are your drivers uptodate?
I am an idiot. :saddowns: So I bought the CPU cooler and some arctic silver 5 at the nearby Fry's Electronics. I had no standoffs previous to installing this new cooler, and when I unscrewed the old cooler, this black piece of plastic falls off. So I think "Oh that must have been holding it on.". I go ahead and install the new cooler, hook everything back up, and proceed to try to turn on the computer. I press the button. Nothing. I press it again, "maybe I didn't push it in all the way". Nothing once again. I re-install every component. And then I realize. [i]That black piece of plastic![/i] It was what kept my Motherboard from frying the first time I put it in that case, and with it gone, there was nothing to keep my motherboard for mistaking itself for an uncooked french fry. I believe that my motherboard is dead, due to my ignorance. Is there any chance that my CPU, video card, RAM, or sound card survived? Edit: Just looked up my mobo, it costs $100 and is a pretty crappy board. Does anyone have suggestions for a new CPU/Mobo combo? I was planning on upgrading, but I thought overclocking would have been cheaper. If I had paid more attention I might not need a new mobo. But what is done is done. Everyone has been really helpful this far, and I thank you all for that.
That black thing was probably what the old cooler was holding to. Can you post pics. Maybe you accidentally unplugged a psu cable?
are you sure it isn't just your video drivers
It doesn't start. [editline]03:28PM[/editline] It was just a black plastic rectangle with screw-holes in it to hold on the old heatsink. [editline]03:56PM[/editline] I also plugged back in anything that was unplugged. [editline]04:04PM[/editline] Do you think, for some reason, my PSU could have died, and this is a coincidence? It was an un-branded PSU and I didn't even know the wattage, could this be what had caused the original problem? Is this even possible? Maybe it couldn't supply enough power to everything and just finally snapped?

I know, any recommendations for a budget PSU, maybe like 450-600W? I found a couple of good Corsair/Antec PSUs but they are around 60-130 for that kind of wattage. Like this one: [url]http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139004[/url]

Damn, you guys are helpful. [editline]09:08PM[/editline] Now I just need some cash. Maybe I'll wash some cars or something.
