What's so bad about it? I'm quite interested.
You have no L3 cache.
Damn, would it be possible to upgrade my CPU, and if so then what would be a good one for around the £150 mark?
What's so bad about it? I'm quite interested.

The AMD Phenom II X4 N950 Quad Core is a laptop CPU clocked at 2.1 GHz. Due to a missing Turbo and no level 3 cache, the performance of the N950 should be only on par with a Core 2 Quad Q9000. Compared to desktop CPUs, the Phenom II laptop CPUs are similar to the desktop Athlon II processors because of the missing level 3 cache. Therefore, the N950 is similar to a low clocked Athlon II X4 CPU produced in 45nm SOI. I'm thinking of upgrading to one of these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819111025 I'll just have to find out if it will fit/work. [editline]30th October 2011[/editline] Right, My socket type is S1, would something like this for example work: http://products.amd.com/en-us/NotebookCPUDetail.aspx?id=661&f1=&f2=&f3=&f4=&f5=&f6=&f7=&f8=&f9=

Okay, is the L3 cach going to be neccessary to play games in the future? Such as Skyrim, etc.
Okay, is the L3 cach going to be neccessary to play games in the future? Such as Skyrim, etc.
From what I understand it greatly aids in accessing memory from multiple cores. So probably yes, that or a new cpu that doesn't need one. Modern games are increasingly multi-threaded. Either way laptop CPUs are never going to be particularly great or upgradable as a general rule.
Don't dream of upgrading a laptop's cpu or graphic card. You can only add more ram or another hard disk. That's it. That's one of the reasons laptops are not recommended as gaming platforms.
1gb of vram
Vram? Virtual ram? No wonder it runs like shit.
Vram? Virtual ram? No wonder it runs like shit.
Video RAM graphics cards
Video ram probably.
Right.... I'm retarded :v:
If you guys are right in saying that it's my CPU thats letting it down, then how come is it that most of the time its not using more than 60%?
If you guys are right in saying that it's my CPU thats letting it down, then how come is it that most of the time its not using more than 60%?
Don't compare "most of the time" with "running a heavily CPU dependent application". Heck, "most of the time" even a pentium II will be not used more than 60%
I said most of the time when I actually meant never, I was originaly going to put that most of the time it never passes 50%
Save your cash, gather about 600 GPB/700 euro, consult Facepunch, then build yourself a kick-ass computer. Don't go for laptops unless it's for school work or something. In that case, don't game on the laptop.
I said most of the time when I actually meant never, I was originaly going to put that most of the time it never passes 50%
because your GPU is really subpar as well I'd say that the GPU is the limiting factor here if the n950 does indeed perform like an Athlon II as someone said earlier.
gta4 runs like shit on my shit pc shocking
gta4 runs like shit on my shit pc shocking
Dick.
Just beef up your laptop.
GTA is simply a game that was built for processors that had a lot of power, but doesn't give a toss about your cores. If you have a 3ghz or above processor you're golden, anything below that and things start turning to shit. Yay for programmers that don't know what the fuck they're doing.
It's been optimizes to a level that is still really bad. Main issue I see is that the performance is not consistent with the level of power a computer might have,
a tri-core phenom and a 5770 can play bf3 on ultra at a better framerate than gta4 on high
It definitely could be optimized better. I run it at 30-60FPS mostly, with the occasional slowdown down to ~20FPS, but I also have a pretty beefy computer (2500k, GTX460). With that being said, when I get those slowdowns I mentioned, I've noticed that it's not my computer's fault. At least neither the GPU or CPU usage is 100% or anything near that. So basically the bottleneck is the game itself. :v:. Let's hope that GTA five get's a good port.
I ran GTA4 at 10FPS (ALL at MIN) on my game PC, but then I got the latest patches and run it fine 50+FPS (all max) (2600k, 570GTX) It took them 5 patches to get their shit working fine on PC. Terrible.
Let's hope that GTA five get's a good port.
Lets hope the consoles get a GTA port from PC :(
Ah right, looks like they did that patch specifically for your hardware, because mine doesn't change, the latest patch is 1.0.07 right?

Rockstar recommends: Intel Core 2 Quad 2.4GHz, AMD Phenom X3 2.1GHz. I have a 2.6 Dual Core AMD :v: You also gotta remember that a mobile Quad Core isn't going to be the same as a desktop Quad Core, no matter what anyone says; it's completely different technology going on.
runs fine on my i7-990x 24gb ram crossfire 6990's, what is wrong with you?
a tri-core phenom and a 5770 can play bf3 on ultra at a better framerate than gta4 on high
You're talking about my system as if it's bad I know
Then you're a fucking wizard because that's almost impossible.
Mine runs fine on a quad 2.3GHz Phenom with 4Gb RAM and an old 8800GTS. Only problem is the textures load slowly due to a lack of vram
