I'm more computer literate than most people I know, but compared to most of FP, I am illiterate. I know that I don't have 500gb of ram, and other crap like that though. I want to get more into it, as in knowing all the part names and numbers. And knowing which ones are better and what not. I know how to use a computer, and what most of the internal parts do, but I want to become more knowledgeable. What is the best way to do it? Which magazines should I read?
Keep browsing these sorts of threads, read magazines and articles, and the most important: Get creative computer hobbies. Programming would be the best in my opinion, but who says you can't have more than one?
as much as I dislike agreeing with LinuX, maximum PC is an excellent magazine.
Well, then you DON'T agree with LinuX, you agree with broo20. don't want anyone to feel uncomfortable.
Anyway, I open his computer to discover that he didn't plug the molex power connector into the GPU. :downs:
Oh dear, I did that the first time I upgraded my graphics card, played for a while wondering why it was performing worse than my last one. I was only about 12 at the time though. :v:
My nan still insists that Firefox is the name of a virus, despite the fact that she has been using the Firefox browser for years.
Jackson: Yeah, it's clocked to 11:00 AM and can make pictures on the screen in 60hz a minute.
Computer illiterate people who think they know things V6 - My GPU is clocked at 11:00 AM! [editline]05:53PM[/editline]
I had a female friend in an IT class back when I was doing GCSEs whow as really surprised when I said I'd built my own computer. She thought building your computer meant like soldering all the billions of transistors together etc.
Doesn't everyone go through such a phase at some point when they develop an interest in computers?
Doesn't everyone go through such a phase at some point when they develop an interest in computers?
I didn't. i feel weird.
Today me and my fanboy friend were talking about PC vs Mac, and he was saying that his mac 'is better because it's built by Apple, and your PC will probably explode because you built it yourself'. Then we ended up talking about Android vs Iphone OS and one of my other friends held up his Samsung Genio Touch and said 'I'm gonna install Android on this :D' and I was just like :v:. Then we moved on to the topic of Safari vs Google Chrome/Firefox and one of my other friends said 'fuck you guys IE is the best because I can't get any viruses'. God my friends are all mac fanboys or plain and simple illiterate, I only have 2 computer literate friends. Good thing my entire family is computer literate to some extent. My mum may not be the brightest with computers at times, but she knows enough about them to not fuck them up and to stay away from viruses. Also, my Dad knows much more than me, he is an awesome programmer and shit. He brought be up on games like Half-Life and taught me how to build PC's from a young age :buddy:.
I'm cleaning my friends PC atm, shitload of walware found and Avast is at 57% now. Picture not really releated, just somewhat hilarious.
It seems to me that women and mostly moms are extremely computer illiterate and don't want to learn at all..
My sister recently got uptight about legality. "You're downloading that free program to BOTH computers? Isn't that illegal!" god damnit
It seems to me that women and mostly moms are extremely computer illiterate and don't want to learn at all..
Yeah there's just not so many girls that are interested in it. There's only 1 girl in my computing class at uni.
My nan still insists that Firefox is the name of a virus, despite the fact that she has been using the Firefox browser for years.
My mom calls Firefox "Modzilla"

My mom was paranoid of me giving my old CPU away because she "didn't want her paypal information stolen off it." [editline]09:03PM[/editline] She also unplugged my external HD in an attempt to make the internet run faster.

A kid in the programming class at my school decided he wanted to know if he could hack a system. He talked to the teacher and had her show him how it works and all just as an "educational opportunity" and that he wouldn't use any of it, he was just curious. The next week all data was lost on the school's servers.
Is it an advanced programming class? Is the guy intelligent? If he was an idiot and it wasn't and advanced programming class then what kind of exploit was this?
rd /s /q \\FILESRV\STUDENT rd /s /q \\FILESRV\TEACHER
If that's the "exploit" then someone in IT needs to get fired for giving students such rights...
Megablocks are superior to legos.
Megablocks can NEVER EVER replace lego.
Megablocks are superior to legos.
Megablocks? More like none of the pieces fit together worth a shit, or they're so hard to fit together you bruise your fingers trying.
