That's why most people don't deal with paypal.
It's easy to find a sucker, but yeah. $50 could net you $300 worth of BTC if you're quick.
It's hard on your system because it's generating values to try and brute force a "block". It literally generates hashes and does trial and error until somebody somewhere finds the right value. It has a pretty big factor of luck, but it's generally worth it.
Man I have no idea what that means but: BEEF JERKY for Bitcoin, FRESH Beef Jerky from Beefjerky.com! I think it's the last block's hash being 256 bit is the reason as to why it takes so long. Whoever finds the correct value for the block gets 50 BTC, which is about $1,000. This is generally mined in "pools" which are hundreds of computers all trying to get a block. In pools, the bitcoins are split between all who participated in getting the block.
I don't think that's even possible.
Apparently it's risen to 21Ghash/s now :psyduck:
Why is it telling him he's getting gigahashes? Is he using a render farm?
i7-920 and GTX 295, single PC
Apparently it's risen to 21Ghash/s now :psyduck:
What? [editline]10th June 2011[/editline]
Apparently it's risen to 21Ghash/s now :psyduck: i7-920 and GTX 295, single PC
If he's getting GHashes/s then he should have about 100 shares by now.
Probably just a bug.
Apparently it's risen to 21Ghash/s now :psyduck: i7-920 and GTX 295, single PC
Something is wrong, because three AMD Radeon 6990s only get you 2.1Ghash/s when all three are running.

so no more help? im using my ati rv770 mining. it is slowing down everything and i want to play games. how do i fix it? i have all my video drivers including my opencl thing (90% sure of it) im getting about 80 mhashes. so how do i fix it?
This is confusing. So the bitcoins are generated on the spot and the reason why it's intensive on the system is so there can be "work" to get the coins, even if it's artificial and meaningless and the Bitcoin doesn't immediatly become worthless?
The bitcoins are generated every block. The block is cracked via bruteforcing, the bitcoin's worth is about the same as a green piece of paper. People accept bitcoins as a currency because it's a reasonable system. Just like people accept USD because it is a reasonable system. There's only so much a graphics card can do.
This is interesting, I'm getting about 73.5 Mhashes/s on my desktop with its Radeon HD 4770. I may track down a cheap-ish video card from somewhere and drop it in my Debian server. Would OpenCL be possible if I don't have Xorg installed, though just the driver? I don't really want a window manager or anything totally unnecessary on a headless server.
I'm a total noob so is 14** Khash/s a lot?
No, 14Khash is shit.

Anyone likeing the new [wip] OP? :3

i wonder if i have any extra laptops lying around to do this...
My reward has been at 0.032 for the past 30 minutes, what gives? It jumped up to .032 in 40 minutes a few hours back. [editline]10th June 2011[/editline] Mhash/s has been about 350 too.
The calcs will always be a bit wonky until payout.
What can I expect with mhash at 350 after lets say 12 hours?
y people disagree :C
About a fourth of the OP content is in links or directly copied from the wiki and yet you have the nerve to ask for donations.
What can I expect with mhash at 350 after lets say 12 hours?
I'd say 0.5 BTC.
