I was walking through Future Shop with my friends, when we ended up at the video cards section.
A woman was there, talking to an assistant about her video card. Apparently, her video card was broken because the colors on her monitor weren't as bright as it was last week.
She pointed randomly at a 5850 that was on the shelf and asked if that would work for her games.
The assistant replied, asking what kind of games she played. She replied, Sims 2. The assistant told her that it was perfect. She bought it.

technically, that is a correct response--granted, it is overkill.
Speaking of Future Shop, my buddy is probably going to work there. The thing is, he doesn't care at all about computers and specifics and all that stuff. He's not an idiot, he dimply doesn't know much because he doesn't care. Still, he's obviously not qualified enough to assist anyone with any purchase.
I wonder how he's going to do.
Friend: will steam hack me on wow
Friend: cus i added it to steam
Friend: and if they hack me
Friend: i will be like
Friend: fffuuu
Me: no.. you wont be hacked.
Friend: k
Me: putting it on steam and launching it through steam is just like launching it normally but you have the overlay (shift+tab) in your game to talk to people

he's going to perform just like every other retail computer shop monkey

Do they get commission at Future Shop? Because if I was the salesperson I'd have done that as well.
what are these apng permabans I'm hearing about in this thread?
I haven't seen one.
A friend of mine's Steam profile:

Intel Core 2 Quad 2.4ghz (overclocked to 3.5ghz)
4GB RAM
3TB Hard-drive
Dual Nvidia Geforce 8800GT 512mb Graphics Cards

Laptop:
Alienware m15x-
i3 Proccesor

... dunno the rest of the specs, it's for working on, not gaming on.

Disaster averted, I was able to get my dad to not install Norton when we switched to Qwest. We're running on MSE right now.

2% commission. At the one near me some dude made $400 in one day on computer sales commissions.

That's actually (sadly?) a pretty good job for a salesman. Milking money out of people who don't know what they are going to buy, giving them the most expensive choice, tricking them into thinking that's the right one for them.
A bit douchebaggy, but effective. Should at least make people think about their fucking choices.

I think it's perfectly justified. perhaps not permas, but still. animated avatars should be limited in my opinion. they're really quite irritating, especially when everyone's got one.
imo any apng should be a ban
2% commission. At the one near me some dude made $400 in one day on computer sales commissions.
you mean 20%? 2% is absolutely nothing. You'd make $8 on a $400 sale.

20% would also be ridiculous, $500 sales could turn into $100 for that employee, and considering how many people go into computer megastores like that, they could make $1000 in a single day.

hardly anyone goes into stores like that, but I see what you mean

What's all this ranting about APNG's?

Forgive me for not realizing what's supposed to be funny. Nothing seems to be that impossible with it. The overclock is a bit high, but a good cooling system could handle it. Or is it that he buys the overpriced brands?

I had a hearty laugh when I got to that line.

That part. I try to tell him not to get it.
Apparently his parents get some work tax credit or some shit.

Then it's not really computer illiteracy so much as making bad financial decisions.
you mean 20%? 2% is absolutely nothing. You'd make $8 on a $400 sale.
Precisely. It's a small commission, and he made $400 in a day on that small of a commission. It means he sold a shitton of expensive computers.
I think this is the only proper usage I've ever seen of that smilie. :monocle:
I think it was actually used properly for the first time in history a few pages/versions back, IN THIS VERY THREAD

If I recall, it was used with the same analogy too.

my apng is not closing my opera.
I'm using Chrome, so I see no APNG's anyway.
