If there's such a thing as fake or virtual currency, it's the USD which is currently being inflated and deflated at will to screw people out of houses and other property.
Sure as hell doesn't help that banks were giving out unsafe loans like there was no tomorrow.
Stop talking about American currency like you know how it works. The Banks are not to blame, the people are. They took out huge loans knowing they couldn't pay them back.
[editline]19th June 2011[/editline]
And you're fucking point?
Oh look I can use the USD online to buy physical items so its not a valid currency anymore.
Get your head out of your asshole.
You missed my point. There is no physical version of this currency. The USD started as a physical item and moved to digital. This is starting as a digital item and has no plans of becoming anything more than that.
[editline]19th June 2011[/editline]
The amount of name calling in this thread is not needed also. It's pretty rude.

how about you stop being an idiot and derailing the thread so somebody can actually answer why CPU mining works but I can't GPU mine at all.
I thought this thread was for discussion of Bitcoins. That's what we are doing is it not?
if there are people willing to offer services and products for this currency then it is usable and convertable to any currency no matter how much you want to deny it
1. You don't know how the American currency works either. Just because I'm from Finland and you're from USA doesn't automatically make you an expert on the USD.
2. It doesn't matter how a currency started, what matters is how it's right now and how it's going to be in the future.
3. Stop threadshitting
4. RidingKeys, flaming's not cool.

No, you're dismissing it as a currency when it clearly is. You refuse to listen to any sort of reason even when there is multiple people in this thread who are calling you out on it.
how about you stop being a fucking idiot and derailing the thread so somebody can actually answer why CPU mining works but I can't GPU mine at all.
what's your GPU?
A shitty nvidia GTX 240
It probably won't get me a lot of bitcoin but any money is better then none in my eyes.

I am listening. I don't agree with it and now we are having a discussion about it.
If you want to do this, more power to you but its not for me.
If I just automatically said "You guys are right, bitcoins are the future" Then there would be no point in anyone have an opinion.
If it's not for you then why are you in the thread?

you're basically dismissing it as a currency when it has its own value

sorry dude but it's not even worth mining as it would take days to generate the minimum amount most pools pay out at
The only thing I have trouble understanding is how Bitcoins have any value at all. This is kind of a hard question for me to phrase. Like, let's say I'm doing manual labor to dig a ditch and I'm getting payed for it. Alright, in essence I've been given money to dig a hole. However, in Bitcoins what is the equivalent? We're being given money to do what, exactly?
It would be easy to understand if perhaps this was some kind of metagame for a folding@home simulation where out CPU and GPU power was going to physically do something, but here it is literally doing nothing.
so how does the future of this look, and is it really worth looking at as even earning some change?
i understand how it functions

think of a lottery
But if you pay in items, you are using something that has worth or use. This is just as useful as telling me I need to buy special stripper bucks that are worth 5x the American dollar in order to pay the strippers to let me see their tits. Why cant I use regular money? Because we said this money is better.
It's a different type of currency for a different type of use.

it all just comes down to perceived value, like gold or any precious metal
It's a different type of currency for a different type of use.
But is it needed? I suppose would be the next question. We have plenty of currencies already that all work fine online. Why do we need another?
no
it doesnt have to be open
shadaez rarely knows what he's talking about tbh
pretty sure it does at the start, at least mine did, I tried to receive a payment from BTCGuild without it open and it didn't show up until it was running for a while, then it started at 1 conformation and went up. where else did I not know what I was talking about? the only reason I even took over this thread was because the last OP had no idea what they were doing, I wouldn't mind if you took over.
[editline]18th June 2011[/editline]
but once it was received, it kept getting conformations when it was closed, I just don't think you can receive it without the client open, your wallet wouldn't know if the client wasn't open anyways.

like?
All I can think of is Dwolla, LibertyReserve, and Paypal. I don't think any of those are anywhere near anonymous and they are all based on another currency.

I meant like, you can use a credit card online and most banks allow for online purchases so why do you need a online-only currency? Bringing up Paypal and the like are good examples though. Paypal is pretty unneeded and basically forced on the internet but it has become accepted as a standard, although it still uses a base currency that is native to the account holders location.

Anonymity for online transactions is obviously the biggest thing this offers compared to any other currency. Plus there's no middleman, only a tiny transaction fee of .01 (which will likely be reduced soon) which is given to the people who confirm your transactions.
someone should buy my .71BTC via paypal
pleasure doing business with you dude
i'm still ready to buy BTC from you guys with paypal if you ever want to cash out
it all just comes down to perceived value, like gold or any precious metal
But gold is actually used in things like jewelry and electronics
and bitcoins are actually accepted at some online stores too
that and the market is almost entirely speculative, it's running just like the gold market
Whats funny is that I thought nVidia focused on parallel processing...
More like a good architecture for each core.
it all just comes down to perceived value, like gold or any precious metal
Except gold has a actual physical presence and can be used for things.
Ok, connected to BTC Guild. Holy fuck, my computer is so slow right now!!!

Hey, I can make 10$ a month. That's more better than advertising sites. :buddy:
Also my hash speed is 17.3Mhash/s on average. Running on Core 2 Duo E8400 and N9600GT.

Are you 12 or something?
Also you're costing your parents more than you're making on that setup.
