actually, both. NOW: Gold star to those who find the spelling error! [img_thumb]http://i909.photobucket.com/albums/ac298/4rawrs4srs/polices-1.png[/img_thumb]
The title of the window. It says "polices".
The title of the window. It says "polices".
Gold star for you. Too bad the guys in charge of every computer within our district couldn't figure that out 6 years ago when they started making us click yes on that thing every time we log in.

A few years ago, most computers were ~2.4 Ghz single core. My computer teacher insisted, after I pointed out an error on the test, that computer speeds were in fact reaching the gigahertz range, and that 40 GB was the normal size of hard drives at the time, when it was more like 80GB. I almost got a B in that class, deviating from my normal 'A's. My school has POE access points all over the school. They suck, but that's not the point. They don't encrypt; but no one can connect, not even the teachers, with their personal wireless equipment. There's no certificate either. I'm guessing MAC filters, but that's lame, considering how easy it is to spoof. I can easily get to every file @ school with a simple shortcut. You can't type them in or go to them through explorer other than shortcuts. They block run dialog and even nix the start menu. Yea. I got to CMD.exe easily - they don't block friggen batch files. Guess they figure we students are shit at computers, but there are a few of us that know our way around Windows - I've been using it since age 3, giving me 14 years of experience - probably more than some of the IT people at school.

When i was in 4th grade, i used to replace some people documents that were on the server with a .bat file with the same name and stuff, but made it just open a command prompt saying "YOU ARE GETTING HACKED" and watch the reactions. Funny stuff because the computer teacher was more computer illiterate than linuX
Oh you...
I've got my cousin to say that his next computer will be custom built. By me. :3:
Here's a little personal story: Recently, I decided to get back to programming in C++, so I went and got Visual Studio 2010. After downloading and installing, I started to code again. So after around an hour of writing, I started to compile. Only to come upon the error: "Cannot include file "iostream.h", no such file or directory". So naturally checked for syntax errors, finding none, I went through ever iteration I knew; Until I was raging so much that none worked. So I broke down and decided to go ask the omniscient internet. After reading only one solution, it hit me that I was using outdated knowledge of .NET 1.0 architecture for a program made with a .NET 4.0 environment. I facepalmed so hard I could feel my neighbor's house. tl;dr: I used outdated programming knowledge to work an updated system.
Model backpedaling post.
Did you join the debate team this past month or something? You've become quite the arguer, and I like it.
I imagine he makes that face whenever he posts.
You know what surprises me? Arguer is an actual word.
Argumentation is a word.
Uncopyrightable is the longest word in which no letter is repeated.
Almost is the longest word in alphabetical order.
typewriter is the longest word to use a single line of the keyboard
racecar is the same forwards as backwards
At my school, at the end of the year, they have to delete the files of everyone who graduates. They decided on using a batch file. One problem was a folder was missing so the file messed up and deleted everything on all the student's servers.
yesterday my sister told me she'd found out about a "new xbox" she told me to google for Natal I tell her it was renamed to kinect, but apparently I've been misinformed by the entire internet because that's the name of the redesigned 360 she told me it was "exactly like wii but better" I show her it's a camera, she replies "no, that was the eyetoy" I point to the camera itself and tell her that's it and it plugs into the 360, but apparently the camera isn't a camera, it's the "new xbox" I ask her if it isn't a camera, how does it work, it can't be magic because the ipad already covered that she replies "but this is an xbox, not an eyetoy" I'm then told by my mom "you might hate it just because it's microsoft but you shouldn't lie to her" the only valid response in this situation
A friend of mine asked me the other day if I "had seen the new Xbox E3?" On a side note, my dad calls a desktop a desktop, a laptop a laptop, and a netbook a web browser. After the cat had chewed on the charger we had to get a new one. We went up to Best Buy (yes, I know, Best Buy, ughh. But my parents refuse to buy anything online) and my Dad walked up to one of the employees and said "I need a new AC adapter for my web browser." The employee chuckled a bit (understandably) and helped him get the charger. The charger ended up costing about $20. As we were about to go to the checkout line my Mom runs over with this and makes my Dad buy it. Why did she want it so much? She liked the glossy finish. I tried to convince her that we didn't need this, but she made my Dad buy it anyway. When we got home we unboxed it only to find it didn't come with the correct tip for the netbook, and they didn't have the tip in their online catalogue. So my Dad had to drive back to Best Buy, return the charger and get the correct one. In short, my Dad doesn't know the correct terminology. My Mom buys stupid expensive shit for no reason. She sounds like someone who would instantly spring for something like a Mac, yet she insists that her computer is to be made by eMachines. Yet, in the past four years, she has bought six different computers, all made by eMachines. This is all because the first computer in the family was made by eMachines, and it did last a decent amount of time (6 years).
That was the last day of school, No more good stories from me for 3 weeks :-(
I'm more computer literate than most people I know, but compared to most of FP, I am illiterate. I know that I don't have 500gb of ram, and other crap like that though. I want to get more into it, as in knowing all the part names and numbers. And knowing which ones are better and what not. I know how to use a computer, and what most of the internal parts do, but I want to become more knowledgeable. What is the best way to do it? Which magazines should I read?
Friend needs new GPU. Friend asks me what GPU to get. At the time, the best bang-for-the-buck GPU was the 6600GT. Friend purchases new GPU. Friend calls me saying that his computer says that his GPU isn't getting enough power. I travel to friend's house. I notice box says "geForce 6200". Following exchange occurs: "*friend's name*" "Yes?" "How many times did you ask me what GPU to get?" "I lost count." "What did I tell you every single time?" "geForce 6600GT." "Is this a geForce 6600GT?" "...No." *box to side of friend's head* Anyway, I open his computer to discover that he didn't plug the molex power connector into the GPU. :downs:

Don't listen to LinuX about anything, but listen to me. Maximum PC is the best, but it seems to be hard to find in a lot of countries.
MaximumPC is the best. Hands down.
as much as I dislike agreeing with LinuX, maximum PC is an excellent magazine.
I imagine he makes that face whenever he posts.
Yes my face emulates my avatar's face exactly whenever I post. It's like a fucking workout, my neck muscles are so RIPPED. I gotta be careful when I turn my head so I don't snap my neck.
