mt.gox database hacked, log into gmail: LOL UR ACCOUNT HAS BEEN COMPROMISED, CHANGE UR PASSWORD
good show encrypting passwords.
fucking this, had to change my gmail password
dickheads
also Bitclockers is almost up to 2mil shares i'm gonna shoot myself
Thing is, they never got into my gmail account and it's because I used a different password.
I use 2-step (phone) verification for both Gmail and Paypal, and they would send me a notification by text message if anyone tried to log in, with the verification code. I'm just worrying slightly about people googling the username I used and logging me into random forums and stuff, not that I can particularly remember signing up anywhere of massive importance using the mtgox password I used.
Apparently all that they hacked was the hashes for the accounts.
But I don't trust that, yet.
[editline]20th June 2011[/editline]
Because if the password is stored just as a salted hash, good fucking luck.
It'll take around fucking forever to crack it, even with a massive GPU farm.
Varies with length of password, but mine was nice and long.

Not if they got the salt as well.

Finally got my first bitcoin! :neckbeard:
users commenting on the mtgox support post are flipping shit, like they're almost retarded
there's everything from tradehill doing it, to the government doing it trying to shut them down, etc, and they're all trying to make a quick buck by spamming tradehill referral codes. pathetic.
Buying bitcoins @ $0.50, any takers? :P
Is it possible to get bitcoins from transactions of your computer is off?
all of your bitcoins is belong to me

On a more serious note, any good exchanges that will accept 0.01 BTC?
Does anyone else have to delete a file in their bitcoin appdata folder each time you restart your computer to get it to launch?
Is logging into Mt Gox still disabled?
[editline]19th June 2011[/editline]
I didn't use my real email address, is this going to be a problem?
edit: wait nevermind, and i set up 2-step verification on my email so I'm good now

You know the people that told you to shutdown the computer properly or problems could occur? They were right.

Mine was a 15 digit alphanumeric, so I'm not worried. It's also just a random password I made up for bitcoin related stuff. So they won't be able to access anything else even if they do happen to crack it.

My computer is a piece of crap with overheating issues, It shuts its self off all the time.
My account on slush's pool has apparently been compromised. Someone changed the threshold to .1 and the receiving address.
Oh well, it was only like .5 btc, kinda demotivating though.

Close the bitcoin client gracefully whenever you're not using it
It boggles me how they got in though, I used a random password generator for my password, and I never ever ever ever ever tell anyone my password. (Seriously, I'm anal about my passwords)

Wow automerge
Anyone have an invite to the bitcoin market?
[editline]20th June 2011[/editline]

i could say "gold isn't worth anything it's just a metal"
but i'd be wrong because it actually has value
just like BTC
Gold has its value because it can be used in many industries, and people like the way it looks. Bitcoins can not be used for anything unless you can print them out and even then you could only use them for say, toilet paper.

you could compare the dollar bill to bitcoins just the same in that example, saying they're just pieces of paper. it's about the perceived value and speculation

stop please you're just repeating yourself
The Dollar has gold backing it up, bitcoins have nothing.
I should have a full bitcoin soon, which I'll put on a Newegg.ca gift card and put it toward a new CPU cooler. My E8400 occasionally gets past 70 degrees, which is a bit worrying.

But gold is worthless too according to this thread!
But gold is worthless too according to this thread!
i'm pretty sure no one said that gold was worthless
what we're implying is that gold is a commodity, and can be run entirely on speculation
yes gold has its physical uses in wiring and jewelry, but the comparison is being made because of its speculative nature
This guy is selling a 10 ounce silver bar with free shipping for only one bitcoin. http://forbitcoin.com/Bitcoin-Trade/596/send-you-a-10oz-silver-bar-for-25-BTC-%28FREE-SHIPPING!%29
While I was away my Pool auto payed out but my Bitcoin client was not open.
I opened it to see if I had received my payment and I don't have the funds from it.
Do I just need to wait or am I not going to receive my payout?
