We have these wonderful computers at my school. Logging in always takes half an hour, and of course we usually only go in the labs when its a substitute, who then tells me I'm not on task while I'm waiting for the computer. Then of course when it finishes and I DO get to work on my assignment, I'm apparently still not on task. I go to the site I'm supposed to, and as I'm looking things up, I'm apparently not looking at what I'm supposed to, so I get chewed out by the substitute. Towards the end of the class period, I've usually started work in MS Word, and instead of typing I'm still being yelled at until Word decides to autosave. Our wonderful computers being what they are, the screen turns bright blue with the oh so recognizable white text. What am I left to do besides turn it off while the teacher continues to yell at me? I hit the power button to turn it back on and just get back to work. It gets just past the DELL screen and then alerts me of a corrupted file system and it can't boot. I get blamed and have to do my assignment at home and turn it in late. This isn't the first computer to not come back after it crashed either. They had to reformat and reimage the computer and move me to the next room over while the rest of the class finished their assignments. The old lady in charge of the lab couldn't figure out that there was anything wrong with it either, I had to talk to someone who knew what they were talking about and I didn't think would die in their sleep of old age in the office chair behind the desk.
My friend had a 470 Fermi, and he went to Microcenter. They told him the GT 240 was better and sold it to him for 200$
My friend had a 470 Fermi, and he went to Microcenter. They told him the GT 240 was better and sold it to him for 200$
Ha that's great.
My friend had a 470 Fermi, and he went to Microcenter. They told him the GT 240 was better and sold it to him for 200$
that's illegal
that's illegal
Oh well.
My high school library has a 42" plasma TV (probably a nice gov grant to get it since our budget is being cut left and right) that they use it to show Powerpoints about books, that's the only thing they can use it for... :downs: Even better, they recieved about 50 computers from a local business that was replacing them. These computers can probably run TF2 on medium, they're Core 2's running at at least 2.23 Ghz and have Radeon 4xxx series video cards in them (even if they're probably 4550's) and 2 Gigs of ram. And what wonderful task are they putting these well equipped machines to? Using Internet Explorer 6 on our out of date Windows xp pro image to search the library for books...:saddowns:
Fucking incredible. They could've just bought some old comps w/ Pentium 4's for under $100 each, but instead they spend thousands of dollars on practically low-end gaming computers?
My friend had a 470 Fermi, and he went to Microcenter. They told him the GT 240 was better and sold it to him for 200$
make him sue them :black101:
Guy over at the steam forums is bitching about how Metro 2033 is 'horribly optimized' because his 9500gt won't run it: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1229377 Read it and weep. Same guy complaining about not being able to run Cryostasis very well. http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1331548 EDIT: Apparently, he decided to 'upgrade' his mobo and CPU with parts that barely give a performance increase.
EDIT: Apparently, he decided to 'upgrade' his mobo and CPU with parts that barely give a performance increase.
Why is it that so many people think replacing parts=upgrade? Of course, I've been guilty of that in the past. When I was 10.

That little motherfucker is making me rage! what is his problem? he needs to upgrade... wow... the evolution of effects in games and the toll they take on a system is now called "bad optimizing"?
Atleast it will handle Portal 2 i am 100% sure, Valve optimizes their games like 5/5
well, get the fuck outta my way! picking up a geforce 3 MX Fastfood Ed. It's much cheaper and i'm sure any game is "optimized" to run on obsolete masses of cobber! fucking tard! I hate those... i want more, it feels good!
My dad refuses to reformat his 4 year old iMac, the system has never been updated once and is still running on the first installation.
you don't usually need to reformat OSX [editline]11:58PM[/editline] also here is one about me today. I just finished building my new computer (not a particularly fast one, it's got an Athlon II X2 and a 8400 GS, I just needed something to replace the aging system in my bedroom). I spent at least 20 minutes trying to figure out why the system wouldn't power up, I had forgotten to flip the power switch on the back of the PSU.

For some reason my computer wasn't powering up when I came back from summer camp. After an hour of looking in my computer, I saw the PSU switch was off. Sadly, that wasn't the problem.
I like how CSS players complain about that the update made the system requirements too high. I mean, even my EeePC 701 could run TF2. Any average computer made after 2005 could run OB engine.

I forgot to plug in the 8-pin processor power plug and spent at least 15 minutes figuring out why it wouldn't boot.
Just read all 21 pages.... great thread. I am a Mac user. I am also a windows user. I prefer OS X for a lot of reasons, but mostly because I never have had a big crash. Well one, but that's why you don't apply a lens blur while rendering video and chatting to someone on skype using all cycles of your 2.26GHz Core 2. I also have an iPhone. Sure, the system is closed but that's why I jailbreak. I might get an HTC phone at some point but I'm too used to the iOS layout, features and keyboard. So please, as said before. We aren't all cunts. I apologise for idiocy of Mac users you know, and I want an apology from all the cunt PC users who refuse to talk to you because of your 'hipster shit'
only you could make a post like this.
He's kinda right. I mean, I use a Mac and i'm not a hipster cunt. ...Right?
He's kinda right. I mean, I use a Mac and i'm not a hipster cunt. ...Right?
I'd love to own a mac but I don't have the money for one and am not a hipster cunt.
My brother used a Mac for 3 years. When it came time to upgrade, he decided on a PC again. I didn't even convince him. I built his PC for him. :v: My cousin also has a Mac. Bought it maybe 1 year ago. Never uses his OS X side and says his next computer will be a PC. He is currently in the process of convincing his sister to not get a Mac. I didn't really influence either much...
Around a year ago, I had a slight illiteracy, I was wondering why my computer would not display anything on the moniter. Turns out I plugged the cable into the motherboard instead of the 4870. :downs: I did the same thing a few weeks later when I was setting up my old computer at a different house.
Oh well.
Sue them and use the money to build a kickass computer.
edit: see the post where the guy got kicked out of starbucks
where is this post
I saw that on and that just pissed me off. Makes me want to go in with my beat up laptop and put dir c:/windows/system32 and drink my coffee while tapping away and see how long it takes to get kicked out and if people really are that dumb
Probably insanely late since it was on the Computer Stupidities page, but it reminded me of the time someone did that at my school.
For a computer programming class, I sat directly across from someone, and our computers were facing away from each other. A few minutes into the class, she got up to leave the room. I reached between our computers and switched the inputs for the keyboards. She came back and started typing and immediately got a distressed look on her face. She called the teacher over and explained that no matter what she typed, nothing would happen. The teacher tried everything. By this time I was hiding behind my monitor and quaking red-faced. I started to type, "Leave me alone!" They both jumped back, silenced. "What the..." the teacher said. I typed, "I said leave me alone!" The kid got real upset. "I didn't do anything to it, I swear!" It was all I could do to keep from laughing out loud. The conversation between them and HAL 2000 went on for an amazing five minutes. * Me: "Don't touch me!" * Her: "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to hit your keys that hard." * Me: "Who do you think you are anyway?!" Etc. Finally, I couldn't contain myself any longer and fell out of my chair laughing. After they had realized what I had done, they both turned beet red. Funny, I never got more than a C- in that class.
when i have so free time, im actually going to go into starbucks(if enough applicable apple users are there) and watch starwars on telnet for lolz. maybe do some tracerts to make them freak out even more. maybe i should record what happens in the background... hmm... [editline]08:52AM[/editline]
So, today in the morning i went down to starbucks since i can drive with a parent now... Our starbucks is pretty big, it was filled with people on apple products (people sitting listening to their ipod, on their macbook, 2 guys came in with ipads and started reading the washington post. So I brought out my dad's 1300s era laptop, it had a Celeron D in it. And I had f12 installed on it, clean, just installed it, i hadn't even done anything to it, just made an account. so i assumed the kernel was out of date. So, I put the background on a space picture, opened terminal and set the settings to what I like (green + 30% transparency). This guy starts looking over my shoulder, and I didn't notice it until he bursts out yelling. But it basically went like this Me: "su sudo yum update <texttoupdate> y" Guy: "OH MY GOD, EVERYONE, WE HAVE A HACKER." Me: "What?" Everyone: "WHAT? OH GOD, ARE OUR COMPUTERS SAFE?" Guy: "Wait, FALSE ALARM. He's on a windows." Everyone: "Oh... phhbt, idiot, using windows." I had an employee come up to me and ask me to leave because he thought i was endangering his business. So I left and gave him a dirty look when i got in the car, my mom was pissed off until i explained on the way back how they're a bunch of illiterates. I fucking hate starbucks and mac users, today was a horrible day anyway. Internet died and I had time warner come out here to tell me I need to upgrade my modem, they made me pay $50 for a new one, i called customer service and they refused to put me on the line with their supervisor, so i gave up
heres the post with the starbucks thing in it for who asked. i dug through way too many pages to find that. :p
*switch keyboards and go HAL on the dumbass
That is one of the best pranks I ever heard. :golfclap:
I just heard two people arguing over whose 9600 was better. I asked them both for the full name, as I was hoping they would have different submodels (GT, GTX, etc.). First guy said "It's an nVidia 9600 GTX." The other guy said "Mine's an ATI 9600 PRO. That means professionals use it, so it's better." I laughed at that guy so fucking hard. For those that can't remember back then (like me) the apparent competitor with ATI's 9600 card was nVidia's 5xxx series (as most of the Google results for "ATI 9600 vs nVidia" come up with a bunch of 5200 and 5700 nVidia models.)
That is one of the best pranks I ever heard. :golfclap:
speaking of HAL, this is probably all old news to most of you, but if you shift all the letters up one it's IBM.
