My friend is saying I should get into the coins. What do you guys think? He said to post pc specs too so: 2600k GTX570 16gb 1600 Crucial m4/Spinpoint F3
Gonna see what kind of performance I'll get on a quad sli 590. Though I'm not really going to take Bitcoin seriously, but might as well have some fun.
It will be terrible. You could probably get more from a 5830/5850. I have 0.93 bitcoins, Does anybody want to buy them off me for $4.50? The current Mt Gox price is $4.90 per a bitcoin. Through PayPal, this is.

Although I cheated a bit as I had a few parts lying around before I started so it was mostly just PSUs & Graphics cards I had to buy, it was also ages ago like last summer I think.
Need a bitcoin or two. Should I go for Mt. Gox or another one? Also, GBP.
Need a bitcoin or two. Should I go for Mt. Gox or another one? Also, GBP.
MtGox.
Intersango has better rates iirc.
240 Mhash/s.. Am I doing this right? [editline]Edited:[/editline] Hmm seems like its not that much, I guess I could try overclocking my GPU a bit. :f
In case anyone want to make bitcoins easier try http://coinworker.com it's faster and more cost efficient. Also if you want to buy steam games with bitcoins or giftcards use http://steamcoin.net/ and https://www.giftcoin.net/. I have tried them both and they work and they are run by the same person.

Oops I forgot about that. There isn't such thing as referral links as far as I know so if you want you try using a spare account I have and just put your address in so you get bitcoins that you work for. Just give me a pm if you want the password and username.
I'm getting 370Mhash/s with a 5870. It's going to take a long time to get much at this rate though. I've had it running for half the day now, and I've only made 0.05BTC.
How the fuck? Im running a 6870 and I can only get 200Mhash/s.
I looked at this: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining_hardware_comparison#Graphics_cards If you scroll down a bit, you'll find extra flags specifically for your graphics card. It helped performance a lot for me. I went from 260Mhash/s to 370Mhash/s just by playing around with the extra flags.
How the fuck? Im running a 6870 and I can only get 200Mhash/s.
I think the 5870 is more powerful than a 6870 anyway, but take a look at the flags..
I got 350 Mhash/s now with HD6950. :o
I think the 5870 is more powerful than a 6870 anyway, but take a look at the flags..
Only slightly. He could probably get like 300Mhash/s with the correct flags.

Also keep in mind your card may not be stable 24/7 if you push it too far, although that's more about overclocking than flags. Only been mining for like 3 months and using Deepbit. Anyone know of a better pool? Mining with a Radeon 5970.

I haven't really looked into where the pay is best, but I figure I should. As for the flags and miner, I'm running the Phoenix miner with phatk kernel. My flags are:
-k phatk VECTORS BFI_INT AGGRESSION=10 WORKSIZE=128
I've got no overclocks on or anything.

Use Phatk2 or Poclbm
Use Phatk2 or Poclbm
I actually get slightly more performance with Phatk than i do with Phatk2. Poclbm is pretty close, but still slightly slower.
Sorry to bring up Coinworker again but if anyone has a spare account that I could use, I would really appreciate it.

Thinking of investing a moderately large sum of money in bitcoins, but the complex procedure to add funds at MtGox puts me off. Anyone know of a nice, simple alternative to MtGox? Edit After looking into it, international wire seem to be the only choice. Oh well, any place where you can follow the price of bitcoin closely?
is this worth running on a spare pc 24/7 just to make a few steam games on the side, cause I have a few laptops I could easily dedicate to that.
No. laptop GPUs won't get you much at all and you'd be lucky to get a single steam game after running it for a year. It's only really worthwhile with the HD5XXX series and above for AMD or FPGAs
You should really only bother on 5xxxx cards. The 6xxx ones mine slower and (currently) cost more.
240 Mhash/s on a 5770 Is it worth it to bitcoin if I use my computer 24/7
