Yup. All the damn time in my school. I just went with it and started flipping the monitors over instead, got funny looks, but it was worth trying to balance the piece of shit monitors :v: Thankfully there weren't CRT.

once the school found out ctrl-alt-down turns the screen upside down, they decided to uninstall intel graphics utility or whatever that thing is. Now all our LCDs are stuck in 1024x768 (they must have uninstalled the drivers fully) and look terrible

Um, this may be an entirely retarded question, but I've never had a class like that or whatever. Why in god's name would someone flip the display, or how would they manage to accidentally do so? I just don't get it.
intel's old graphics drivers allowed you to flip the display by pressing ctrl+alt+down
Everyone in my classes used to do that for shits and giggles, teachers were clueless.

We were told that we were "breaking" the computers and some people got sent to the office over it.
My school also had the Intel graphic drivers that let you flip monitors, when I found out about it, I would just re-flip people's monitors for them when they were upside down. Part of the fun of ruining the fail prank is revealing the "magic" behind it and then everyone thought screen flipping was just dumb.
On a related thought, I'm so glad the teachers in my school are tech literate or at least smart enough to call a tech guy if a real problem comes up. Hearing these horror stories about people being punished out of teacher ignorance is just terrible. The schools here in Wisconsin require teachers to have minor computer proficiency and give them some intro courses for it.
I don't think my computer has a PSU switch, or at least it's covered by my case so I'm safe :D
