Then why did he even post thinking it wasn't that he got a pirated copy. Its still illiteracy.

Anonymous: WHERE I PUT IT
Vince: It's a video file, you just watch it...
Anonymous: DESKTP?
Vince: You can open it directly from the zip file.
Anonymous: UH
Anonymous: WHAT YOU SAY

Vince: Yes, the desktop will do...

Everyone in my household other than myself think a mouse will work if it isn't plugged in.
My grandad thinks that if you cut the wire off of a mouse its a wireless mouse
Pepper;23876163']My grandad thinks that if you cut the wire off of a mouse its a wireless mouse
Well, technically he'd be right..... now if he expected it to still work then there is a slight issue :v:
I have 2 000 000 000 000 Bytes on my Raid0 Drive.

Or 160 000 000 000 000 letter :downs:
This idiot in TF2 was lagging like crazy, so i asked him what his download/upload rate was in mb/s. He said he didn't know, so after that he said:
Idiot:Maybe It's my monitor, it's very old. :downs:
Ugh

-_- Makes me want to punch his face.
Found this in Gamestop while looking at the system requirements of Mirror's Edge:
PROCESSOR: 3.0ghz or higher
Oh no, my i5 @ 2.66ghz won't be able to play it! :(
It should also tell you what specific processor that clock speed should go with...

Maybe if you're lucky, I won't stick this laptop up your arse.
good it guys in a business sense fix it at a horrible price and don't tell them how so they come crawling back later
We're talking family and smalltime jobs here. Besides, you get a better name if you "fixed" it permanently... teaching them will either make them think that you did or at least they will know that you can teach them things.
Bussiness sense isn't ALL money. if your service is almost exploitive (is that even a word?), you get called Fucktivision and Bobby Cowdick.
But, you've got a valid point. Strike a balance, or you won't have food on the table. Reality is a bitch if you want to provide perfect service... unfortunately.
Right, this might work if you've got 1 or 2 people to support in your own home when you have plenty of free time and you've written enough documentation to cover all eventualities. I've actually produced little guides to most of the stuff my family want to do in pdf form which they can print out and stick by their computer. Sutff like changing font size, emailing people, saving bookmarks etc, it's something I've added to as people have asked for it over the past few years.
I once had to walk my father through a completely fresh install of windows xp over the phone because he'd hosed his machine to such an extent that it wouldn't even boot. It took most of the day to complete with breaks in between before it got to the point I could do the rest remotely. This is not something I'm ever going to do again, because I don't have the time or desire to do so.
If you're honest with yourself, you'd realise that computers are simply too complicated for most folk, which is precisely why a limited account is a more suitable alternative. Before in xp, most applications simply did not work without admin access. Now in vista and 7, this is not the case, 7 is like a dream come true for me.
So yeah, you can now call me pathetic if you want to, but I do not have the resources, nor the inclination to support all those people if they had full admin access to their machine.
In fact I made it pretty clear to all of them, that if they wanted admin access to do what they liked that was fine, but if they trashed their install, they can fucking wait for the next few months before I get their to fix it. None of them have wanted admin access and since windows 7 was released, I haven't had a problem with any of them.
Sounds like you lost a lot of battles. that's NOT pathetic and i would be a motherfucker to say that since i've never faced such thickskulled refusal to learn myself.
People just "panic" and refuse to learn. I'm straightforward here and i'm going to say that it's fucking idiotic. but there's nothing to do about it for many reasons. Do they even need to learn? Did we not react the same way in some of the more advanced Math and Science classes? "I don't get this. get it away from me. it's too complicated"
There's not much to do at that point. it's built in human nature at it's most annoying. I hardly ever experience this. but often I know that if they just cooled off and took a better look at it, they'd comprehend it eventually.
What I said was that there's a difference between having tried and lost or going in fixing it and going out without uttering a word. sometimes, the latter is the only thing left to do after trying too many times.
And as far as i see it, you've already done a lot to help them that actually works. I'd say you've done more than many would do. maybe because it's family.
Maybe if you're lucky, I won't stick this laptop up your arse.
Is that an IT Joke?
no really computer illiterate (maybe a little) But I was dicking around in class, And I noticed that a computer that someone was using was actually a moniter+keyboard hooked up to a laptop, so I took the laptop and started opening other tabs, and spinning around the cursor, the guy spazzs out, and a teacher comes by, says it might be a virus, and turns the comp of.
I also managed to trick someone into notepad bombing himself "write
@echo
startmenu
start notepad
goto menu (something like that)
It'll make your computer go faster! :downs:" Yes wall of text, and yes I was being an asshole

That's all it said, I shit you not.
One of my friends on Steam said that he could over-clock his processor by cutting open one of the power cables from the psu and somehow wiring it to the spacing between the processor and the motherboard so it would get more electricity so it could work faster. Something tells me he wasn't fucking around because he's been offline for almost 2 days.

You are technically right, my box infront of my says "3.0GHz or faster" and underneath it says "Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent."

Today I was at the computer fair (Tradition for me) and well, these things are full of illiterates wanting new PC's. One time this parent picked up a "PS/2 to USB" Adapter plug to look at and showed her "Genius" son. His response was... Sad. "It's for connecting your ps2 controllers to your pc, Lol you noob!"
His words exactly.
I might post some more, There was tons today. It's a comedy goldmine there.
I also picked up another 2gb stick of ram, 4gb of ram finally!
[editline]03:08PM[/editline]
Got another story from today. A guy bought a new 24'' LED Monitor because the last one was screwing up. I'm not gonna post his fucked up explanation but. It was because games were artifacting... I wish I could see his face when it still happened on his brand new monitor.
fucking ps/2 not ps2 u dimiwit

Oh you. Don't worry. Their should be another one on next month. So expect some new ones then. I'll try to remember some more from previous experiences.
The ones that charge old people £150 for a £20 hard drive and then add the rest for a new install of windows....
