I literally laughed out loud. Why would you need to try to do that?
There's a few ways to accidentally do that. Running rm -rf ./* will delete everything in the current directory, but if you mistype, you could end up running rm -rf /*
Should be in that menu if you installed it via apt.
i can get into it but every time i reboot my computer it just goes back to unity 3d , and when i log out or switch user i have to select xfce again
Quite piss-poor demonstration to a friend of what you can't do when sudo is not appended to a command.
That's awesome, haha. It reminds me of all those people in Elementary telling me they could delete C:/.
Derp. Anyone had this strange problem with the Adobe Flash Player where it won't display any fonts whatsoever?
I'm having this wierd problem relating to Ubuntu / Java applets. There's this game (A java game called Steel Sentinels, from Funorb.) Whenever I try to use hotkeys within the game such as Alt, F1, F2, they don't work. Either nothing happens, or in case of F1/F2 it switches workspace. How can I fix it so that I can use the hotkeys in-game? I've tried disabling the key bindings from Admin -> Keyboard shortcuts.
Holy shit. Funorb? I remember playing Runescape and Jagex announced Funorb and I was like "the fuck is this shit"
Holy shit. Funorb? I remember playing Runescape and Jagex announced Funorb and I was like "the fuck is this shit"
Some of the games are decent for when I'm on this PC. Can't do fuck all else on this. Any clue as to my problem?
Unfortunately, no. So what's the point of having a separate /home partition if sharing it across two installations of distros (and using the same username) causes shit to get fucked up, i.e. settings from one distro breaking the other?
I'm honestly at a loss for what distro to use anymore. Seems like they're all being taken over by shit like kde, gnome 3, or unity. I'd use Arch but I know I'll break something. Any tips? EDIT: I was going to try Chakra, it uses pacman and kde(I've honestly never used it) since it came on the dvd with Linux Formats most recent issue but the fucking Chakra live environment apparently doesn't work.

Yes, you can break something, but hey, not like that it takes too long to reinstall it, in a worst-case scenario when you can't recover something. And after all, all you have to do is be careful.
Dr. Deeps, I would recommend checking out Linux Mint. It's pretty light and elegant. If you just want panels, it's there for you. XFCE or LXDE are both pretty lightweight. No gnome bloat. No crazy unity phone UI on a computer. If you need some kind of dock, check out Docky and hook up XCompmgr for the compositing. People call me crazy, but Linux Mint runs VERY well on my 3 year old laptop, unlike Windows 7 or Ublantu 11.10.

I remember having issues with ibus and Minecraft.
I just checked out distrowatch.org, and found to my surprise: Mint more popular than Ubuntu? What the fuck? Here's what I found: an explanation from the Linux Mint blog. Linux mint is going to use Gnome 3. That screenshot looks extremely interesting. In my opinion the Linux Mint website could use a little makeover. It has looked the same for a while now.
To anyone else that uses chromium, do you get the problem where if you enter a page with some gif images and when scrolling over one of the gif, the memory usage spikes up really high and chromium hangs for no reason? I end up getting these when browsing the programming waywo thread and it's really annoying having to switch ttys to kill the tab.
Crtl+alt+left/right and open a terminal?
I've already tried that. Since chromium was using so much memory, things were pretty laggy and I found it faster to switch ttys. [editline]7th November 2011[/editline] I think I found it. It probably had to do with filesmelt and something on my end. I put it on adblock's blacklist so images won't come up from there anymore. [editline][/editline] Nevermind, that wasn't it. Apparently someone else has that problem as well, so it might be a problem with the browser.
I personally haven't had that issue, but I do know that Chromium can have a problems on different distros (Flash playback hardly works and audio almost never works with chromium/gentoo).
I just viewed it from links instead.
Mints usage of Gnome 3 is basically the only way I will ever use it besides on a tablet. I despise the default look of it.
Debian, OpenSuse, Mandriva (who uses that nowadays lol) and slackware
thanks for this list but it looks like slackware is too outdated, and the others use old packages? i'd like updated software do you know any archlinux distributions?

current stable has a ton of up to date stuff. I personally use a wheezy/sid system and my most out of date piece of software is the kernel at 3.0.0
So let's say I have two wireless cards that work perfectly in Ubuntu, with no third-party drivers listed in Additional Drivers. Would that be an indication that they would work just as well in Arch OOTB, meaning no shit drivers to install?
