• I'm seriously thinking about going back from Windows 7 to XP

I'll try reformatting the harddrive and see if that does the trick. ...as soon as I find the product key for Windows 7.
XP has Microsoft Sam :v:
XP has Microsoft Sam :v:
Commodore 64 had Sam before Microsoft stole it. :ghost:
Crappy laptop is crappy.
hurr mixture of that "computer lingo" and "netspeak" will make me cool in facepunch!" :downsbravo:
I'm continuously going back and forth between XP and 7 myself. I definitely get better performance with XP, and I'm more familiar with the ins and outs of it, and I can nLite it to my liking. 7 is a much classier OS, and relatively speaking it's more stable than XP (though I rarely have problems with XP because I don't bloat the shit out of it). However I still have trouble finding my way around some of the tweaks and it has some shortcomings in regards to recording audio. To those saying his computer isn't good enough, that's the most retarded thing I've ever heard. An OS shouldn't require a beast rig to run properly.
Everything runs better since I upgraded. Besides, I installed fresh on a brand new hard drive, going back is no problem if I run into any issues with 7.
No way. 7 uses less memory than XP. I think that this must be a different problem.
What have you been smoking? No it does not.
I went back to XP after the Windows 7 beta ran out, and I'm hating every second of it. Also hating the fact that I'm gonna have to buy Win7 at some point if I upgrade anything.
Why go back when you'll have to keep up with times eventually? don't be dumb. [editline]03:53PM[/editline]
I upgraded from Windows Vista to 7. Ever since then, I've been getting lower framerates in every game that I played. (Sims 3, Mass effect 2, Oblivion) I've done every thing that I could. I've updated all of my drivers, I've tried to downgrade my drivers, but that didn't work. I've tried to set higher priority for the game's processes so that they would use more memory. Nothing worked. I've searched all over the internet for a solution, asked in many forums. I could find nothing that could help me. Now I'm considering going back to XP. XP has never given me any problems, not as much as Vista or 7 did. As far as I know, XP consumes less system resources. The only thing that's stopping me is that fact that I like some of the features that Windows 7 has.
first off, don't Upgrade... format and install win 7. that's what will work.
No way. 7 uses less memory than XP. I think that this must be a different problem.
Really it does? Sweet.
I went back, I just prefer XP 'S good [editline]02:07PM[/editline] http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/get/system-requirements.aspx http://home.comcast.net/~SupportCD/XPRequirements.html Uhhh?

Okay, this Windows XP vs. Windows 7 elitism bullshit has to stop. I use Windows XP without a problem, if he wants to use Windows XP instead of 7, let him. Windows XP does take less resources to run idle then Windows 7 does. In games, Windows XP still takes less resources then Windows 7 - in games such as Fallout 3, World of Warcraft, Crysis, and more. Windows 7 is a new 'bells and whistles' OS that isn't as tired and true as Windows XP is.
If you didn't do a clean install on vista, but instead used upgrade or whatever, then it's slow as hell. Always do a clean install and reformat when changing os. That's the same when going from XP to vista with the upgrade feature.
Honestly even though I ranted on the first page, I really miss the days of the early 2000's when you booted up XP and had MSN pop up and oh god I miss it so much
Well I'm glad this thread was created, shows the majority of people know 7 is better than XP.
linux
if you play games... no fucking way you will do that. if not, respect... linux is a quite fine alternative for anything not related to gaming. should work perfect for everyday usage, hell, evel work.

I'll try reformatting first.
no it's not that's stupid, just format and reinstall Windows 7, it will fix everything. [editline]01:19PM[/editline] or you can enjoy a bugged old operating system incapable of DX10 or 11.

Trust us it's no elitism we're trying to help you from messing up, but if you want go ahead.
Really it does? Sweet.
No!
No!
I'm sure it was sarcasm. Windows XP is close to ten years old, that should be reason enough not to install it. Don't give me that "tried and true" crap everyone knows it is way more venerable then any modern operating system. Don't waste your time being left in the dark ages, all that's wrong here is he upgraded from Vista I'm not quite certain how that process works but I do know that it is just so the illiterate can upgrade without bugging the fuck out of technical support. The process wasn't meant for users with more "hardcore" demands from their computer. The process was meant for people to be able to snap their internet explorer facebook to the left and their MySpace to the right.
With included system flaws that make you vunerable to attacks. Trust us it's no elitism we're trying to help you from messing up, but if you want go ahead.
Included system flaws? Like what? Nobody is going to try and break into a legacy OS, because it's usually just schools, small corporations, and little buisnesses with no valuable information. I'd say you're pretty secure.
I'm sure it was sarcasm.
After seeing his other posts around, I highly doubt it.
rated dumb for being dumb. Seriously don't.
Vista can't do anything other than crash constantly and take up insane amounts of RAM for no reason. It's shit.
I use vista because it's what's on my PC and I'm poor, and I don't remember the last time it crashed. Yeah, it's not a great OS and 7 is probably a fair bit better, but it definitely isn't as bad as you seem to think it is; it's perfectly usable and I definitely prefer it to XP.
