This isn't really a Computer illiterate thing, more like a media illiterate. But my Gramps is still computer illiterate. I was at my grandparents place, and I rented the Movie "Be Kind Rewind", with Jack Black in it and lots of funny other things. Well the movie finished and I took out the DVD and gramps ask's, Hey! You Better Re-Wind that before you put it back in the box. I was kind of lost for woods to how to counter him. In the end I told him that it dose it automatically. I'm sure I'm not the only one that has gone through this situation.
Situational Joke ----> Your Head. Your Gramps is too cool for you to comprehend.

I love that everybody thinks of spork when someone says something about rewinding dvd's.
I love that everybody thinks of spork when someone says something about rewinding dvd's.
Or anything close to dvd's

Or how to even open a computer. He's also using a Laptop as stated in later chat.
At my primary school we couldn't use the internet for a whole year, whenever anyone asked why it was because "the school has gone onto broadband so if anyone used it for even one second the school would get charged thousands and thousands of pounds because it'll connect through the phone line when you use it".
Erm... What?
Exactly.
most people that say they're girls on the internet are guys the others are attention whores you belong in POY, not talking about computer parts
Not all girls on the internet are attention whores.
Not all girls on the internet are attention whores.
It seems that way because only the attention whores are the ones constantly informing you they are girls, and the normal girls don't mention their gender.
It seems that way because only the attention whores are the ones constantly informing you they are girls, and the normal girls don't mention their gender.
Attention whores are easy to find.
oh god my mum just held up an IDE cable and said "do we need this" and I asked "will you be needing a new hard drive for anything like backup?" (we have old ass PCs) and she said "does it have any data left on it" and I burst out laughing as she binned it.
The DVD player was not working. So my dad rewired EVERYTHING thats connected to it. He only needed to find the scart-cable that connects the DVD to the HD-Decoder, take it out de HD-Decoder and put it in the television. He was like busy al day, then I fixed it, and i needed to rewire everything back to normal :smith: Was alot of work...

You can only download as fast as your hard drive writes. If I have 2gb/s download rates I probably would only get 40meg/s on my primary hard drive and 60meg/s on my secondary. That is considering NOTHING else is writing to the drive at the time.
You can only download as fast as your hard drive writes.
Perfect example of title, there's something called RAM. Downloaded data first goes to the RAM then is written to the HDD.
Perfect example of title, there's something called RAM. Downloaded data first goes to the RAM then is written to the HDD.
Too bad I only have 2 gigs of ram and most of that is used for games or other programs. Not caching the download. [editline]09:37PM[/editline] Also, who has over 40meg/s internet here anyway? [editline]09:38PM[/editline] Or a HDD that writes slower than 1meg/s
Rate me dumb, but is there an actual data transfer rate on ram?
Rate me dumb, but is there an actual data transfer rate on ram?
Well yes, but it's a lot faster than a disk drive. A lot faster.
Rate me dumb, but is there an actual data transfer rate on ram?
Look here for DDR3 ram speeds http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DDR3#JEDEC_standard_modules 1333 MHz gets up to 10667MB/s.
Rate me dumb, but is there an actual data transfer rate on ram?
I believe the speed of it tells you the data transfer rate, for example PC2-6400 is supposed to do ~6400MB/s

[editline]09:38PM[/editline] Or a HDD that writes slower than 1meg/s
it's MB/s and you have a shitty hard drive if 40 MB/s is as fast as it can write
Look here for DDR3 ram speeds http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DDR3#JEDEC_standard_modules 1333 MHz gets up to 10667MB/s.
So why can't we make ram that does not delete itself after it powers off? This may all sound dumb
So why can't we make ram that does not delete itself after it powers off? This may all sound dumb
Limitations of current technology. Read up on volatile and non-volatile memory http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-volatile_memory
Wow guys, i just got payed $50 to make some chicks facebook photo black & white an stick a lightning, dinosaur and heart stencil on it. What the hell.
So why can't we make ram that does not delete itself after it powers off? This may all sound dumb
SSDs are basically just that. Only they are much slower because it's really expensive to develop technology that fast AND that big.

I've never seen someone who thought they needed rewinding. One who thought slowing down the video from a DVD meant making the DVD itself rotate slower, but that's just funny.
SSDs are basically just that. Only they are much slower because it's really expensive to develop technology that fast AND that big.
except SSDs are non volatile, at least the consumer ones only the really high end SSDs use volatile memory, but they have batteries to keep the data after the power source has been removed
