I can't stand talking to computer illiterate people about computers.

Who honestly needs 500 GB?
I don't know why, but I can't manage to use less than 230 GB, my HD is about 260. That is, until I reformatted, I don't know where the rest of the space went, but now I have like 160.8 GB left. (I'm guessing either Linux is stupid or Windows was stupid.)
I hate when I tell them I can't wait for GTA4 to come out for PC, and then they go "DUDE GTA4 FOR THE PC IS GONNA SUCK SO BAD THE GRAPHICS WILL BE TERRIBLE"
Then I have to explain to them that the PC looks much better than the 360 if you have the right hardware, and they still refuse to accept it.

Go look in disk management.
Some idiot thinks my computer sucks because it only has 300gb of hard drive space. Boy is he wrong.

He can enjoy his shitty 5400rpm drives and transfer rates.
Size of a HDD doesn't matter.
SCSI Ultra320 (Screenshot also proves this) is FAR superior than SATA. Sadly, they don't come in HUGE quantities. So far, looking over pricesheets and several sights, highest I see them is 300GB. But holy crap they can push the envelope in data transfer speeds.
I might got 800GB of harddrive space, it doesn't make my PC any better than anyone elses. Mainly because it sucks (Outdated piece of shit :argh:) when it comes to most things.
HDD size = Irrelevant unless you do video editing I suppose?
The real problem comes, when the sellers in my favorite computer hardware store, become computer illiterate people :tinfoil:

Frys? CompUSA?
Those two I noticed a sharp decline of computer literacy. :sigh:
This is what you get when you hire kids from highschool and say "I know computers" (All they know is GB is supposed to be good, and how to use MS Office 2003.)
Well thanks. Now you're telling me that 12MB of my RAM is pointless on my 486 computer.
Thanks :(
Well parity memory was expensive in its day, though it really didn't help with diagnosing memory issues much unless you knew how the memory controller mapped the address space out. If the memory had a parity error, it would just display an address and halt the system making it troublesome to find which stick was failing.
I guess it would be better than normal memory so at least you knew some of the ram was going bad. It would probably be better than working on something in Windows and having horrible rape corruption and losing work.
I'm not saying macs are bad or anything but this lady at our school who i was "tech-aid" for is in love with mac because hackers can like make a virus in like 10 seconds and destroy your whole computer and I'm like sure but I've had my computer for a year and a half and have yet to get a virus that could' t be removed by avg in 30 seconds. she is also the sys admin for the whole school district, I still like her because she brought cookies once a week.
Also the other teacher tech person thinks that because the computer has more GHz the computer would be better for video editing and I'm like you also need a video card if you want to do anything at all without being raped by lag, he then replies what ever GHz are all that matter anyway.
I have 500GB actually, and I think I need more considering all the stuff I download.
A couple years ago, my mother had forced me down to Best-Buy with her to 'Fix' her 6-year old laptop. (Not only that, it was a Dell.) She was having trouble with it being enormously slow. There was a reason for that, but she gets rather dumb when I tell her about why.
They told her she needed new memory, and recommended the most expensive set in the store. (Of course!) She later discovered that she really did need another laptop to cure her software slowdown woes.
She didn't do it until this year. :downs:
People who buy amazingly expensive computers just for MSN, web browsing and music.
Why oh why?
Yes. This. Is EXTREMELY annoying to me!
For example, my uncle bought an computer.
Specs in it:
Nvidia Geforce 8800GTX
Dual core 2.4 GHZ
800GB harddrive
4 GB ram
Windows Vista.
.. Guess what he does? HE PLAYS CHESS OVER INTERNET WITH IT! WHAT THE FUCK IS UP WITH THAT SHIT!?
That's why facepunch should form are own colony, to keep the not so smart people out.
OH HI GUYS LOOK I SPENT MY DAD'S MONEY ON A COMPUTER THAT CAN RUN TWO GAMES AT ONCE RUNNING TWO FPS GAMES AT ONCE MAKES MY SISTER WET OH YES I CAN FEEL MY PENIS GETTING BIGGER AT THE MOMENT
Well, Almost everyone.
It's worse when it's someone who thinks they know stuff about computers because they go into control panel all the time. Someone here installed a XP driver for his CPU, then a few weeks later a new cd/dvd driver (again for XP) and complained after a few days when it wasn't working. HE RUNS VISTA. He didn't even TELL me about the CPU driver :v: Note this was weeks ago, and he still hasn't got it fixed.
I am hoping to... yes, I found out your posts.
I hate people that get Ghz and GB confused.
I can easily live off of 150, maybe less.

i have 600gb
i'm running out fast

Speaking of SCSI, anyone want to buy a 37.6GB Cheetah @ 15K RPM?
My friend told me he has 4000 GB's of RAM :geno:
my friend told me he hacked the pentagon and sent a rerouted a plane from the nearby airport into the pentagon aswell, he is pretty badass and i wish i had hacking skills like him
Had a PSHE day today (AKA dos day about drugs) and one of my teachers decided the easiest way of closing VLC was to shutdown the computer... How can you work with a computer all day and not know how to close a full screen window? I mean getting task manager up would have done it sure that is a bit extreme but it would still work.

I honestly see no point in the SCSI interface, no drive in existence can break SATA's 3gb/s transfer rate, and this cap does not apply to RAID.
A Raptor is pretty much a high end enterprise SCSI drive but uses the SATA interface right?

steal the video card it's not like he'll need it

The point of SCSI is to have extreme reliability in enterprise level servers. Servers on the enterprise level are expected to be online 24/7 365 and that puts a big demand on the drives, especially if they're on a web server / SQL server with tons of activity.
I think you're slightly confused about the speed of SATA drives. The transfer rate is measured in gigabits, not gigabytes. The 3 gigabit transfer rate converts into about 375 megabytes a second for theoretical maximum speed, though it's not generally seen in practical implementations. Generally you will get between 150-220 with bursts that might be a bit higher.
SCSI can sustain the transfer rate that it's rated at, so if you have Ultra 320 drives, it will generally sustain that speed while reading and about half that while writing.
The problem is that you are a socially inept nerd that don't know how to talk to people, not that they are illiterate. Try explaining slowly next time without using complext terms and don't become all arrogant and snotty when they don't understand.

But we're better and more 1337 than them. How can we possibly treat them nicely?

The problem is that even if you use idiot-speak to try to explain the situation, most of the time they will never get it and keep asking you what's going on. There is a limit on how much stupidity you can take before you want to rip your hair out.

I see, so with a highly reliable drive you need a highly reliable interface. It's not just the speed.
