Computer illiterate people who think they know things V5 = I FLICK PSU VOLTAGE SWITCH
So you fixed a software problem that could have been fixed pretty easily by reformatting or removing the software itself by replacing the whole computer?
Interesting.
Profit, though, I guess :)
You aren't a dick, you took away their inconvenience and managed to get some cash out of it.
The infected computer was an old P4 rig I've been wanting to replace for a long time but I've been too lazy to do it. This just gave me a reason to not have to deal with the horribly slow p4 rig again. The newer pentium D rig is fast enough to play crysis on med-high settings so it should be good for a few years.

Try not to rage, this kid started a comment war on on of my old video's from 2007.
Right. Well anyways, I just thought of another one.
Went to see my cousins, and one of them has a really REALLY old PC and he is allowed to do what he wants on it. (controlling as shit parents won't let him touch the NEW one.) Anyways, he's loaded it up with itunes, Safari, Norton, pretty much everything that slows the thing to a crawl, he has on it. I ask him if he would mind if I closed everything except Norton, the response almost killed my eardrums.
"DON'T DO THAT I WON'T BE ABLE TO GET ANYTHING BACK OPEN AFTERWARDS, YOU'LL DELETE IT, AND MY IPOD WILL BE BROKEN NEXT TIME I PLUG IT IN"
/caps
i wouldn't let him my new pc, either

Jesus, how can he stand his own voice?
B) Do you know the definition of illiterate, in the context of this thread? Just in case you don't (which appears to be the case), it means ignorant. I'm not suggesting he thinks he knows stuff about IT, but he certainly is ignorant if he hasn't heard of USB 3.0 (especially so, considering I can see google results from as far back as 2007).
if that is for real ignorance, this thread is going to get very boring soon.
"lawl, he didn't know about teh Firewire 245"

Yeah, not being technical doesn't mean you're computer illiterate. Hell, I'm still not exactly sure what RAM does.

He uses Norton. D:<
It's not really computer illiteracy in the spirit of the thread but I can't find a better thread for it.
Yesterday my idiot brother (he's 21) managed to infect the livingroom PC with some nasty shit, fake AV's, constant popups and about 20 new processes that all tore a new asshole in the old p4's processing power.
So I dig up my old Pentium D rig and fit it with a new hard-drive which I promptly format and install windows xp on. All about an afternoons work of mostly doing other stuff while things where either formating or installing.
Once everything is set up and working and I explain the situation to my parrents (computer illiterate but they know it), I start discussing payment (I don't get a regular allowance, I get payed according to how much I help around the home) and they offer me $80 for it. I was quite stunned but being the greedy bastard I am I accept with a smile. To them I'm sure it's worth it as they don't know how to do this stuff but eh, I'll just enjoy that new headset I can finally afford to purchase.
I'm a dick aren't I?
They paid less then what they would have had they taken it to a store and got it done faster so no you're not a dick.

So naturally, we start chaining the keyboards. It was going rather well. Until keyboard 50 or so.
Don't ask me how it happened, but one of the keyboards in the chain CAUGHT ON FIRE and began melting.
Heh, I didn't know keyboards had that much resistance; How far was it from the USB port?
But the amount of devices per USB is 127 (you were correct), in a Daisy chain layout.
Yeah, not being technical doesn't mean you're computer illiterate. Hell, I'm still not exactly sure what RAM does.
I do though... all that "128 is actually 127" also makes sence because i already knew 0 to be a value too. what baffles me is that we seem to be required to know about the newest 128GB blu-ray standard or USB 3.0.
I seriously thought USB 3 was some time next year... never seen it here.

If memory serves it was keyboard 5.
I know it was less than 10 because it wasn't all that far from the computer.

Imma kill this kid, I worked my ass off to get camtasia and this kid just tells people how to fucking pirate it!
Seriously, that kid sounds like "whu shu shu shu bwuh i'm 12 bwah".
I feel accomplished. My brother wanted to buy a new laptop for around $700, he wants a somewhat long battery life, a DVD drive and the ability to play games sometimes. So I find him an Asus UL50, which had switchable graphics and a long lasting battery, as well as a DVD drive.
I leave the room and he INSTANTLY goes on the futureshop website and finds an HP that has shitty battery life, Intel graphics and "A cool looking design". This went on for two weeks. FINALLY got him to buy the Asus rather than some laptop he found by looking at pictures.
I had to use a car anaology to change his mind

I commented go to hell. I mean, I'll pirate to try out then delete it and buy it if I like it, that's it.

So, he's pointing out something that is correct and you don't like/believe what he's saying, so he is a dumbass and a "fandboy"
nope, sounds like a fanboy to me.
and you have to admit, opera seems to generate quite a few of those.
