The biggest bottleneck in nearly any computer is the hard drive.
What. If the HDD was a bottleneck, then upgrading to a faster GPU wouldn't do anything at all
Slow ass hard drives are the reason we have RAM.
And why SSDs would be fucking awesome if they were affordable.
What. If the HDD was a bottleneck, then upgrading to a faster GPU wouldn't do anything at all
You know that applications are loaded form the HDD to RAM and then executed. Graphics processing is offloaded to the GPU. The HDD influences read/write time and the time applications and the OS take to load.
And why SSDs would be fucking awesome if they were affordable.
agreed EDIT: that windows user experience index thing rates everything on my computer at a 7 or above, except my HD transfer speed which is at 5 :(

The whole iPhone craze has really shown what you can do to computer illiterate people. I think this video sums it perfectly.
One day my friend had bought hl2 and wanted me to check if it would work on his computer and i did, so I went home for a while.About an hour later i walked into his room, And the first thing i saw was a smashed HDD, i asked what happened and he said "It was making my computer slow!". I nearly facepalmed myself downstairs.
That sounds incredibly fake.
http://www.pcworld.com/article/200512/10_reasons_why_the_pc_is_here_to_stay.html?tk=nl_dnx_h_crawl RAGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Actually, that article is right in my opinion, at least in some ways. Jobs is an idiot to think his ipad will be the future. The reason the pc is still popular over cellphones today is becuase we like computing power more than portability for the most part. When i can fit my desktop in an ipad form factor, guess which one i'll take though? The only reasons we're still tired to desks and laptops are because nobody has made something everyone wants. Apple came close, but aside from the specs being a blowout, a high price, and it not running a full OS, it's almost there. Through a real computer components, a low price, and a nice design (fucking required btw), and you'll have the next fad. Everyone remember the hype before the joojoo and ipad had their specs released? People were acting like they saw jesus walking on water. Once computer companies realize (and can do) that we don't want watered down devices, maybe we'll have a real tablet computer :\.
today's xkcd comic relates to the thread "I once worked on a friend's dad's computer. He had the hard drive divided into eight partitions, C: through H:, with a 'Documents' directory tree on each one. Each new file appeared to be saved to a partition at random. I knew enough not to ask."
I'm in France right now (Auray, google it) surviving off free McDonalds wifi (which uploads faster than my home connection, FML). As a result, there's about 5 people in here with laptops running Windows XP, and all of them had so many popups / nagware / other adware installed that if I had the chance, I would nuke them. Thankfully, my netbook running Ubuntu + Chrome plows onwards beautifully.

He must not know ANYTHING about computers!"

In $/performance I say a clear yes.
You just know they're looking at your screen thinking "Haha, it's so different and stupid!
You just know they're looking at your screen thinking "Haha, it's so different and stupid! At least it's not about what people THINK but what's really happening.
The HTC Evo 4G is amazing even though the 4G part is bullshit.
I love how 1984 all of your schools are. At my school, we have a lan BT tracker for Linux distros and whatever games are being developed atm.
I love how 1984 all of your schools are. At my school, we have a lan BT tracker for Linux distros and whatever games are being developed atm.
my school had a bunch of apple IIs. last I heard they still have them.
My high school library has a 42" plasma TV (probably a nice gov grant to get it since our budget is being cut left and right) that they use it to show Powerpoints about books, that's the only thing they can use it for... :downs: Even better, they recieved about 50 computers from a local business that was replacing them. These computers can probably run TF2 on medium, they're Core 2's running at at least 2.23 Ghz and have Radeon 4xxx series video cards in them (even if they're probably 4550's) and 2 Gigs of ram. And what wonderful task are they putting these well equipped machines to? Using Internet Explorer 6 on our out of date Windows xp pro image to search the library for books...:saddowns:
My school has a bunch of pentium 4 & celeron D computers. They get the job done so no big deal, at least the networking room has dual core & a few quad core pcs.
http://www.facepunch.com/showpost.php?p=23180436&postcount=935 Please tell me people aren't this dumb
It is an unusual way to express it and no one would ever use it. but he's right. it IS 64p On the other side of the coin. all that 720p and 1080p mumbo jumbo is actually what's bullshit. It's 1280x720... 720 doesn't say anything alone...
http://www.facepunch.com/showpost.php?p=23180436&postcount=935 Please tell me people aren't this dumb
That's not really that bad, knowing that isn't definite. just you being an asshole

The point was that it's an image file and unless you've got a progressive/interlaced png then saying 64p isn't correct because p and i normally refer to what's being drawn onscreen.
That's not really that bad, knowing that isn't definite. just you being an asshole
I love you too you're a nice fellow.
One of the computers was stuck booting up, F1 to continue boot or F2 to go to setup utility, so of course I hit F2. Only to find out that our PC's have 256mb of 333Mhz ram and a Pentium 4 at 1.8Ghz. Sexy.
My dad refuses to reformat his 4 year old iMac, the system has never been updated once and is still running on the first installation.
