I actually was spreading word around school today that I was selling my computer... Me: Anyone interested in buying a computer? *Draws a few peoples' attention* Other Student: How much? Me: $1,500 *GROUP SHOCK* Them: WHAT THE FUUUUU? IS IT LIKE AN ALIEN COMPUTER OR SOMETHING?
Uh $1,500 is way too much for a used computer.
Uh $1,500 is way too much for a used computer.
Errr. No. I'm pretty sure Fox has a pretty good gaming rig.

I'm stuck on a pre-built DELL D:
Holy mother of god, they make 1KW PSU's now? Where have I been?
In the land of the computer illiterate!
Holy mother of god, they make 1KW PSU's now? Where have I been?
Quite a while back by the sounds of it, they've been out for quite a while. Think there might even be some 1500W models as well, I know there's 1200W for definite.

Okay, even the "experts" are now illiterate. My PC monitor has been fucking up lately, and I couldn't be asked to find a program to fix it as it was under warranty still. So I ring up the PC World Tech Guys and say "My monitor is a bit broken I think, the resolution is wrong and I can't set it back to the native (1440x900)" They come and collect it, take it in for repair, then send it back blaming my PC. I start raging that they are idiots, and to prove it I test the monitor on other PCs after finding out it was an EDID error, same results on all other PCs. I ring them again. "Yes I recently got my monitor back, and found the problem straight away, it was an EDID error, how could you not have check this!" "A what?!" "EDID, the data the monitor sends to the computer, it's been wiped and now Windows is feeding it some rubbish that it has in registry" I send it in again, they can't fix it and blame my PC, AGAIN! Even though I have proved it was the monitor, by now I am ready to stab every single Tech Guy I ever see. The worst thing is that the first time I got it back, the had broken the casing slightly, and the second they snapped the stand off...idiots.
The worst thing is that the first time I got it back, the had broken the casing slightly, and the second they snapped the stand off...idiots.
Asked for a refund?
Asked for a refund?
Can't, they put a new stand on and sorted the casing out :(. But they never noticed the casing thing until I sent it in the second time.
The worst thing is that the first time I got it back, the had broken the casing slightly, and the second they snapped the stand off...idiots.
This reminds me of the 'computer clinic' I sent my PC into, to get repaired back in 2006, when it suddenly wouldn't boot (I assumed it was a virus because it suddenly happened). After a week or two they tell me the motherboard is broken and I'll need a new one. Fine, I'm sure these people know what they're talking about. 6 MONTHS LATER "Hey, have you managed to do anything with the computer?" "Oh yeah we're still trying to get the motherboard." "..." I eventually take it back, and notice far later on that the retards misplaced a metal cover and a screw from my PC case. (a really small one on the back of my PC) Fast forward 4 or so months. My friend suggests giving it to his dad to see if he can do anything. I do, he has the fucking thing fixed in two days, because there was a fucktonne of malware on my computer because some idiot I know downloads shit on it without thinking, later offering the explanation "You can't get viruses from THAT!", suggesting "You're retarded, I know what I'm talking about!". Yeah, malware deleted, computer works as it was before it stopped working. Some day said person downloads more shit. I IMMEDIATELY virus scan the folder and find a worm and two fucking trojans. Needless to say I don't let him download shit on it anymore, because I'm not fucking going a year without my PC AGAIN.
Wow, two cases in one, the helpdesk and your "friend". Unlucky.
Don't feels like it worth 1500$ but hell it's a antec 1200 full of neon shit put it out for even more :D kids will buy it! Sold a p4 with a 7900gt for like 800$ 2 years ago, it was a lightning show. ^^
You could probably put lights on a fucking printer and someone would pay double for it.
For the people who keep saying, "Ogm i only need 100gb of spacelol how do u need so much space?" If you deal with raw uncompressed footage a lot, your harddrive space tends to get sapped, a simple 10 minute clip uncompressed can rape your hard drive of about a fifth of it's space really easily.
Our school recently got really nice computers in the library. Dual Cores, 22" wide screen monitors, and Photoshop installed on all of them. Problem is, the fucking moron who decides the template that the computers will be set to (resolution, desktop layout, etc.) left the resolution on the monitors at 800 x 600. These are 1440 by 900 monitors and the idiot has them at the lowest possible resolution. I try talking to the librarian about it, but only when I start opening programs like Photoshop and Word side by side at different resolutions does she get it. She said she'd talk to the school tech expert. This was about a month ago, and still no change. It's fucking annoying talking to people with very little knowledge of computers.
We have 19" CRTs in our lab made for 1280x1024 and they're all set to 800x600. I used to change it and get yelled at every time I did, but now they have restrictions on our accounts to where we can't even access the toolbar options.
http://www.12noon.com/index.htm They have an app for changing reolution through command line. Just create a shortcut from it with the settings for the resolution you want and run it from your student folder. The actual file is only 149KB, just unzip the install to your folder and keep only dc.exe.
Seriously. I then say 300 gigs is all I need, and they go "HAHA, I have 500 gigs!, you got ripped off!"
Who would want a 500gb hard drive? What if it crashes? Then, you're screwed if you don't have a backup. I just bought a 320gb internal, but I'm still keeping most of my stuff backed up on my 150gb internal and 20gb external.

They run as slow as my old 600mhz computer that I had when I was 7.
I have a 500GB hard drive because Fraps like to eat hard drives for breakfast. Hard drives are so cheap per GB now that 500GB is really the standard size for alot of people, unless they go with a SSD. The difference between a 320GB and 500GB hard drive is only about $10-15.

I've got two 250GB drives with all of my important data stored on both, and I want to get a smaller external drive as well. That said, "small" and "giant" are relative. Small could be 500GB and giant 1TB for some people.
Since I don't have any data to backup, I just have one 500GB drive. I'd only get more HDDs to expand my space.
My brother who does not do any overclocking or extreme gaming (just WoW) wants to buy a quad core CPU so he wants an intel LGA775 3.0 GHz quad for like £250. I tried to convince him he does not need quad core and if he went with AMD he could get a motherboard and a 3.2 GHz dual core for what he needs for £130 but he is set on getting a quad core because it's 'better'.
tell him to get a phenom II 920
tell him to get a phenom II 920
I actually did tell him to get that if he wants quad core but I don't see the point in quad, not many games utilise 2 cores never mind 4
Well a q9550 will rape any amd dual core, but to run WoW you pretty much will be fine with anything :). Once my jawed drop, i was speaking with a mac lover that was smart. He said, yes i know the hardware in a mac is not worth the money. I almost gave him a hug. But i'm going to murder a cocky fucker in my class, he got a pentium 4,5ghz standard clock and bought a 8500gt when he had a 7900gt telling me that a 8500gt is alot better then whining about the performance.
Remember kids, bigger numbers = better performance
I had some little dipshit preaching to me while I was trying to finish off my Art project in school. "Vista is shit- it crashes like every 3 seconds." "Macs are the best, they don't get viruses." "I like using my mac for photo editing. They're way better for that. I use iPhoto. Photoshop is shit" And then he went on to list the firewire and USB ports he has on his machine, as if it made it better. I so wanted to punch that little fuck in the face.
Lucky for me my whole family is computer literate: My dad is and ex-computer pprogrammer and his job has everything to do with computers. My mum knows quite a bit about computers and at her new job she is learning to design a website. My little brother knows quite a bit abit computers. My little sister at the age of 4 can browse the web and enter web addresses and stuff. Everyone in my family has there own computer and we have about 6 spare and 5 dismantled and about 2 and a half computers worth of various/broken parts. Its a good life!
