Unreliable, can I get that without the text on it? It's much better in color.
I'll do it tomorrow, it's midnight.
Might take some time because I merged the layers together, but i can still get the text off.
Much obliged.
I was at my dads house in November of 08 and noticed that the HDD only had 500Mb left, so I advised him to clean it up (he got remmaried and my stepmom and stepsisters rape the computer with pictures), he says it not his decision and that I should tell my stepmom. I inform her of things she can do and how to keep the photos. I left later that day to go see my oldest sister and spend the night at her house. When I went back to my dads the next day guess what I see in their office. My dad and step family standing around the desk and the new computer.
My reaction
Oh god I hate that shit so much...
Apparently 90% of the labs in the world have it that way. Un-changeable win98 theme on XP. I still don't know why.
Apparently it makes the computer faster, it actually makes it slower from what I've experienced.
Excuse me is this Hardware and Software general chat?
It pretty much is.
So we've got shitty Australian Internet right, from the olden days. Broadband, 10gb cap, no offpeak, etc. For a few years ago, this was fine, but since around 2007 our internet has started to catch up, slowly, ever so slowly, to other countries. National Broadband network will be great. Anyway, we cap every month, around the 15th, resetting on the 24th, just through browsing sites. So I ask my parents what's stopping us from upgrading it:
First reason - Oh, we pay for it with our phone bill so its cheaper!
So I went and got our last bill - $100. $40 for the phone, $60 for the internet.
Look up an ISP, we could switch over our internet service, pay $20 less and have ADSL2+ with a 140gb cap. I tell her this.
But we'd have to buy a new computer!
Uh, no.
But I like our current provider's service!
Our current provider's service has been one of two things - an Indian call center, or a bad-mannered Australian IT guy who doesn't know anything.
My face rocketed into the sun.

It's situations like these that make me glad I live where I do.

Tell your mother to understand that you spend more time with things such as this and are able to make an informed decision on how to save money and get better service.
Oh god, I just got a call from a friend in complete panic. Says his laptop broke while trying to play Crysis. Says it suddenly shut down and now has a burned scent around it. Asked me to come take a look.
This should be good material.

I´d like to keep my equipment in one piece, especially considering the way he sounded on the phone. However, I will try to provide a detailed report on my findings so you can imagine the sight for yourselves.
Also, did I mention his laptop is complete and utter crap to begin with?

From the PC building section:
Well if you have the money to get a high end build you should chose a 480 over a 5970 seeming the 5970 performs only a TINY bit better then the 480 and costs up to 200$ more than it.
And eye candy is what it's all about.

I think he meant that it was sturdier to heat so the fans could run slower (which they don't) so they wouldn't spread the heat (which would spread anyway). he just typed it out badly.
Right, so I just got back from the aforementioned friend's house.
Like I said before, he tried to play Crysis on his old and shitty laptop. That in itself isn't so much of a problem. However, it does turn into a problem when not only does he put the laptop on carpet but also hasn't cleaned his laptop out EVER. Combine that with trying to run it on high settings and you'll get an idea of how hot the damn thing is gonna be.
He got me the manual and asked me to disassemble it to see if I could do anything about the problem. I opened up, took a look inside and proceeded to laugh my ass off before asking if he ever had anything like this happen. Apparently, it did, but not as bad as this time.
It should come as no surprise then that the insides of his laptop......well...suffice to say that there wasn't much left that was identifiable.

Yeah, you got to be careful about that when it comes to laptops. Mine kept shutting off after I would play GTA San Andreas for about 20 minutes. Looked inside and the vent was chock full of crap. Cleared it out, and have had no problems since. And the laptop runs 40 degrees cooler.
I have Blue LEDS, you can't see them very well, but I can't see my case so meh.

It's the 'on' light :downs:
my old alienware gaming laptop's backlight inverter just died. not surprised with all the heat the thing puts out but still, im on vacation and now im forced to use my mom's crappy macbook (1gb of ram is fun) for the last week im here. :(
contributing to the topic, apparently a few people came to this game programming course without having ever used a computer before(mad pokemon yellow skills, amiright). ill leave it up to your imaginations from there.

It's the fact that he's basically killed everything called airflow, and seeing as it's got that green bar, it's probably a prebuilt dell or acer and is already struggling to cool itself.

Me: I am going to switch the Internet plan to Express please.
Rogers Rep: Umm... yeah, we can't do that sir. You can either change it online or by calling this number. (writes it on the Internet brochure)
Me: OK, this plan states that its 10Mpbs. How fast would that be in comparison to mine right now.
Rogers Rep: It would be 10 Megabytes per second.
Me: Isn't Mb, megabit?
Rogers Rep: ... Anyways, you should call this number and change the plan. (switch topic to avoid shame)
Me: Fine
This was yesterday when I ask them to change Internet speed.
