I'm finally starting this just hooked up my 5770 and am getting about 195-ish MHashes. Any tips to help get the best performance would be nice!
Read what people put there for the HD5770, try some of the flags. Or overclock.
are you nuts i get steady payout from HALF of 300mhash
[editline]25th August 2011[/editline]
listen i'll give it straight: anything over 100Mhash should be FINE for mining. it takes me MAYBE 2-3 days to get 0.1BTC, and it takes 0.96BTC for a $10 Amazon gift card. within 2 weeks i've got $10, it's totally worth it.
I was speaking more from the hassle point of view, having a computer heating up the room and making noise and the fact it means you can't play games etc for only $10 every 2 weeks. Also in answer to Tezzanator remember not all of us pay for electricity.
Bitcoin stopped being worth it for me a while ago. I can still make a profit even if I payed for electricity but as Callius said, waking up/coming home to a 30+ degree room isn't a lot of fun for $5-$10 a week

Do you mean 30C or 30F, 30F is fucking cold.

Since FlagDog says he's from Sweden it's Celsius

Use common sense..? Why would he say 30+ if he was talking in Farenheit?
Decided to make another miner, going to cost around £290~ with two HD6770s as they're currently the best MHash per GBP.

Post the rest of the specs.

I will once I get them all, I'm cheating a little bit though, running Linuxcoin (BTC focused linux distro) off of a USB drive to save having to buy a hard drive, buying a cheap (but still corsair so not a fire hazard) power supply which will be swapped with my old 600W I have in a server currently and I'm not buying a case as I have an old one I'm modding for my needs.
I'm mostly doing it for fun, I like build projects but I estimate that if I left the rig on it's own it would pay back for itself over 10 months ish, of course that's assuming difficulty and price remained constant or have a locked relationship. However with all my rigs I aim to break even in 2 months, which is a much less risky prediction.
I was thinking about getting into Bitcoin mining and I read this in the OP:
To start mining, the first thing you want to do is join a join a mining pool, I highly suggest choosing one of the pools with a smaller market share, bigger ones can be bad for the security of BTC.
How can you tell how much market share a pool has? Could someone recommend me a pool?
How can you tell how much market share a pool has? Could someone recommend me a pool?
Under "Hashrate distribution" shows rough market share.
https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Comparison_of_mining_pools
Look here for a list of available pools and what each one offers, I'm not going to explain which one you'd want because it down to personal preference and because I think if we all had to do it by ourselves it can't hurt if you do too :)
£3.29 per bitcoin. Good time to buy? Trying to find some market graphs but I can't seem to find any.
Holy the coins are low.
Reckon the price will go back up again?
I hope so, still have coins that I bought at ~£8 per coin :(
Damn i want a bitcoin so i can start making more bitcoins out of it on tradehill :(

Not really, the market won't really go up again. Only reason why it was above $20 a coin a couple of months ago was because bitcoin hit all the news outlets over the value it has in trading illegal goods lol
Ever since the Silk Road website (which is where you could trade illegal goods for BTC) got a huge bad rap from "legit" bitcoiners and was eventually shut down to my knowledge, the value has dropped with zero recovery.
There is literally nothing keeping the currency afloat these days except old investors still trying to hold out. More and more people are starting to bail though, which is why the price continues to drop even more and more.
Hardly any buyers too, because of this.
Bitcoincharts.com is down -_-
No it aint.
6.19
It's going a little bit up.
Its quite interesting that bitcoins need another currency to stay afloat.
Reckon the price will go back up again?
Maybe, maybe not. Personally I wouldn't directly invest money in this, too risky. That said I do mine so I do have a sort of investment in it.

Why would anyone want to use an internet currency unless they can convert it into a universally accepted one. It'd only be able to self float if it was used to buy food/pay bills, which I really doubt will ever happen.

Silk road isn't shut down. It's only valued at what people think it's worth, in this respect we're seeing it drop back to the levels it was at before the massive media hype. Inaddition to this, the outing of Bruce Wagner as a fraud artist and possible pedophile, as well as a few other events such as MTgox having their french bank account frozen (they're fighting it in the courts atm) and the official bitcoin forums being turned into Cosbycoins by a exploit don't help the market value.
So is anyone else using this anymore now that it is just slightly hovering over 2 dollars a coin now? It crashed hard and now I dont feel so bad on losing my wallet awhile ago.
What can I do with the coins?
Buy stuff online. It's not that hard to go to bitcoin.org and look for yourself.
What can I do with the coins?
Nothing as they are worthless now.
Wow, awhile ago when they were like 15 dollars and they crashed down to ten, I held on to my bitcoins in the hopes that it might recover. Fuck. Is there any chance in hell that it might recover?
It's been going up for the past two days.
Geesh the worth just crashed. before it was like 15-25 dollars a coin. now they are worthless.
Geesh the worth just crashed. before it was like 15-25 dollars a coin. now they are worthless.
It crashed slowly over a very long time.
It's been going up for the past two days.
Hmm if I had bought 500btc when it was at $2 and sold it now I would have made ~$500
Wait can you make REAL money off of this?
wow, this is still alive?
