their opinions are wrong opinions so i'm putting their names up
because when an old favorite like slackware dies it will be replaced by another distro

I would say that RHEL is just as much Linux as anything else. You can download all the source code for RHEL for free. ftp://ftp.redhat.com/
You're only paying for support, but everything else is as "Linux" as it gets.
Fuck it, I don't care about the boxes but,
I am with Microsoft.
Rate away asswipes.

In what way are you with ms?
You agree with what he said or you prefer windows?
If it's the first, you're dumb, because linux won't die, not soon atleast.

Well, I certainly don't agree with what the Russian president said about it, but trust me Linux will die soon, not within the next decade though. So I really prefer Windows.

1+ decade =/= soon
also if linux dies there's still OpenBSD and Solaris and the kernel files are open source so some diehard will pick up the kernel and build another distro
aka stop talking you stain on the world

Chances are windows will die first.
Linux is blooming, especially lately. More and more programs and games go on linux and osx.

Oh man, this.
I have Arch on a second drive, but I don't feel like using it because WINE and PlayOnLinux is horrible.

Not addressing you, I'm talking to the dude who has no idea what linux is obviously
My apologies, I do know what linux is, however been a while since I heard of any distro but Ubuntu or Gentoo, Kind of forgot they were names of linux ones and assumed was BSD based :-S

RH == Fedora.
Fedora is basically a sandbox for RH. Fedora release cycles are generally 6-8 months, and when the codebase is considered "stable", it gets rolled into RH as a new version. Fedora is probably better than RH in that if a bug is found, it's fixed quickly, while in RH you either have to wait for x years or fix the problem yourself that can quickly snafu.

Your misunderstanding of 'true Linux' stuns me. Linux is an operating system made from GNU software and the Linux kernel. It has nothing to do with price*, community or anything.
*Free as in free beer means price. Free as in free speech means the ability to modify it and keep your freedoms.

And have a whole 6/7 games to play from a possible library of 50+ games? Sounds like a good use of money. Steam being ported to Linux would not make every major developer or published developer on Steam move to it instantly. They will still use Windows as their development platform due to the way MS treat DirectX/ OGL. You'd see valve and some other smaller devs move over obviously, but a lot of the major devs for mainstream games probably won't.
I would probably have more incentive to use Linux more often if Steam was on it though, don't get me wrong.

true linux is anything that uses the Linux kernel. it doesn't need GNU software. GNU/Linux needs gnu software

not gonna lie most mainstream devs suck. you'll still see some larger devs moving though, just not activision/ea/etc.

L4D and hl2 series moving natively to linux would be enough for me.

I don't think that's what he meant by Linux.
L4D and hl2 series moving natively to linux would be enough for me.
True. Just HL2 and TF2 would keep me occupied while other respectable developers started to produce games. So long as mods work really.
Linux probably isn't going to die, as it's always going to continue having that relatively small community behind it since there's no other real open-source alternative.
But it will always remain a pretty relatively dead platform. Meaning not many developers give a shit about Linux. Even Mac got Steam and Linux is still left in the cold. It's just not a practical OS for the average user that expects their computer to work out of the box. Anyway, that's my opinion about it

What do you mean developers don't give a shit about Linux? Any developer that isn't a game developer or some other crapware developer cares about Linux.

Eh. OpenOffice is pretty decent but it's shit and chips compared to MS Office. Not saying that to be against the whole open movement or whatever, but Office 2007/2010 is currently (and will be for a long time) the best productivity suite by far.
Just wait until the folks at ReactOS sort out the web browser issues and install problems with Steam (check out their forums), and you'll see big, HUGE amounts of gamer communities dumping W*ndöws in no-time...

reactOS? I doubt that. it's too underground first off, and second it's genuinely terrible

Because otherwise they would get less sales.
Because otherwise they would get less sales.
Only indie devs get less sales when they stick to one platform? What.
