maybe not as budget as emachine: http://www.google.com/products?hl=en&rlz=&q=emachines+EL1352-01e&um=1&ie=UTF-8&ei=vvR5TO_vOZD6swPl1ZjuCg&sa=X&oi=product_result_group&ct=title&resnum=4&ved=0CC8QrQQwAw
I was able to run XP Home on a 233 MHz with about 96 MB of RAM.
I really hate when people come to me about computers and then they won't listen when I try and tell them anything other than what they want to hear. Like the kid who wanted a laptop to play games on. He wanted to buy a low end Alienware that cost around $900, and it'd cost around $1200 for a system that can handle the games he wants to play. (Assassin's Creed II for example) The last he was looking at was an Asus. Ugly, but had decent hardware. Then he just had to look at BestBuy. I hate them, they mark up their prices and their employees are so annoying. (Besides every large purchase I've made from them has ended up in the toilet. Coincidence?) He was willing to pay near $1000 for it, and I found one new for $600 elsewhere.

Playable for it being a netbook.
Best Buy really only marks up accessories. Their computers and shit aren't marked up much at all, that is why they pressure their buyers into service plans, because that is where the money comes from. They don't make shit off the computers themselves.
you're right about the service plans. My friend bought an ipod touch 32gb that ended up costing 450$

that doesn't make any sense at all. Something from a company is being sold at a low price, makes that company a budget brand? ASUS makes some of the highest quality shit you can get and they're known for their high end, high priced motherboards
[editline]02:18AM[/editline]
and no that laptop is definitely not ugly, obviously no sense of style
[editline]02:18AM[/editline]
and that's a pretty simple looking case, the only problem is the slant and that doesn't even look that bad
[editline]02:19AM[/editline]
and obviously Alienware is budget because the M11x starts at $799
[editline]02:20AM[/editline]
and Dell is definitely a budget brand because the Inspiron line starts at $249

Although they look good, I've had bad experiences all around with HP.
I've had three HP printers fail, and the ones they sent as replacements also failed or sucked.
My mother-in-law's HP laptop's battery died and it overheats constantly. The touchpad on it also broke.
Just sayin'
OH ALSO They're a fucking pain in the ass to take apart. It doesn't help that there's no manuals ANYWHERE to disassemble them.

You have bad luck probably. I have HP printer and laptop since 2003-2004 and both of them works good
My HP is the only prebuilt I continue to use. It just keeps... working.
I actually have a Toshiba Satellite A205-S5000 that my grandmother got me 3 years ago for $400. It has an Intel Celeron M @ 1.86ghz, 1gb of ram, Intel X3100 video chipset, and some generic 160gb hd. It has served me well, I used it until the day I got my Eee 1201n in the post. My mother uses it now in the family room for daily browsing and it still is going strong.

Seriously? There's computers that do that more, which I won't name.
So some content: my friend said his TV wouldn't play a game on his PS3 at 720p, which is weird because it can handle 1080i, but it worked fine at 480p or i or whatever the standard was. I told another friend about it, told him maybe it was the specific game he was trying to play, and then he arbitrarily grabbed a game case off his shelf, looked at the back and said "look, it runs at 720p".

Page king and I tried to bring some content in here.
that desktop doesn't look stupid
my friend actually has that desktop. It's a beast in person.
also I've got the crappy best buy Asus G51v. Fucking lights on the side are so bright it lights the room when you close the bastard.

can't argue, it does what I need it to, which is mostly work related. I've got my nice desktop to do heavy gaming.

Anyone here know about the defective NB8M chipset?
This pretty much explains it: http://hplies.com/
My friend had one, he brought it to my house. It was running at 120 fucking degrees celcius with just an internet browser up.
Whatever happened to thermal shutdown?

You can turn those off, actually. At least you can on the best buy G71G version. Have to go into the direct console.
You need free HDD space, and people that go 'clearing hardrive dosent make computer faster' are wrong, because a good cleanup and decent sized pagefile can make all the difference in the world
It's all mostly Drive fragmentation, Not just HDD space, Granted if you have some shitty 2600rpm (Not Exactly) drive you will see a noticeable difference in speed with more shit on it, but most drives aren't even close to that, most are around 5600rpm or higher, only times your hard drive is gonna slow down system performance is with tons of fragmentation.

Speaking of which, what specs do you have Dai?
How can they run it? I thought it needed at least a gig of ram?

Vista boots and runs on 256MB of ram. Runs smoothly too.
I can run win 7 decently with my old 512mb ram desktop

Ah, I see what you mean. I've got too much Canadian in me.
Oh god, My Graphics teacher he continually insists that Bytes and bits are the same thing, It's really annoying. "How big is that flash drive, sir?", "2 Gigabit".
I think we can agree, even if they don't play games well (well I get 50fps on a 9400m), Macs really do look the business and have a p. good build
There's nothing wrong with Macs, people slag anything Apple off as a crap way to define themselves.
Oh thank god someone I can speak to without acting like a mac-hating anti-decision faggot
