I remember on the first day of IT class in middle school the teacher quized us by making us point to where the "word processor" was on the turned-off computers in front of us. Apparently, the computer case and all its insides is the "word processor".
You know, I was writing a huge rent about that kernel panic and how it shouldn't happen ever (I'm not being a fanboy, what I'm trying to say is that they shouldn't get kernel panics when the software and hardware is made by the same people.) After looking at this huge wall of text, I taught: "What am I doing, I'm gonna start Fanboy War VI" Tho, I have to say that it's pretty fail for apple to have their systems get kernel panics. They are under perfect conditions for stability.
as much as this would be true if that was the case... what induced that Panic was the lousy third party program which apple releases no proper tools to compile properly (make sense?) and those tard teachers who haven't formatted in a decade. I don't fucking care what anyone thinks, if you don't format annually, then you lose all rights to baww whenever you experience any sort of hiccup from any system. this used to be a thumb rule untill Filesystems got more stable, but it can still shit with your system. Also, how do people confuse Harddrive, Ram, Cpu and GPU? i knew what all that was and their basic role at 5. Ram= memory, loads programs. Harddrive=where you keep al your stuff. Cpu=does all the shit. GPU= needed for games. if a 5 yearold can solve the puzzle to this degree, then what the fuck is wrong with everyone else in this world? I've got a more accurate sense of it now of course. My father was obviously a better father than many millions others it seems.
One time this girl came up to me and said "I've heard you can build computers." "Yeah, so what? It's not a specia -" "As if you anyone could build a computer. A computer has to be built by a team of professionals." "Well yeah, in a sort of sense. The parts are kind of complex to make. What I mean by 'building a computer' is by buying the primary parts, like the motherboard, power supply, etc. of the computer and putting them together..." "No, no, no. Building a computer is hard to do, period. Way too complex. Leave it to the professionals at Dell and Apple. And why would a power supply be in a computer? That's for generators." "Er..." "If you think you really can build computers, build one for me today and show it to me tomorrow." "Okay, you obviously don't know anything about computers, screw off."
I had a female friend in an IT class back when I was doing GCSEs whow as really surprised when I said I'd built my own computer. She thought building your computer meant like soldering all the billions of transistors together etc.
/offtopic I'm on the verge of converting four more people to PC gaming, just because of the shit I can do in World at War and Garry's Mod. I also have a friend backing me up on this too.

I was talking to this kid today about PC gaming vs PS3 gaming, and how the PS3 has a auto-lockon to help when you shoot. He said bullshit, and said that PC gaming uses autoaim where if you look in the general direction of a person it will lock on. I took the liberty of going to his house for one reason. Got on MW2, aimed the ak-47 in one direction and he inched into the scene, i did a lockon and it aimed directly at his body. he then said "oh, that's just the controller"
After reading all these stories, I'm glad that I have tech literate parents. I think I have them, because of all the times I deleted Win32 when I was 5 and 6 (I did it twice, don't blame me, I was 5). My dad has a Mac. He's tech literate, and the only reason he bought it was because he didn't want a fiddly operating system (after a bad experience with a HP). So, respect.
Now how would the OS be related to HP. Of course HP puts Windows on their boxes but they're not to blame. He could have had a shitty experience with HP software or printers or... I don't know customer service.
This thread seems to be a bunch of people trying to feel good about themselves for making non computer literate people feel stupid. Not everyone's post, but most of them. Some of the posts are actually funny, but some of you guys are just acting like douche bags. You know about computers? Wow, that doesn't exactly make you cool. I know about computers and I could be making fun of some of the dumb things my friends do, but no, I help them.

Like I said, some of them are funny, but some people are getting some sense of self importance and superiority for just being douchebags.
You know about computers? Wow, that doesn't exactly make you cool. I know about computers and I could be making fun of some of the dumb things my friends do, but no, I help them.
the thing is that society is pressured into using technology further and further and if you're not well-versed in the knowledge of using computers and other devices, you're disadvantaging yourself and resisting against the future and there's also the case of people who think they know so much about computers but don't. besides, we all have our illiteracies and it annoys people i might've made a dumb comment about, say, soccer once and that would've pissed someone who's an actual soccer fan hell i bet there's threads like these for other subjects on other forums

Just saying, some people seem to get a sense of self superiority from just being generally mean. I understand funny stories, but some people aren't being funny at all. Just my 2 cents.

The thread is supposed to be about computer illiterate people who think they know things (title :downs:), but most people seem to just post about computer illiterate people who admit they don't know things and for those people I agree with your statement.
One time, my sister (one of my THREE sisters (oh god...)) yelled at me when I had my console open in HL1. She went and told our mom that I was "loading" stuff. It was over a year prior to that I was told by my mom not to download anything without checking the source first. She got in trouble for being the prick she still is today. (it also led to her arguing with my mom until she kicked her out for a few days.)

I'm sure that if you were to look at really old PC manuals they'd be called word processors in them. (Though that's quite a lot of years back)

Then explain how the word processor runs on the PC, but isn't the PC itself.

Earlier this year the printer in my shop class stopped working for some reason, after a few days of trying to figure it out, the IT guy at my school said that we had to get a new printer for that room. My friend who is also pretty good with computers tried to fix it himself. After turning the printer off and back on it worked perfectly. Once the IT guy found out he wanted to get my friend suspended for 'fiddling' with the printer. My friend would have if it wasn't for my awsome shop teacher taking the blame for him.

I just heard someone on Garry's Mod say "My CPU is cooled with Nitrogen" and I started choking on my drink
Pretty much everyone's CPU is cooled with nitrogen. Someone tell me you see the :science:

If there is a serious issue they take the computer to the people that deal with our network, but there are no designated computer repairmen. Generally the teachers just ask the students to fix it. For example, when the printer in my shop classed died I was given the task of fixing it. [editline]10:06PM[/editline] Oh man I just remembered I can ignore people's posts. So good for this thread.
