Computer illiterate people who think they know things V5 = I FLICK PSU VOLTAGE SWITCH

I was on Tagged.com's chatroom. Some guy threatened to hack me. I asked if he could find out my IP address.
He said "This guy wants to know my address."
:geno:
Can I drop some smartphone illiterate folk what think they know stuff? Too bad, I'm going to anyway.
My little brother was shopping for a phone, and asked if I'd come with him. So we went to a Radio Shack, found a model he liked, and I, in my colossal fucking stupidity, said "But wait! Surely yon Walmart would offer this popular model for significantly less coin!" Which they did. Along with a middleaged, methhead, pony-tailed piece of scum. The attempted purchase went pretty similar to the following:
Me: "Hey, dude, we'd like to buy a Nokia whatevermodel."
Methhead: "Okay. Can I see your current phone, along with blah blah stuff about your current plan or buying a new one blah blah blah."
Me: "No. We just want the phone, we're not doing anything with our existing AT&T plans nor purchasing one."
Methhead: "Then I still need your information so I can call AT&T and set you up."
Me: "Is that a company policy or something?"
Methhead: "No, just something we do."
Little brother: "Okay. Look, we're just gonna switch the SIM cards, so you don't need to do that. We'll 'set it up' ourselves."
Methhead: "No. You need to set up the phone with AT&T before it'll work."
Me: "Actually, all you need to do is switch SIM cards in most instances. We've done it before. Hell, I'll show you."
Methhead: "You mean to tell me, if you switched cards with me right now, and we called my phone, your phone would ring?"
Me: "Yes. Open 'er up, I'll prove it."
Methhead: "Bullshit. Besides, we've got to call AT&T for accountability reasons. There are folks smuggling phones between here and Canada, and we're cracking down on illegal trafficking."
Me: "So it is a company policy."
Methhead: "No."
Little brother: "Let's just buy the damn thing at Radio Shack."
Methhead: "Hey, it's a free country, you can think what you want. Doesn't make you right."
Irony. And why haven't I heard anything about this Canadian phone trafficking blight? It sounds serious.
Also, to make it more directly relevant, I recently had to deal with a Best Buy employee insisting that you could, through use of cable splicing, make a capture card. He was actually attempting to sell me HDMI and Firewire cables, no other devices, and claiming that the two alone could be spliced and achieve the same effect.
I am never going back to that store again.
A BB salesman kept harping on about macs to me when I went to buy a pc. (Due to not being able to order it all through newegg.) .
I want to work at one of those stores and just tell the truth.
Oh wait.
I was really bored one day, back in like 2007. I had a shitty computer that couldn't play any game from after 2006, and had trouble on games from 2004. The PC was from ~2002. I had a paperclip, bent in the usual fashion to be able to force open a CD drive. On the front of the computer, there were 4 USB ports. 2 were plugged in, 2 weren't. Amid my boredom, I stuck the paperclip in what were obviously the unplugged ones. I then stuck it in one of the live ports, and the computer shut down. I was rather worried, as I couldn't get a replacement at the time, and it wouldn't turn on. After I unplugged it, it worked. For about a year after that, every time I'd plug a device into a USB port while the PC was on, it would turn off, and I'd need to unplug it before it would start again. It had perpetual USB problems after that, and that Motherboard never worked stably again.
This is probably the stupidest thing I've ever done to a computer.
I too have done this, and I too had similiar results.
Rated heart because I've been through the same as you.
Ye I never really thought about this but adding OpenGL support to Valve games opens the game to nearly everything, Hope to have an android version soon.

lol I was going to post that, but was distracted with something else and have forgotten about it.
Could someone tell me how more than one core works? I used to think it was like '2 cores = 2 x 2.3ghz = 4.6ghz'
But you make me think different.

Processor's layout, bus interface and l2 cache remains same, but each core have it's own transistors and l1 cache which is really good for multiprocessing.

I don't think that's really telling him how it works :v:
Basically it's like having a dual-carriageway (are you american? do they have those in america?)
You can have two cars going down it at the same speed. Just because there is two cars, doesn't make them run faster, but they CAN carry more people (equivalent to running programs or whatever)

You want your computer to do 2+2, but at the same time do 5+5
Your computer has 1 core, or the program making these calculation doesn't support multiple cores, and so the calculations are put into a line, 2+2 first and then 5+5 afterwards.
A different scenario, you're on a computer with a dual core (2 cores), you want to do 2+2 and at the same time 5+5, and the program doing these calculations supports multiple cores.
One core is set to do 2+2, while the other core is set to do 5+5. This way one doesn't have to wait for the other, and so it gets things done faster.

I think this is the only proper usage I've ever seen of that smilie. :monocle:
Imagine a horse drawn carriage. Say you have 2 fast horses, and 4 slower horses, the 2 horses will get there faster, whereas the 4 horses can do more.

Never said it was bad. Just felt like doing that.
the apng permabans piss me off a bit. some people just use them as their avatars and then get perma'd without knowing its an exploit, its not like its their fault opera cant handle it. tbh people should just stop whining or disable animations if they crash, and wait till the opera guys fix it.

That doesn't even make sense, and isn't a good explanation of dual cores.

He knew it crashed opera.
That doesn't even make sense, and isn't a good explanation of dual cores.
If you don't understand it then you are stupid. Its the same as the other explanation a few posts back.
If you don't understand it then you are stupid. Its the same as the other explanation a few posts back.
No, no it's not the same. The last one also filtered in how programs use multiple cores. And if the last one was just as good why post another one?
Because I didn't see it.
He knew it crashed opera.
yep he did. its not right though, its opera's fault it is crashed by the images. if ive been hearing right, its caused by apngs of a certain framerate or something. if thats the case then people crashed should just be told to disable animations and stop whining vs banning an image format of a certain refresh rate.
just my opinion anyway, permabans are pretty harsh.

I happen to like my animations. So I'm not doing anything.
Plus, why should people give up a feature of their web browser just because one person wants to be a dick?
Plus, why should people give up a feature of their web browser just because one person wants to be a dick?
well thats the thing, it doesnt seem like a case of one person being a dick, its opera simply not being able to handle images of a certain framerate. if im wrong, someone tell me, but it is just a case of APNGs with a framrate over a number right?
well thats the thing, it doesnt seem like a case of one person being a dick, its opera simply not being able to handle images of a certain framerate. if im wrong, someone tell me, but it is just a case of APNGs with a framrate over a number right?
That's correct.

No, your explanation is isn't the same, or accurate.
what are these apng permabans I'm hearing about in this thread?
I haven't seen one.
