how long does it take for a transaction to show up in your wallet? it's been ~30 minutes since I requested my first payout from BTC Guild...
A rig with a 5850 would draw about 300w from the socket when mining. That is including the rest of the idle draw of mobo/cpu and the PSU overhead.
You are forgetting that the GPU isn't the only thing that draws power when a computer is on.
http://www.antec.outervision.com/
Use that. It's meant for figuring out what the wattage would be for buying a PSU, but it still works for general power draw.
Also, is that 170W power draw per hour, or per minute/second?
You really have no idea how this works do you?
Watts is simply a measure of energy over time. It can be converted to a whole slew of different units because one watt is in effect one Joule per second.
So something that draws 170w draws 170 joules of energy every second. You can convert watts into watthours, which is simply the wattage times the timer in hours, so 170WH is a draw of 170 watts(joules per second) over the period of an hour.
So to ask if something rated at 170 watts draws it per hour minute or second is pointless.
kWh = 1/1000W*h
price = kWh * 0.15
should give you something pretty accurate
But it still isn't THAT much of money, right?
But it still isn't THAT much of money, right?
No if you have a decent production rate (200MH/s or more) you stand to make money.
I did the math and assuming $20 per coin and only mining 8 hours per day (while I sleep) I stand to make a net profit of about $150. Even more if I mine more and sell when the market is on an upbound.
what are the odds you'll even earn a coin in that time

That's the block that included the 17000BTC donation that Lulzsec got from some dude.
Guys at what temperature should I start worrying?
Hm.. 0.02 BTC :v:

CPU/GPU/Your cat?
The value of BTC was at 14 on the 8th of june, it shot up soon afterwards because
1. difficulty increases - this naturally boosts the price
2. at the same time it's becoming widespread, lots of buyers in a short period trying to get some quick cash. The price goes above what it should really be worth
Soon after the price hits $30 it starts dropping because
1. those investors trying to make a quick buck sell
2. these things tend to happen at certain prices - 30 was a new high point
3. it was very over valued
4. people investing in some very risky currency probably freak out because it went down a little, selling, causing it to go down more.
If I had to guess, I'd say, with the current difficulty bitcoins should be worth roughly $20.
Oh man I love to be right
I have a feeling the stock dropped because Lulzsec was selling the 17000BTC they got. Probably sold it at a lower price than rest of the market to get rid of it fast, too.

Nice market watching.

Doubt it. They probably would have used the dark pools if they were to sell 17k.

Large amounts are sold on dark pools so it doesn't change the price.

he could've just sold it himself and kept it instead of giving it to some retarded script kiddies

He probably plays the market. The high tier investors right now have shittons of dosh.

Is this many rejected blocks normal? I can maybe squeeze out another 20Mhash/sec if I optimise my settings. I've only just started, so idk if this is standard or what.. :v:

You should have 1-5% max with long polling. Something's wrong..
CPU/GPU/Your cat?
What a redundant question I was talking about my dinosaur. But my GPU would do fine also.

Highly unstable OC, or your driver crashed and you didn't notice - all hashes are invalid after a driver crash are bad.

(you have to restart the miner)

So close to 300 Mhash/s.

Go for a 5830 if you can find one.
oh snap, the value is going down
oh my god SELLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
eh. i should have bought some when it was 10$ though
My MacBook Air pushes 1500 khash/s w00t!
Jokes, as soon as I get back to university i'll be ordering some ATi cards and running my PC as a full dedicated rig, I don't play games anymore (hence the MacBook) so I figure it'll be more use than letting my PC otherwise gather dust, plus I can take advantage of the free electricity supply we get in student accommodation.
For blast income I'll check the viability of getting people 'in' and offering them a slice of my pie for an initial investment to fund equipment although this is not a priority. I'll probably just tell potential interested folks and offer to build and set them up rigs at a profit.
So if I bought BTC on 12th June at 10:00am and then sold them at 20:00- I would of made a nice little profit?
