Windows is for people who want Windows, Macs are for people who want Macs.
Fixed.
windows is for developers, macs are for people that don't know how to use computers.
2 Things: -Because of it's open nature and because it was made by developer for developer Linux is more Dev friendly. -Developers or going to develop on popular platforms. That is why a lot of people develop for windows. Because it's the popular one. Not because microsoft made it so easy for developers.
Mac os is good Windows is good Linux is good There you have it
Mac os is good Windows is good Linux is good There you have it
i like computers. can i get some agrees up in here?
Another OS argument... This thread in specific must have had three already.
My father just couldn't figure out how to move the cursor in Notepad. :sigh: [editline]01:52AM[/editline]
all computers are shit. in fact, all these companies want to do is make money, isnt that terrible? in fact, i think everything sucks and the univers should DIAF /imitation of average youtube commenter [editline]09:13PM[/editline] [editline]09:14PM[/editline] without competition nobody would move forward. in fact, i wish there was a third major os (besides linux, one that is made by a money money business)
That image is very inaccurate. The PC pictured in the upper left-hand corner is so old it probably lacks a maths coprocessor, and the Linux kernel requires a maths coprocessor in order to run.
Fixed.
Agree, besides, I've used all three. And the fact is that, Mac is good, Windows is good, Linux is good. And that's my opinion on this whole OS flame war. Use the OS before judging it. But as I'm more used to Windows so is that my first choice, note that it's because I'M USED TO IT, not for the features, but that it's what I've grown up with. Else I could do pretty much the same things with Linux and Wine, and if I just had a mac, I could have saved lots of money on games I don't even play now a days besides pretty much just Blizzards games that are multi OS. So use the OS before judging it! :argh:
Mac="ohhhh shiiiiiinnnnyyyy"=for Retards. Windows="It's has real functions and I can do more than make movies with it!"=Real people/computer developers Linux="I is makin' mah own OS!"=Asshats who think their cool with their open source OS. I won't snip. This is my opinion on OS's. (Truth is I think macs aren't all that bad)
how about this: mac= it does what I want it to do windows= it does what I want it to do linux= it does what I want it to do Some people have real reasons to own mac and/or linux based systems. As a programmer, Linux makes things easy for me by keeping different programming tools readily available. If I need something, say the BZ2 libraries, one command in the terminal will get them, install them, and configure them for me. If I need the same libraries on Windows, I have to go to the website, download the binaries, mash enter through the installer, and hope I downloaded the right one. Same goes with OS X, but for different reasons. really the only thing you can do on Windows that you can't do on Mac or Linux is play a handful of games, and that will probably change soon since Steam is on mac now and is supposed to come out for Linux soon.
And don't say OS X is for stupid people, I write most of my code nowadays with it. That's just a stupid stereotype. Same thing for linux, there are people out there who use it and are not computer geniuses.
I would love it if someone created an OS that's perfectly stable, is able to look like any OS currently out, and can run any program meant for any OS. A guy can dream.
that's not too far fetched, if you look at projects like ReactOS [editline]02:05AM[/editline] oh and one other thing, I have a lot of closed-source software on my Linux computer.
how about this: mac= it does what I want it to do windows= it does what I want it to do linux= it does what I want it to do Some people have real reasons to own mac and/or linux based systems. Sucks, I mean yeah it's the best out of the free software but Hell, I use 3DS Max, There is no way Wine can run it like windows does, same goes for Mac, But hell. If I ever want a superior Photoshop interface or music work I'll goto Mac, If I ever need to fix a problem because, say windows is fucked up or need to trouble shoot a few things I'll use a linux live CD, Or maybe even partition I'll use a linux live CD. Everything has a different use and each has it's pro's and cons. It's all up the user to decide what one they like, But there still will be elitist fags who have no reason why they use their OS, Usually because they just wanna be "Rebel". [editline]12:29PM[/editline] Also linux is good for idiot. Create 2 accounts, one passworded admin and the other a limited user, install firefox/opera open office/wine with MS Office and hell there you go. No virus's can't fuck shit up and well. Just a generally simple OS (Assuming you are using a linux distro with KDE or gnome or another GUI).
I don't know, I've got Photoshop CS2 installed in Wine, it runs just as good, if not better than on Windows.
Well Linux is superior within Dedicated servers and Webhosting because it's easy to setup and configure. And that you can remotely control a lot of virtual servers with one account via, lets say Putty. Also that like ButtsexV2 sad, one line in Linux and software is installed. And many webhosts choose Linux before Windows because Linux is a free OS that also have many more variants than the Mac and Windows versions together. And because mostly all Linux distros are free and Open Source, so can the Webhosting companies may alter the OS for their needs and use. Windows is superior within the normal PC user community and gamers. As almost 90% of the PC games are Windows exclusive (And no PC =/= Windows, Mac is a PC too, as PC stands for Personal Computer not Personal Windows Computer) And I think that most companies should stop with that a PC = Windows as it isn't the same things. And I can also understand many companies using Windows as it's very often shipped with the computers the company buys. And because the OS is with the computer, they also use programs for said OS. Instead of buying a Windows computer, just to install Linux on it and make a webserver out of it. So they can instead take advantage of preinstalled programs on the computer and also because Windows is so popular amongst companies that they buy and use software exclusive for Windows. Mac is superior within the artist sector because of good support for photoshop etc. And yes they might be overpriced by the view of someone used with Windows based PC's, as the parts are cheaper then because there are several different manufacturers making the same pieces. While with a mac, mostly all the pieces are made by Apple and Intel which means that it doesn't allow for much modding the hardware. But then, when buying a mac you bet the PC as a All in One PC instead of a tower and monitor taking much space, so isn't the Mac all in one PC taking much more than the screen. And with all this said I just don't hope I start anymore flamewars, but that I make the statements more clear for everyone what you mainly use a Mac, Windows and Linux PC for and their main uses. And you can complain for spelling error's etc. as it's 5 in the morning in Sweden when I type this.
I don't know, I've got Photoshop CS2 installed in Wine, it runs just as good, if not better than on Windows.
I Wasn't saying anything about photoshop on wine I said 3DS Max.
I know, I'm just saying that some software runs great in Wine.
If I ever want ... music work I'll goto Mac
The industry standard OS for music production these days is "not Linux." All the best DAWs are available on XP/Vista/7 and OSX. Excluding Logic on OSX and the Adobe/Sony stuff, which are both pretty meh and do stuff other DAWs do better.
i never understood how art/music on mac is better than windows [editline]03:31AM[/editline] does simply using a mac make you magically better at art/music or something
i never understood how art/music on mac is better than windows [editline]03:31AM[/editline] does simply using a mac make you magically better at art/music or something
there are some better tools available, other than that, nothing really
Better tools? I've used a mac for 3D stuff and I found maya crashed a lot more on the mac compared to my pc at home. No clue why but it was pretty annoying.

I just hooked up my other monitor to my laptop and my mom walked in looked at it and said, "When did you buy a new computer?" I feel so ashamed to be related to illiterates.
I just saw some shit early morning tech news thingy on BBC1. A woman was patronizingly discussing an app for iPhone that lets you view the national museum's exhibits while not in it. She said "virtual reality layers can be used to make a much more realistic enviroment and you can view it on the go. much better than viewing a painting hanging on a wall in some stuffy museum" I hope we revert to the 1900s. Idiocy is too ripe nowadays.

That shits just awesome. [editline]02:13PM[/editline]
I just saw some shit early morning tech news thingy on BBC1.
windows is for developers, macs are for people that don't know how to use computers.
Macs are for people who know nothing about computers, and in some cases, artists. Windows is for gamers, regular people and pretty much everyone else. Linux is for programmers and people who know what they're doing. At least, that's the way I see it. I have a Windows computer, and I have been using Windows since Win98 I think, and I have a Linux computer, but I've never used anything but Ubuntu, and I only use it for web browsing and the like. I've never used a Mac outside of using my Grandma's old, slow Mac for web browsing.
really the only thing you can do on Windows that you can't do on Mac or Linux is play a handful of games, and that will probably change soon since Steam is on mac now and is supposed to come out for Linux soon.
If Steam comes to Linux, I might just start dual booting on my gaming computer. I really like Ubuntu and how customizable it is. Plus it seems to use less resources than Windows (At least, compared to XP on my old computer) so the main thing that kept me from putting Ubuntu on that computer was program compatibility.
I should totally make a case fan with this motor: [img_thumb]http://imgkk.com/i/me5c.jpg[/img_thumb] that's 115V at 5.5 amps, a whopping 632 watts. 1/4HP and 1725 RPM, shit would be pretty intense, and a little useless and probably wind up driving my power bill through the roof. I would then proceed to make a thread about it

Linux isn't for programmers, it is for anyone who wants complete control over their system. Biiiiiiiiiigggggg linux stereotype there.
i never understood how art/music on mac is better than windows [editline]03:31AM[/editline] does simply using a mac make you magically better at art/music or something
Part of it is the hardware solution. You can take a guitarist who knows jack shit about computers, give him an iMac, Logic Express and an Apogee Duet and he'll have a decent home studio setup in no time. Toss a producer who's bad with computers a Mac Pro, Logic Studio and an Apogee Symphony, and they're set for almost everything they'd need a computer for in context.
there are some better tools available
I don't know how it is for video or graphic design, but in audio, shit's equal. If anything, Macs are slightly worse off. As far as just the operating systems go, they're perfectly level, aside from some exclusive DAWs nobody needs. Where the actual hardware is concerned, a Mac is a wee bit gimped. Let's say you wanted a setup like this: machine with a regular soundcard, a UAD card, a couple external audio interfaces, a Digidesign 192 I/O to HD 3 Accel combo, and a second slave computer running VE Pro/Gigastudio. OSX and Windows can both handle all that, no problems with either OS. The machine I'd build to do it would work fine with either. But modding an actual Mac to take all that gibberish would be impossible.
I'm learning first hand how hard backing shit up before re-formating really is. Like proper formatting not just formatting C:\ and leave all your other partitions. Shit. I have a lot of fucking crap.
Send it to me and I'll work on making a heat sink out of it. Then I'll push my q6600 to 4ghz.
Only 4ghz? Pfffttt...
