Lynx is pretty much a rendering engine with limited cookie support.
Limited how? you have yet to say so. when I used it the cookies worked fine, the ONLY difference is it asks you if you want them. Also you are really bringing a speciality browser into this argument to try and prove what you think? One that VERY few use, and for a reason? may as well claim that since This spark browser is just a rendering engine, it is a proper browser, if you are going that far.

I'm just trying to say that a rendering engine is all you need for a browser. You can do without everything else, but not without a rendering engine.
It is limited because a lot of cookie handling goes through Javascript, not HTTP, which Lynx doesn't support.

Cookies are PURE HTTP , a few sites may use javacript to deal with, most don't facepunch, no
gmail, no
facebook, no.
You can make a car with just a engine, wheels, and bottom part of chasis, not goign to be a very good one or one most people would call a car without being pedantic idiots.

The equivalent of "a car with just [an] engine, wheels, and [the] bottom part of [a chassis]" would be wget. Lynx is a browser.
Seriously? Appeal to popularity? Try this. SE? Yes. Google? Yes. Twitter? Yes. Oh, erm, Gmail, yes.
gmail, works fine in lynx, twitter, works fine. Google, works fine, Cookies are http, not javascript., cookies are storied server side, and dealt with server side.

do you see javascript mentioned anywhere?
gmail, works fine in lynx, twitter, works fine.
Your point? They still rely on Javascript. Gmail, you get the basic HTML version, ie. the dumbed down version of the dumbed down version. Twitter idem dito, New Twitter not at all, Old Twitter barely.

For what they do yes, for cookies? no Lynx has FULL cookie support, regardless of how you try and change the issue.
[editline]15th November 2010[/editline]
Oh and pointing out stuff that Lynx can NOT do? I thought you were saying it was a browser even with just a rendering engine?

What? My entire argument was that Lynx can not do anything except render, and it still is a proper browser, and still used as such.
Lynx has full HTTP cookie support. It does not support the Javascript Cookie API used by many sites on the web, simply because it doesn't support Javascript. That API is just as much part of the cookie implementation as HTTP cookies are.
Thread derailed into browser war.

there is no javascript cookie implementation, there is JUST the fact that cookies can be read from javascript, and some sites happen to use that, that is it. Cookies are fully implemented in Lynx, javascript isn't. And yeah, seems the thread was a bit, I am gonna leave this alone like we are leaving the sparkbrowser kid alone.

Please learn the actual specs before you start talking, yeah? The Javascript API is part of the cookie spec, whether you like it or not.

No , it is not, I have allready shown the specs for cookies, the appropriate RFC, you can't find javascript anywhere in there
[editline]15th November 2010[/editline]
http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc2965.html is it again in case can't find it.

Not much to say here. If you fail to realise that since cookies pre-date Javascript, there's obviously going to be an RFC without the API in it, I'm pretty much done.

So your claim is, that javascript is part of the cookie specs yet, the RFC (which btw that is the newest one about cookies, and a NEW one is made each time the specs change) doesn't mention it. Yeah, I am done here too.
Guys guys you're getting caught up on semantics.
Chill.
Remember, this thread is about Sparkbrowser, how much we hate it, and how we are still not going to establish any communication with Reeves for sanity's sake.

Heh I think we can both agree on that (about the comic being appropriate)

Isn't "idiot" and "CJReeves" the same thing?
Isn't "idiot" and "CJReeves" the same thing?
Oh yeah, good point.
I bet that CJR himself doesn't even use his own browser, instead using one of the "slow" browsers.

Listen up people, we've got to stop.
This kid is both ignorant and an arrogant prick. He's enjoying our criticisms because he says "were just sore losers".
There is only one solution: We stop communicating with him.
This means:
* Do not post in the guestbook
* Do not interact with him on Facebook
* Do not tweet him
* Do not email him
Let's watch this die. It's the only way not to let his ignorant arrogance "=WIN".
