well, GIMP should run faster so you can draw furry porn more efficiently.
I don't even use gimp, I heard it is good but the GUI is so confusing.
I have two computers. My desktop computer has windows in it. It has nothing else in it but games. Not even music. I do everything else on my laptop which is running newest version of Ubuntu. IMO M$ can suck balls. right click on layer, add transparency, delete everything out of that layer, TADAA! Seriously, I have been using GIMP since I was 10.

For deleting the layer I mean. Then add another layer with transparency. I prefer paint.net, it has a lot less confusing GUI and the work I do in GIMP takes half the time in paint.net. But we derailed this thread a bit now didn't we?
I don't see any OS dying in the near future well apart from OpenSolaris
No problem, GIMP defaultly makes the background layer the secondary colour you have chosen in the colour mixer, E.G white for fresh installs.
I know you probably can't but back that up with some facts.
yes because we need facts to back up opinions now? [editline]21st November 2010[/editline] if you can't deal with the fact that some people like different things to you then that's your problem I see no reason why linux and windows users cannot peacefully co-exist
Windows is for the normal average user that doesn't need anything but a system running out of the box. But as soon as one wants to get more out of his computer, one should use Linux.
There is no logic to it at all, I was going to try to make an image in gimp and I want the bottom layer to be transparent, so I select it and press DEL nothing happens, ctrl + x doesn't even do anything.
They totally hide it! More a problem of attention span and or willingness to learn new things then a GUI problem. (Hint it has a detail user manual)
Boxes everywhere! But mine post was skipped:golfclap:
I still prefer paint.net, it works for me.
Now you're being ridiculous. I use paint.net each and every day, but you're being stubborn.
Now you're being ridiculous. I use paint.net each and every day, but you're being stubborn.
if it works for him, why should he change
I rated OP dumb, and with the dumb I mean not the OP himself, but the guy he is quoting. Linux isn't anywhere near dying. This is exactly like the DarkRP haters. Last year they all said DarkRP was going to die. In the end you can't really predict whether software is going to die. But Linux isn't anywhere near dying. With android taking over the market (based on modified Linux), most devices running some adapted Linux kernel, most servers running Linux and the Linux Desktop market growing. How could Linux be dying? Clearly either the quote is untrue (unlikely) or the Russian president of Microsoft is really fucking ignorant or he deliberately said it to advertise Windows products. "We must bear in mind that Linux is not a Russian OS..." Note he is using this as an argument not to use Linux. Because it isn't a fucking Russian OS. It probably partially is though, people from around the world contribute to it. Nevertheless the argument doesn't make sense and is plain stupid. It implies this person doesn't know what he's talking about.
Im only using Windows because nearly everything I use is windows based and my computer is not good enough to tun things through WINE. I mean seriously.
Ok, let's imagine Linux just magically disappeared from the world. Whops, lost internet connectivity? Most connectivity hardware such as routers and modems use Linux. ISPs usually use Linux or BSD for the low-level tasks such as traffic routing. I don't think Linux will be going anywhere considering it's embedded into so much shit.
if it works for him, why should he change
Where did I imply that he should change?
Windows is for the normal average user that doesn't need anything but a system running out of the box. But as soon as one wants to get more out of his computer, one should use Linux.
For me, windows has always been way, way more annoying to set up than any of the commonly used distros
What about macintosh? 1000 $ is not THAT expensive...
Windows is for the normal average user that doesn't need anything but a system running out of the box. But as soon as one wants to get more out of his computer, one should use Linux.
I'm not sure what sort of magical shit Linux is supposed to do that Windows can't. It's a bloody OS. It has a different (and shittier) sortiment of software and legacy apps from 1978. Heck, so far as I understand a lot of the ways things are done under Linux is inferior and outdated or simply plain dumb. Like the whole package manager dependency hell shit with no application directories or something. On the other hand I also understand that Windows might well be the most sophisticated OS available to an end user today. So why on Earth would you want Linux to get "more" from your computer? At least Windows works for you even if you don't want this mystical "more". I guess Linux by virtue of being open is far more transparent and tinkerable and as such a better learning environment. Or something. But I don't think the makers of Ubuntu knows what transparent means.
I have given linux a try before, and I can say with certainty that I would absolutely use it over windows most of the time if steam was brought to it. Just steam. The only reason people like myself don't is because the majority of the programs I use are windows based. Hopefully linux will gain more vedor support having support for most new software coming out.
What about macintosh? 1000 $ is not THAT expensive...
Yes, but why on earth would you want one?
It's not gonna die out, they're just saying that because it's the least popular out of the main 3 OS's.
Guys, it's not like Bill Gates or Steve Ballmer said this. This is the fucking president of MICROSOFT RUSSIA. Stop looking so much into this, geez.
It's not gonna die out, they're just saying that because it's the least popular out of the main 3 OS's.
Least popular on desktop computers and laptops, not servers.
Heck, so far as I understand a lot of the ways things are done under Linux is inferior and outdated or simply plain dumb. Like the whole package manager dependency hell shit with no application directories or something.
You don't seem to understand that the package manager system actually actively helps avoid any sort of a dependency hell. I can't see how a central repository system (that you aren't even forced to use) is inferior or outdated. In fact, I think most things on Linux, apart from the whole X server mess, are at least as up-to-date as the relevant applications on Windows. [editline]21st November 2010[/editline]
Linux isn't anywhere near dying. This is exactly like the DarkRP haters. Last year they all said DarkRP was going to die.
The difference is that most people are indifferent to Linux, whereas most people seem to hate DarkRP. Which reminds me, I haven't been whining in the DarkRP thread for months! Better visit it some time. :v:
Will someone tell apwd007 to fucking quit rating everything dumb?
