ok, lets say i do pacman -S gnome and reboot, i'll have a fully working desktop environment?
Why would you reboot? But yes, yes you would.
I would never recommend Linux to somebody who mistakes thinking with things.
try to form a coherent argument, i have no idea what you're talking about
Because it never asked me to partition when I did the install so i aborted it because i thought it would write over the current windows that I had installed.
Never asked you to partition? It should have? There should be this dialog that asks you if you want to partition yourself, use the whole disk automatically or keep the old OS.
Well my windows partition seems to be lost forever Just gotta face the facts and install ubuntu completely until i find a way to fix it.
ok, lets say i do pacman -S gnome and reboot, i'll have a fully working desktop environment?
You'll need Xorg too, but that's in the same command. Might want to install GDM or something too. pacman -S xorg gnome gnome-extra gdm
Well my windows partition seems to be lost forever Just gotta face the facts and install ubuntu completely until i find a way to fix it.
Something I thought of mentioning: When meddling with my external HDD on Vista, I actually, after two reformats, accidentally reverted the original MBR to the device. I have no idea how that is even possible.
Now it says my HDD only has 1 GB free pace FUCK YOU UBUNTU STOP BEING A BITCH.
best feature on facepunch also I've never used linux, could someone give me a reason to try it? I just don't think I'd have much use for it, especially under assumption that it can't run games well, or at least steam considering a guy I knew that could hardly get steam working on it.
so if i wanted to install a desktop environment i would just have to install one package and it would work 100%
yeah, assuming you're content with the default interface. assuming xfce on debian, it's just apt-get install xfce4
Fuck ubuntu, fuck linux. I hope the asshole who made this piece of shit dies a horrible fiery slow death.
I looked in the places nothing there http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/8118/screenshoteft.png Well my HDD looks broken
You moron, your running the LiveCD, you havnt installed anything to your hard drive yet! Seriously, why do you even own a computer, go buy an Xbox, I think thats simple enough for you to understand.
Fuck ubuntu, fuck linux. I hope the asshole who made this piece of shit dies a horrible fiery slow death.
Oh god :v: I haven't laughed this good for a while. :v:
Well WHAT THE FUCK shut you mouth about the @havent done anything to the hard drive@ MY WIN XP BLUESCREENS AT STARTUP, IT DID NOT DO THAT BEFORE THE INSTALL. and it wont even install ubuntu, thats why i run the livecd version. it complains something about file systems. You have to chose a partition to install it on.
You have to chose a partition to install it on.
I did
wait you have a deathstar. you're blaming your problems on linux
Quit being stupid. IIRC (and I believe I do), Ubuntu will automatically set the root at "/". Stop changing shit you have no idea what it is.
I\m not changing shit around. it was this way when i tried to install it for the first time. I got it to install nvm
Also, that install will erase everything on your hard drive and install Ubuntu. By default I believe Ubuntu chooses to repartition the drive and SHARE it. [editline]21st November 2010[/editline] Fucking automerge

If you can't do that, you are wasting a computer that someone with the know how could have used.
If you CHANGED the partitions (instead of resizing), then congratulations, all your shit is gone. Unless by chance you have a backup of your old partition table or want to spend $100s to get your data recovered.

Very mature filename on your screendump. This wouldnt have happened if you didnt rush your way through the install trying to prove your point.
Tasty tasty drama. Ubuntu is fine, it has worked for years. You are clearly too thick to understand how to install it, and trust me, that is a special kind of stupid.
Tasty tasty drama. Ubuntu is fine, it has worked for years. It's the worst experience I have ever had with a computer and now I am stuck with this shit until I get windows 7. Thank god I have a backup of all my .vmf files on the internet.
After you have been posted as content in the illiteracy thread repeatedly, I dont think anyone is going to take your misconcluded views seriously.

When a Linux distro goes to hell or does any damage it is the fault of the user, not the OS. Much like with Windows. Modern Linux distros take a fair amount of effort to cock things up to that extent. And I sincerely doubt installing ubuntu causes your XP to "BlueScreen". The BSoD is due to a hadrware/ driver fault. Either you fucked up with the partitioner and managed to kill some driver data, or your PC is fucked. Nothing to do with linux.
