I've used my 80 gig HDD for years, have all my Steam games on here, all my music, pictures, everything and I'm only using about 40 gigs (half). People give me shit for this and then they realize how computer illiterate they are when I begin to speak... *God-like pose*
Yeah, I suppose that's great when you only have 3 games. Some people have many games. Then torrents of (free)games, those usually have a .iso and then it takes 2x the size when you install them. Some people like to be able to reinstall games, and not delete .isos. I personally like to keep EVERYTHING I have ever downloaded. This is immensely useful, having one giant folder full of random .rars of source code, little games, etc. I have this going all the way back to 2001. Takes ~150 gigs. Then there's steam. Due to having HL2+ep1&2, CSS, Gmod(Lots of addons), TF2, Portal, etc, my steam folder is ~50 gigs. So that's 200gb. On my 300gb harddrive. The rest is just miscellaneous installations and games scattered about. I have 1gb left free, and everything that can be cleaned out is. 80 gigs? That'd be like living in a small flat with an extended family for me.

I bought my last computer with 80GB hard drive thinking "Oh I'll buy a bigger one in a years time" then proceeded to buy a 250Gb hard drive because I had the 80Gb at 79.5Gb after a week! I'm now on a PC with 990GB hard drive, a 640Gb and the old 250Gb I've had it two weeks and already the 640 is down to 500Gb left. Weird thing is I don't download many videos at all, apart from the occasional porn one. To above post: My steam folder :v:
Seriously. Especially with kids at my school unless they know their shit. Like if I tell someone "Hey I got a new computer", they try to act all smart and say "How much hard drive space does it have? :c00l:". I then say 300 gigs is all I need, and they go "HAHA, I have 500 gigs!, you got ripped off!" I can't stand this. I only need 300 gigs. Then I ask them about other hardware, like the video card, and they just go "" and I say, I have a 3870x2, and then they go ":confused:" and just walk away, thinking to them selves that I'm an idiot for buying this computer because it doesn't have as much hard drive space. Why this bothers me: 1. They think I'm an idiot for spending more and not getting as much hard drive space as their 3 year old machine 2. They go around telling people that I'm a computer illiterate moron (EG. "Dude, this guy thinks he got a good computer, but he only got 300 gigs HAHAH!" "REALLY?!" "YEAH" "HAHHA WHAT A MORON")
Pffff. I have just 200 GB. But the good part is that i don't waste 5 days to defragment. :v: And the others: 1.81 GHZ ; 2.25 GB RAM ; Gforce 6600 ; AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor. And I don't think I need more.
The worst one. "What type of computer do you own?" "I don't know. I just bought it."
"My laptop has more gigahurtz so it's better than yours lol" Have fun with your Intel X3100.
It's funny when my Arts teacher tries to teach us something like drawing a circle and he stuffs around for literally just over 20 minutes and everyone just fucks around on the net. Then he made me do all the examples :(. Then he tells us to turn our hard drives (the computers) off.

My old one (Just bought a new computer) had about 60 GB. I realized I had a problem when I got my 80 GB iPod. Edit: On topic, yes some people are retarded about computers
I have 15gb free on my 80gb laptop harddrive, but I only have half my steam games installed.

Also I doubt anyone I know would manage to follow these instructions I got from Acer's tech support to get my keyboard on my laptop to work properly: 1. Press Alt+F2 to get up "Run program" 2. Write terminal and press enter 3. In the terminal window write: echo "setxkbmap fi" >> .bash_profile and press enter 4. Restart the computer
My dad doesn't really know much about computers, just how to use them, and i had a awkward conversation on the phone asking him for money to help me build a new computer and he actually didn't make a complete fool of himself. All he did was ask how much it would be for everything and i told him. Then he asked how much it would help if he sent 300 or 400 dollars and i told him quite a bit and that was that.
I can barely live off of 500GB. :(
Quoted due to truth.
I was at some old retirement home place and there where two old people outside and they didn't even know what the inside of a PC looked like... :/
You can put in 500 GB, and then you can have a slot in it, where you can get the memory out, and put another 500 GB memory in. Example: you want to play Rick Roll adventure, you insert the 'game' memory. If you want to do things for work, then you put in the 'work' memory Not geeky, I had it when I bought the PC. EDIT: And it's not expensive, you can get a Kingston 500 GB for just 80 bucks.
Onetime Kid: Hey Pepin, what kind of computer do you have? Me: Well, I've got an E6550 overclocked to 3 Ghtz- Kid: Hold on a second. You can't overclock a CPU. Me: Yes you can... Kid: No you can't, it wouldn't make any sense. Me: Well then how is my CPU overclocked? Kid: You're making stuff up. Then he got a bunch of his friends to tell me that overclocking the CPU is impossible. They told me that I probably overclocked the GPU instead...
I hate people that get Ghz and GB confused. I can easily live off of 150, maybe less. Who honestly needs 500 GB?
Also Cocks. ( INSTABANNED Used the word also cocks )
I just hate when people complain about computer illiterate people. They say oh this guy says his computer is better I tried to explain but he was dumb so I left. If you were nice and explained it without getting mad and in their face I am sure you could have persuaded their minds easily. I have talked to several people who were out of their place but it wasn't there fault they just didn't know. I explained to them how I understood it to work and they started to learn rather then keep their own mindset like many of you kids are doing. (Sorry I generalized you as kids, but I am sure anyone will agree with me that someone complaining about this stuff and saying they just walked away or called them stupid for not knowing what a kB was, would fall into the kid category 99 times out of 80.
Y baseball players make about 250k more than that everyyear in their peak of their career (And if they are that good). And don't mention american football players. Please, I rather come back with tumors instead of being brain-dead due to concussions.
This is kind of just a random not very common situation I am about to state, but Peyton Manning of the Indianapolis Colts his contract was I believe 99 million dollars. $99,000,000 Just to put it in number form. Also he rarely gets hit so he won't be brain-dead. He will have made a lot more money than you, even if you had that $750,000 up until retirement. Alright done with my serious post. When talking about newer computers most everything is now measured in Giga something or other. Well with this friend nothing ever came up that wasn't Giga so he just assumed everything was like that. So we now have "Kiga bytes" etc. Usually when he says like "This file is 300 kigabytes", I just say "Yea 300 KILOBYTES" Or something of that nature. I just thought it was kind of funny when I first heard him say kigabyte 4 or 5 times throughout a sentence.

I was the one being patient with them explaining it to them. they were the ignorant ones not listening to me They left, not me And on top of that they run around the whole place saying I have no idea how to use a computer.
My class IT Representive doesn't know what is regedit, how to insert new ram, connect the laptop to a projector and he types 5x slower than me. At least he doesn't brag about it. I had a guy in my school bus calling everyone 'Maple Noobs' because he plays Maple and owns monsters, and I play harder games and own players. Whats up with the sudden amount of people popping up and bragging about their shitty knowledge of computers?
I need 500Gb of hard drive space. It's got a windows and a linux partition, so Each needs a fair bit of space. "what's a graphics card?" is another good one. Back in my school, I had to access the Windows CMD because some shortcut was not working, and I was so lazy I didn't want to move my hand to the mouse and search it manually. Every-fucking-body was looking at me saying "SHIT HE'S A HACKER HE'S GONNA BREAK THE COMPUTERS". Now everybody looks at me suspiciously everytime I put my hands on one of the school's computers. When I was on a part-time Tech support job, I got this call from a VERY dumb bitch. "Yah, my comPEWtah is not working" "Sorry, I need more information, what do you mean by it's not working?" "I don't know! It's not working!" "Erm, what does it say on the screen?" "What's duh screen?" "The TV-like thingie on the PC" "Oh yes! the comPEWtah! I don't know what's on it." "..." "So, can you help me?" "No, ma'am, I can't without information" "GOSH! YOU GUYS SUCK AT FIXING COMPEWTAHS!" Edit: Oh, shit, sorry for the bump.
I am glad that i do not get too many people like that, but the once in a while is not a bad thing just for kicks.
I'm computer illiterate. :(
I once had a CD shatter while in the drive. Some shards escaped out the front and cut my leg.
You call that a Steam folder?
How do I get that sleek black border? I'm stuck with this lame Aero glass design.
My mom is computer illiterate. On her last laptop one of it's RAM sticks was fried. She asked how much RAM she had had before. I answered with 2 gigs. She says: I thought I had 400!
Protip: disable system restore
Protip: disable system restore
Why? :O One time my friend let me sneak in at his job at Dell support (yes flame Dell) There was this old lady complaining about her computer being slow, and I told her the system32 folder was a virus and to delete it. My friend asked why an old lady is calling 50 times a day.

There's some people I helped set up a computer for the other day that have been using computers for about 10 years and Windows XP for at least 5 years. The new computer didn't have Word on it and they needed to open a .doc file, so I walked them through downloading and installing Open Office. Quotes from the phone conversation: "All right, open a web browser," "I don't know what that is." "Ok the installer should be on the desktop, do you see file with the blue logo with the birds on it?" "...what's the desktop?" "You see the list of windows in the taskbar to the right of the start menu? Check for one that says "Download complete". "I see Internet Explorer, Windows Media Player, E-mail, All programs..." (listing items in the start menu) I don't understand how they managed to use Windows all this time. Oh yeah, when we finally got to opening the damn installer it said the file was corrupted. :argh:
