And adding to the oddity, checking this thread on a second Ubuntu PC, also in Firefox, the image displays fine. Hmm. Maybe it's the fact that the problem PC is running Firefox 5.
Just deleted Windows 7 and replaced with Ubuntu 11.04. Feels really good.
I'm currently using Ubuntu, but i'm looking for a lighter-weight system for an old laptop. It needs to be simple to install and use (preferably Debian based) since i'm pretty new to Linux, and the ISO needs to be under 700mb. Also don't recommend arch :smith: I'm thinking Lubuntu or Crunchbang? Or should I just use Ubuntu and slim it out a bit? By the way, I like the (old) Ubuntu layout, the one before 11.04. I can install that through repos with Lubuntu, right? :/ Sooo many questions :suicide: [editline]1st July 2011[/editline] My Audacious setup w/ Conky also isn't working. Says unknown variables? The shitty-ass layout on 11.04 is a variation on GNOME. LXDE will have its own, completely different layout for things. The difference is essentially that #! is openbox with lightweight programs on top of it and Lubuntu uses LXDE, which is a desktop environment based on openbox. It will be very similar either way, and both are great options. 2) It turns out that the Debian version of Conky had a LOT of flags turned off when it was compiled. I have no idea why. Type "conky -v" (or it might be -V, I can't remember and I'm on windows right now) into a terminal to see what I mean. It's possible to use ${exec} and ${execbar} to replace that, but it'll soak up a load of resources. I'm not saying what you did wouldn't, but it's a fair warning.
I've managed to get some of those working with ${exec audtool current-song} but I have another question now :D I'm trying to make everything more simple, with transparency - but I can't get it transparent. I've done a bit of googling, tried all the fixes - nothing. Any particular, or just a system whoever wrote Conky made? [editline]1st July 2011[/editline] whee furthermore, how can I get the name of the next song in the playlist? ${exec audtool playlist-song +1} doesn't work.
You can select the old GNOME interface at the login menu at the bottom.
I know, and I have. But that leaves me with all the new stuff clogging up my disks aswell. I'd rather just use Mint, which doesn't even have it as an option.
I know, and I have. But that leaves me with all the new stuff clogging up my disks aswell. [editline]1st July 2011[/editline] If you really care that much, just install one of the versions that doesn't have it.
Yeah, I cba. I'll just use Ubuntu for now.
I thought ubuntu allows you to drop back into gnome-panel if you don't like Unity? Personally I'm using LXDE with OpenBox, feels nice. Also how can you use conky with Unity how does that work

Even if you meant Gnome Shell it wouldn't have made sense.

So I've got a 250GB second hard drive, but my windows is on a 1.5TB seperate drive. If I install Ubuntu on the 250 will it also install GRUB and set it up to work with both hard drives?

Ubuntu should do that automatically IIRC.
Just make sure GRUB is on your primary hard drive. Ubuntu should do that automatically IIRC.
Sounds good. I'll try it. I broke it earlier somehow, MBR wasn't working or something. And my graphics will randomly not work on boot for Ubuntu. Edit: copy paste from Computer illiterates thread:
So get this: In order to boot ANY os now that I just dual-booted Linux, I have to hammer shift from the time the power is on and then when i know grub is launching, HAMMER the down key so it gives me time to choose which OS I want. Good news is I know the order: 1st is Ubuntu, last(hold the down key for five seconds) is Windows. Slightly annoying...
Fuck. My. Life.
Year of the Linux desktop? Not just yet..

Of course it might be because some retards use IE3 with no referer support. [editline]2nd July 2011[/editline]
The change the timeout in your grub.cfg..
I've always quite disagreed with the way major Linux distributions treat Grub timeouts. Fedora (at one point at least) gave you two damn seconds. No time at all! We'll make new users feel constricted.
The change the timeout in your grub.cfg..
That's not the issue, during GRUB, nothing displays and my TV shows a "Not Supported" box that bounces across the screen.
Quite surprising how much greater "Other" is than Linux. Of course it might be because some retards use IE3 with no referer support.
I think it's iPhone and Android mostly.
Oh well that makes more sense. Duh. Didn't Android still give you a Linux string? or am i just pulling that out of my ass
is there a way to keep arch/awesome from stretching my wallpapers without editing the original image with something like gimp.
