Find it in terminal, and if you still see nothing there, just open it as su with a text editor(should still open it even if it's hidden)
vi confused the fuck out of me :saddowns:
And how do I show hidden files/run the terminal as root?
I am still a newbie to Linux, so I don't know much about it.
In order to understand what the commands do, you need to understand that Windows' boot method is proprietary and unknown how the information is done, so we abstract everything and pretend we're booting a location that we assume knows how to handle everything.
rootnoverify (hdx, y) will set that location as root, however it won't mount it. We need this because grub can't read Windows things.
makeactive will set the root device which we defined above as the active partition (note that it's still not mounted)
chainloader will tell grub to boot either the active partition or a location of our choice (if defined). +1 tells grub to go to the first sector of the active partition, which in this case is where Windows will boot.
Thanks for the explanation, it makes sense. I at least knew that grub just invoked the windows bootloader, just not the specifics of it.
And how do I show hidden files/run the terminal as root?I am still a newbie to Linux, so I don't know much about it.
On Ubuntu in the file browser hit ctrl+h to show hidden files. In the terminal to run it as root type su, then the root password then do ls -a to show all files.Oh, and Ubuntu lacks a default root password so type this:
sudo passwd
And then enter a new password. Then everytime you use su, just input that password and you're using the terminal as root.

-snip- I was a tad late :downs:

You may be running Grub2 instead (which works different and doesn't have a menu.lst). In a terminal, type this and post the results.
grub-install -v
That means you're on Grub2 (the git versioning system is different which is why it's called 1.99). Check this page out and look in the "Adding Entries to Grub 2" section.
I need a nice, semi-transparent terminal(think how it is on ubuntu). I've been currently using uxterm which came with debian.I'd like it to look nice if i scrot any changes I make to my desktop.

Thank you! I will test it.

Terminator is always nice.

I only use transparency for non-active windows, and for while you are dragging a window. I've never been a fan of transparency for windows you are trying to use/read.
Also, grabbing the svn repo for 0ad. It's slower than the tarball version, but the last time that was updated was over 2 months ago, and after compiling everything I realized I had to rollback boost to an older version because the 2 month old image isn't compatible with the newest version.
just installed archbang. Any recommended packages to download?

That depends on what you're in to.
Niteshifter's solution worked. Just had to use the update command.
Thanks everyone that helped.
I did a full install of ubuntu, been using it for a couple hours, and besides it taking a little while to start some programs, and the occasional lag spike, everything is super fucking simple.

Is there any way to add some sort of Open Terminal here to right click or to the window explorer?
Is there any way to add some sort of Open Terminal here to right click or to the window explorer?
Well, for me it's already there. I'm using Thunar for my file browser.

i edited my post, it takes a bit to startup programs and lags like shit every once in a while.
i edited my post, it takes a bit to startup programs and lags like shit every once in a while.
Were you using Unity or gnome? Because Unity is bloated and laggy for me.

You can normally set keybinds in any WM or DE. I'm not sure about mouseclicks though.
I use FVWM which will allow you to bind whatever you want to whatever button you have (including mouse clicks), but the cost is you literally need to customise everything so it doesn't look bad (you can search for themes for it, but they all suck).
I've got an issue. I have no folder icons showing up in Thunar. I reinstalled it already, nothing. They were their earlier.

Actually, no icons at all. And I can't quick reply to posts and I also can't edit posts.

gnome
gnome
Take a look at things like openbox. Here's how I've got mine setup.[t]http://i.imgur.com/qO6Gj.png[/t]That's openbox to draw windows/menus, Thunar to browse files, terminator for my terminal, nitrogen draws my background and then I've got tint2 for the panel.

Oh, and I can't have fucking seperate lines on a post, apprently! See above for example...

Install some icons. Search in your package manager for icon themes. Then once installed, log out then back in and you should have them ready.
Fedora is pretty good. Going to test Debian and openSUSE later.
I should have gone with a graphical svn client, because this command line one doesn't give you any progress bar, it just prints a line for every file downloaded. The only way to guage how much longer it will take is to watch as I lose hdd space, knowing the total repo size is supposed to be 1.2gb

Did this http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/linux-gnome-open-terminal-shell-prompt-here/ seems to work
