Hello Mrs Crabapple
sad thing is, nowadays I have two friends who actually know stuff but can't game due to both having Linux and being tight fucks when it comes to money.
do they know about http://www.winehq.org/ ??
"I have 8 gigs of RAM"
"Pfft, that's nothing, I have 75"
"That's HD"
"No, it's ram!"
:downs:
A friend Of once asked me "What's better, Nvidia, or DirectX?"
I till him that they are two different things, Nvidia makes hardware and DirectX makes software for starters.
"So which one is better?"
"You can't compare them, they're two different things. That's like comparing a fridge to a phone."
The next day he talks to me again.
"Guess what? I just DOWNLOADED this awesome new Nvidia CARD, and now I can play Runescape on high settings!" (That is what he said, word for word.) As it turned out, he downloaded a Nvidia driver, thinking it was a GPU.
I don't see why you guys get so pissed off.
I just play along with their stories.
"I just got a 500 gb HD! I bet my computer is so much better than you!"
"That's great man! You should show me some time."
We both win in the end.
My friends, they think counter strike sucks because it costs money.
Their argument is, "what if you try it and you don't like it that's 20 dollars wasted then"
so they play soldier front then.
I should tell them about physics.
Counter-strike DOES suck. They just hate it for the wrong reasons.

BLASPHEMY! :monocle:
I hate why can't you just hack his pc I thought you were good with computers
FYCKING RAGE
"I'm buying a one terrabyte drive. Now my computer won't be slow when it loads!"
"if your computer is slow it's going to be slow regardless os storage"
"No, if I have all that space then it don't need to store all of it in ram, and I only have 256 of it. so ifi get one terrabyte, it'll go faster because it doesn't have to work with the little bit I have!"
he then asked me why he couldn't get the hard drive to work.
his computer didn't have any SATA support.
I hate it when people say
Oh you're computer savvy
savvy is the shittiest word ever

I always wondered why people got confused with ram and hard drive space. Even stores that should be plenty knowledgeable seem to... ok whatever just visit the link.

You would think someone somewhere would proof read it.
Unless the proof readers are just as bad. I thought maybe someone would contact them but... who goes to PC World lol.

Friend: "So. My computer has a virus..."
(He naturally comes up to me to help)
Me: Do you have any anti-virus software installed?
Friend: "I think so."
Me: "What kind is it?"
Friend: "Norton AVG Free"
Me: "..."
Friend: "What?"
Me: "That doesn't exist. AVG and Norton are two separate programs designed by separate people."
Friend: "Oh..."
Me: *Sigh*
Friend: "So how can I get rid of it?"
Me: "Just run a scan. See if it picks up anything."
Friend: "But, if it picks something up, won't that be bad!?"
:ghost:
my friend is always saying "oh wow you got a 2003 haha lol that sucks my 2008 is better lol" and he gets this from looking at the case. the OUTSIDE.
some people need to be locked up away from PCs...it's a fact :eng101:
I fucking love this thread.
You're not the only one.

The funny thing is when they buy a computer with a huge hard drive, then you go over and see that they have only used 20-70 GB.

Images of iPod commercials using Jack Sparrow come to mind...

I'm purchasing a 500gb, My steam folder is around 1-20gb and I map, so my unused BSP's and VMF's might take up 5 gigs, so I will use a tiny bit, but that doesn't mean I am stupid :P
Over time I will get new games, takes up more space.
Also, I have music, so that might be a few gigs.
If everybody was like most of us here at face punch IT guys would be out of a job
Found this one on "rinkworks.com"
* Customer: "I just went out and bought the newest unit they have out and having trouble hooking up to the Internet!"
* Tech Support: "What type of machine are you running?"
* Customer: "A Nintendo 64!"
* Tech Support: "Sorry, but you can't hook that up to the Internet. You need a computer with a modem first."
* Customer: "Well, can't I just buy a modem thing and stuff it inside somewhere?"
"I was helping my cousin install a game. He wanted the game to "stay on the disk," so it wouldn't keep the game on the computer. So he said we should uncheck the "Put an Icon on the Desktop" option, and then we wouldn't have to uninstall it later."
I once did something similar, but quickly figured it out.
So, I've been looking for a TV. Just something nice to sit in my room, for consoles and just general free view watching. Came across this set:
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/143849
Little too expensive but I decided to read the reviews anyway, where I find this, was a long review, cut out the painful bits:
As a monitor this set excels, very crisp clear images, handles COD4 just as well as my iiyama Pro CRT I keep on the desk. To be honest of the two other LCD's I have (Daewoo DSL 1703 & Samsung 2032MW) this is the first I would genuinely considering removing the iiyama from the desk for.
Would be tempted to say it handles office applications and the internet far better than the high end CRT.

Seriously.
Especially with kids at my school unless they know their shit.
Like if I tell someone "Hey I got a new computer", they try to act all smart and say "How much hard drive space does it have? :c00l:".
I then say 300 gigs is all I need, and they go "HAHA, I have 500 gigs!, you got ripped off!"
I can't stand this.
I only need 300 gigs.
Then I ask them about other hardware, like the video card, and they just go "" and I say, I have a 3870x2, and then they go ":confused:" and just walk away, thinking to them selves that I'm an idiot for buying this computer because it doesn't have as much hard drive space.
Why this bothers me:
1. They think I'm an idiot for spending more and not getting as much hard drive space as their 3 year old machine
2. They go around telling people that I'm a computer illiterate moron (EG. "Dude, this guy thinks he got a good computer, but he only got 300 gigs HAHAH!" "REALLY?!" "YEAH" "HAHHA WHAT A MORON")
And people who think they know every thing about their computer because it goes slow. They blame it all on the internet but it's the crap on their computer that takes up ram. Fucking morons can suck a clit.
It takes a lot of skill to explain something as complex as a computer to someone who is not particularly technology literate (most people.) That's why teaching people and actually being a good teacher is so difficult.
