So if he has any decent antivirus it would alert him that the archive is fucked up.
I bet he has Norton.

no norton is the best av EVAR!@!!!1
Why would you open it? The thing could screw up your computer badly. Google up Zip bombing.
Who said they were opening it?
Just download it yourself as a .zip and attach it to an e-mail.
no opening required on our part
Who said they were opening it?
Sorry i misread your post.
It's safe to download 42.zip, it's just that if you extract it you're fucked.
I think the zip is > 1024 KB. You could just write some 5 MB word file and zip that with 42.zip, tell him to extract 42.zip, and bing bang boom! He is fucked up the butt!

But what if my finger slips and I open it? :ohdear:
i was going to suggest opening it and renaming all the 16s to shit like "archive" and "emu" and "halo" and shit to make it seem a little more legit, just OPENING it shouldn't fuck you over, right?

What does an archive bomb do?
What does an archive bomb do?

A zip bomb, also known as a Zip of Death or decompression bomb, is a malicious archive file designed to crash or render useless the program or system reading it. It is often employed to disable antivirus software, so that a more traditional virus sent afterwards could get through undetected.
Rather than hijacking the normal operation of the program, a zip bomb allows the program to work as intended, but the archive is carefully crafted so that unpacking it (e.g. by a virus scanner in order to scan for viruses) requires inordinate amounts of time, disk space or memory.
A zip bomb is usually a small file (up to a few hundred kilobytes) for ease of transport and to avoid suspicion. However, when the file is unpacked its contents are more than the system can handle.
The technique has been used on dialup bulletin board systems at least as long as compressing data archive programs have been around.[citation needed]
Today, most antivirus programs can detect whether a file is a zip bomb and so avoid unpacking it.[citation needed]
One example of a Zip bomb was the file "42.zip" which was 42 kilobytes of compressed data, containing six layers of nested zip files in sets of 16, each bottom layer archive containing a 4.2 gigabyte file for a total of 4.5 petabytes of uncompressed data. This file is still available for download on various websites across the internet.
And he lives in mac town, because his mommy lives there and she makes great kraft mac and cheese
What does an archive bomb do?
You open it, then another archive is inside, then you open that one, and the next, and the next, and the next, up until you run out of hard drive space.
EDIT:
Ninjas.
Ah okay. So its basically:
Compressed file > compressed file > compressed file and so on.
So in reality, its not really a virus, just an exploit to make it screw over your HDD.
I guess the only way you can stop it is if you have a petrabyte of space on your computer.
And he lives in mac town, because his mommy lives there and she makes great kraft mac and cheese
no it's because macs are the kings of computers and are impossible to hack/great to hack with :downs:

Yes, but it can make some AVs vunerable, allowing a virus that would normally be detected to pass through.

Before someone screencapped the Norton icon on his desktop, I imagined he had something on the lines of Antivirus Pro 2010 or something...
I've replaced a power supply, graphics card, and RAM in a Dell with no problem before.
I will actually correct myself there, RAM is easy too. I need a new PSU but I can't buy one that'll fit into the crappy Dell case.
