Oh god. This guy on facebook said he just re-formatted his kids pc's and installed 7 on it. I asked what the specs were and got this. I'm not sure if this would fall into the computer illiteracy category or not. Either way, it's an amusing story. Probably about ten years ago, I had myself a dell. Decent lower end computer. I installed McAfee with firewall for my AV (I'm sure everyone can immediately pick out the problem). A few days later, I logged onto AOL and couldn't access the internet. Called Dell and they sent out someone with a new modem which was installed. Still had the issue. Called dell again and they said that I needed to update IE. So, the tech person had me uninstall IE and install the updated version. This of course, fucked over my computer. One tech guy upon hearing my grandma had a Dell told me to make a backup of the OS to see about repairing errors (wtf). He argued with me when I told him that I didn't think it'd work since her computer was a XP and mine a ME. When it didn't..Whoops, looks like you need to reformat. Did that and called tech support back when it was time to reinstall the OS. First guy: "First you -hangs up-". Second guy ended up made us turn off several things on the BIOS, then decided he had no idea what to do. Third guy walked us through getting the OS reinstalled. What do you know, reinstalled McAfee and still couldn't get online, plus the computer wouldn't shut down properly. Ended up talking to yet another person who walked me through editing the firewall settings and setting up a file that would shut down the computer. I eventually got the bright idea to uninstall McAfee. What do you know. The problems went away.

That is the worst tech support I have ever heard. I recently had to call dell for my printer and I was answered by a man from India who spoke very good english and walked me through my problem. The whole problem was my printer had been knocked out by lightning and it still turned on so I wanted to see if I could save it.

It hit the house directly and got to the ground through an ant hill in the wall, it tripped the fuse box and knocked out my motherboard and monitor (along with 2 other computers). The printer still works I just had to discharge the static. There is also a nice hole in the wall by my desk where the wire exploded. (its safe, we had the electrician come out)
