Clearly that's an old 6 way SLI set up. It probably belongs to Maxishine.

Yeah, that guy is annoying me. He thinks a certificate is the only way you can be literate in computers. He's just trying to act big and cool because he graduated from DeVry.

was found in the ooooooold UVB-76 bunker, alongside a 4 year old printer. oddly new lookin' tech for a 1980's supercomputer room flooded and worn down from years and years and years of neglect...
I'd guess a stack of old automatic dialers, because they look too big to just be RJ14 (RJ11? I forget what the commies used) to whatever converters.

Some guy crept in and set that up to clean the waves and steal the GHz from UVB-76's computer. Clearly.

auto-dialers? What exactly are these for?
auto-dialers? What exactly are these for?
Server ping, connection establishing, multiple internet connections, things that'd require a connection to be made automatically.
Though I'd say it's not an auto dialer. Seeing as you found it with some printers, perhaps it's an older print server, with support for multiple printers/connections?
may i remind people of the "who think they know things" part of the title. this thread isnt for arguing whether or not knowing html makes you computer literate.

Back in the day they also got used pretty heavily in alarm systems.

A person knowing <html><body><font size="1" color="#CC00CC">How to HTML</font></body></html> doesn't prove the point that Athlon X2 2.7GHz doesn't mean it's 5.4GHz
Could also be a fax server, too. There's nothing saying it had to be connected to the printer just because they were near each other.
goddam ninja
What exactly is mono? I don't know in which context you mean.
if you're talking about what I think you are, it's an open-source implementation of the .NET framework
I love you Buttsex

and also there's a p. good facepunch user by the name too
the printer was elsewhere, I just mentioned because they seemed to be the only out-of-place items. That unit was apparently hiding behind an old tape reel reader.

I saw a GBA SP for a second, then I realized it has some differences.

Ah. Okay.

Any odds you can go back and get better pics? If you really care that much about what it is, I mean. Otherwise we're all kinda shooting in the dark here.
I'm not in russia, mate. :frown: someone on a russian site took the pics but didn't leave much info
like I said, it's the inside of the UVB-76 station. for more info- http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=990390

Yeah I got it was about Babystation Omega Ujechtozitel but I figured you were there, considering, you know, random pics
spelunking abandoned shit is a hobby of many modern yout
also when you said in that thread it couldn't have been 80s tech
an old autodialer could very well by 80s tech
and it looks like they were faked so blem
Had a teacher for my Computer Applications class today (Dumb mandatory class that teaches you how to use Word 2000)
I wanted to do stuff off of my flash drive, and she asked if I knew it was clean of viruses. This was a completely legitimate question, so I said yes, I scanned it with Avast! the night before. I bet you can guess what's next: She says "Avast is a virus itself! You should use Norton to make sure it's safe."
I really wanted to argue, but the bell rang, and I left.
I don't know if you guys remember that one retarded guy that goes to college with me. (It's been a while I posted about him.)
This is our first week for the new semester in college. Today we had a java class and were looking at really basic java/oop stuff. This was mostly creating a a class and creating 2 instances of that one class and working with public/private. We have already seen these with VB for 2 semester and everyone is pretty familiar with the concepts.
That one guys is not apparently. We were using getters and setters to access a variable. He didn't seem to understand how the fuck this was happening. I seriously have no idea how this guy managed to pass VB. After the last class he asked me for some help and I tried to explain it to him. I gave him pretty good examples. (Class = Plan for house, Object = House) I also made comparisons with other coding shit we saw. This guy was simply unable to comprehend the fact that when I go Object.getSomeShit() it gets the shit of that one object.
We have seen OOP a couple of times with alice (silly coding for kids) and VB (we haven't seem much of it but we have created instances of shit.)
He better fail or abandon this semester. He's always a problem for other people. We have a good amount of teamwork and we are a small group. There's always some people that get stuck with him. He doesn't want to follow what the team agrees on and shit. He does his own random useless shit and ends up lowing the mark of the entire team.
Here's what happened to a buddy of mine. He was stuck with him and some other dude(another friend) We all had to come up with a website and present it to the class. It was a long project. The website was supposed to be about a program in the college (IT related, there are only 2).
During the presentation my buddy does a great job and presents his website which was really good. (The idiot didn't do shit on said site) Then, out of the fucking blue the idiot starts presenting the program they were doing the website on. (every know that program)
We have a very similar situation with a class this semester. It's a good thing that our teacher told us that we could officially dump someone from the team. (I'm not with him but my other friends are). I wonder how long it's going to be before he gets kicked out.
Ohh and sorry if all of this is not all computer related. He's still stupid enough to be content for any thread.

2Gb = 256MB
2Gb = 256MB
Watch as the illiterates try to correct you.
Most of the classrooms in my school have computers for the students.
Well, in my technical drawing class, they had 40 computers. I checked the specs of some of them...
They were all custom-built Core 2 Duo computers clocked at 2.5 ghz with GeForce 9600 GT cards, 2 gb of ram, and 250 gb hard drive space - even though the files of every student are stored on a remote server somewhere.
And the worst part is, they were only used for drafting. :smithicide:
The company the school bought the computers/parts from were obviously money whores.
2Gb = 256MB
Good catch.
Haha, advanced batch
Guys he can do what we do without gui, this guy is genius
Built laptop? Any idiot can get it fit in case and connect connectors there and here
[editline]05:08PM[/editline]
Ironically half of posters here are illiterates themselves who thinks building computers, coding hello world application in c++ and using linux makes them literate. Show of your IT certifications kids, no one gives shit if you can code in html or not
I have zero "professional" habilitations yet can code perfectly fine in HTML, and C++, and have built my own computer and know more than most people coming out of professional courses :colbert:
2Gb = 256MB
lol he got rated dumb.
Alright so I was in class and files were writing really slow on the hard drive and the teacher was like "why is it taking so long?" and I said "There's probably something wrong with the hard drive" and she said "It doesn't look like there's anything wrong with it." and proceeded to stare at the front of the computer.
She thought the front of the computer was called the hard drive.

My friend's dad thought the copper heat-pipes were for water cooling. :downs:
So today, I visited a horrible Middle School PC class.
Quotes:
"We don't use Windows 7, too glitchy"
"Your index and middle finger are in the air, otherwise you could mess up the computer."
So if I delete an icon, does that mean the whole program is gone?
:downs:
2Gb = 256MB
wish you could see who rated who
2Gb = 256MB
