My brother who does not do any overclocking or extreme gaming (just WoW) wants to buy a quad core CPU so he wants an intel LGA775 3.0 GHz quad for like £250. I tried to convince him he does not need quad core and if he went with AMD he could get a motherboard and a 3.2 GHz dual core for what he needs for £130 but he is set on getting a quad core because it's 'better'.
Actually the new expansion rapes non-dual cores and graphics cards that are worse than 8800GT
Actually the new expansion rapes non-dual cores and graphics cards that are worse than 8800GT
yeah they really upped the graphics on Wotlk, i find myself stuttering when turning around on this: e6850, 4gb ddr2 ram, 4870
My dad doesn't know how to close a window. He just drags them to the edge of the screen when he's done using them :(
My dad doesn't know how to close a window. He just drags them to the edge of the screen when he's done using them :(
why don't you try to show him how?
To be honest I don't care if someone's computer illiterate, they have there reasons. I mean seriously they don't know about computers just like I don't know anything about football for example, don't see them going batshit crazy at me for not knowing anything; they accept that and I really don't care they don't know.
I had some little dipshit preaching to me while I was trying to finish off my Art project in school. "Vista is shit- it crashes like every 3 seconds." "Macs are the best, they don't get viruses." "I like using my mac for photo editing. They're way better for that. I use iPhoto. Photoshop is shit" And then he went on to list the firewire and USB ports he has on his machine, as if it made it better. I so wanted to punch that little fuck in the face.
give me his address, I'll punch him for you. really, for the last time, macs don't inherently not get viruses, it's just most people don't bother making them. also, vista isn't that bad, I use it and I almost never crash. I still prefer my ubuntu partition though.
Seriously. Especially with kids at my school unless they know their shit. Like if I tell someone "Hey I got a new computer", they try to act all smart and say "How much hard drive space does it have? :c00l:". I then say 300 gigs is all I need, and they go "HAHA, I have 500 gigs!, you got ripped off!" I can't stand this. I only need 300 gigs. Then I ask them about other hardware, like the video card, and they just go "" and I say, I have a 3870x2, and then they go ":confused:" and just walk away, thinking to them selves that I'm an idiot for buying this computer because it doesn't have as much hard drive space. Why this bothers me: 1. They think I'm an idiot for spending more and not getting as much hard drive space as their 3 year old machine 2. They go around telling people that I'm a computer illiterate moron (EG. "Dude, this guy thinks he got a good computer, but he only got 300 gigs HAHAH!" "REALLY?!" "YEAH" "HAHHA WHAT A MORON")
I have 2.5 TB's, 1TB compy and a 1.2TB on the other compy, 300GB External. Why? Games on one (before I reformatted I had about 700GB of content, only 50 or so wasn't for a game >.>), movies on the other (Downloads, DVDs, blu-rays), music on the external. Oh, and: (Just the gaming PC) Q6600 Core2 Quad 6GB Ram, 800MHz 9800GT 512MB DDR3 X-Fi Creative Soundblaster nForce 680i SLI 800w PSU I kept it cheap because I just went with stock cooling. When I build my new computer next year I'm probably going to get liquid cooling and go with ATI rather than NVidia. ATI has better performance but that fuck overheats on stock cooling like no other.
Yeah one of my friends thinks how good your computer is just goes by how much memore you have.
Yeah one of my friends thinks how good your computer is just goes by how much memore you have.
He says he has 500GB of RAM, right?
HDD space means jack shit. I've got a 40 GB hard drive and I'm doing just fine and dandy. Plus Steam games, and I've STILL got about 7 GB left.
He says he has 500GB of RAM, right?
I fucking hate it when people I know say that. they walk up to me and say "I've got 360 gb of ram, how much do you have?" then when I explain the difference they get mad and say I'm stupid. edit: and then ask me to fix their laptop.
Wanna know what I can't stand? You people because you sit there acting all smug saying "oh yeah, I'm so hardcore because I know the basics of hardware". Truth be told, you don't know shit so stop like you do.
HDD space means jack shit. I've got a 40 GB hard drive and I'm doing just fine and dandy. Plus Steam games, and I've STILL got about 7 GB left.
Tell that to me, the guy who has over 170 games on his STEAM account, do you still stick to your story?
Wanna know what I can't stand? You people because you sit there acting all smug saying "oh yeah, I'm so hardcore because I know the basics of hardware". Truth be told, you don't know shit so stop like you do.
holy shit read the thread before you act stupid
but if you did read the thread and still stick to your statement then get out
Tell that to me, the guy who has over 170 games on his STEAM account, do you still stick to your story?
Yes, because everyone must have 170 games installed on their computer at once.
Wanna know what I can't stand? You people because you sit there acting all smug saying "oh yeah, I'm so hardcore because I know the basics of hardware". If you have done this and still claim we don't know shit, get the fuck out, or proove you know more.
Our school recently got really nice computers in the library. Dual Cores, 22" wide screen monitors, and Photoshop installed on all of them. Problem is, the fucking moron who decides the template that the computers will be set to (resolution, desktop layout, etc.) left the resolution on the monitors at 800 x 600. These are 1440 by 900 monitors and the idiot has them at the lowest possible resolution. I try talking to the librarian about it, but only when I start opening programs like Photoshop and Word side by side at different resolutions does she get it. She said she'd talk to the school tech expert. This was about a month ago, and still no change. It's fucking annoying talking to people with very little knowledge of computers.
Oh I hate the IT managers at my school. We got relatively nice screens, small but fast computers. Dual core 3.2ghz, some decent graphics card I can't remember name of, and 512mb ram. They run fast, but if you even try multitasking, it fucks up. They are still running windows XP SP 1, even though they came out a lot later than windows vista. All the computers run IE, with a custom server system. Each time you log on you need to install Firefox on that computer, on that user account.
Tell that to me, the guy who has over 170 games on his STEAM account, do you still stick to your story?
I think you're just showing off.

It really made me mad today when this one guy in my class was "testing" my friend on computers, and calling him stupid. So I'm like, "Go ask me some questions" and hes all like, "WAT DOES MATH ON YOURE COMPUTYER NOT IN A GAME" and I'm like, cpu obviously, and then hes all like LOL NO RAM YOU IDIOT, and I'm like no. And it was basically that for the next 10 hours. He also thinks he's hardcore cause he pirates things :\. It's fun actually reading how much someone uses of their 500GB+ harddrive their HP and other manufacturer's harddrives. Like seriously, all those manufacturers do is like LOL IT HAS BIG RAM AND HARDDRIVE AND A VISTA READY GRAPHICS CARD (which is always integrated or something). Well, I go to middle school, and the IT teacher is so stupid, my friends and I had to teach our class on flash, and she didn't know any, so we had to teach her as well. So the first thing we did was move a ball across the screen, with a motion tween that was about 30 frames. After that, she made us move the ball without a motion tweens, and just clicking left and new keyframe buttons. Like seriously, what a waste of time. She also thinks the school computers have a video card, and thinks she actually knows what she's talking about, and it just makes me so mad :\ Shes goes all like, LOL YOU HAS TO PLUG IN MONITOR INTO TEH VIDEO CARD, And I just so badly wanted to reply, "LOL WAT VIDEOCARD PLUG, I DON"T SEE NO VIDEO CARD." This rant is kinda off topic, but I hate people who use the word power bar. It's just so annoying. There like, "plug it into the power bar", it just sounds so stupid.
My friends think they know alot about computers, but know shit. It really irritates me too. I asked if anyone bought vista lately and a kid said "Is that some sort of new firewire or somethin'?" And I facepalmed.
I get p'd when people use the interweb and find AMAZING sites like Mininova then try to download every single thing and get really angry when the STUPID internet says it won't do it. They then post in REDUNCULUNSE forums about how their AWESOME computer just isn't compatible with that shitty internet thing. I asked one of these posters what was wrong with the site he was using, and he said, quote, "It just won't download to my computer". I then asked if he had the correct software (i.e. uTorrent etc). He replied "SOFTWARE?! I think you mean HARDWARE". Then i asked him if he had ever used torrents before and he said "Torrents?! I just use these mad sites that are FREEZ" Finally I said, "Get the correct software", and he said, "SOFTWARE?! I think you mean HARDWARE". I facepalmed my nose so hard its been mutilated ever since.
I don't mind talking to Computer illiterate people about computers, as long as they know they are and aren't in denial.
I like talking to computer illiterate people about computers. I get to sound patronizing and condescending!
I'm a librarian/network administrator for a large community college. We have 36 workstations in our library, ostensibly for research purposes, and we use Internet filtering software, due to some students viewing pornography in the library. Part of my job is to check Internet histories for attempted accesses to sites of this kind. One recent night I was doing this and discovered that a student had typed in -- THIRTEEN TIMES -- "www i want to buy a cd dot com."
That, is lol from here http://www.rinkworks.com/stupid/cs_web.shtml
I like talking to computer illiterate people about computers. I get to sound patronizing and condescending!
I like to do that too to people who know I'm only joking about it (but in a serious way), I will help someone who legitimately needs help, and i will put it in simple terms, but if someone is being ignorant about the topic at hand then i will do that to them.
Best one I've ever talket do was when I said my crappy pentium d 2.8ghz needs to be change I got the response
2.8Ghz?! How is that crappy mine is just 1.8Ghz
He was talking about his 1.8Ghz quad core...
