Primarily for 3 reasons.
1. They sell conformity while claiming to sell the rebel product.
2. Their innovations are actually based on products that were made by other manufactures, just with the Apple logo on it.
3. They single handedly turned computers into a fashion line.
Do I hate the company? No... If it wasn't for them, the mobile revolution would've never taken place.
My Philosophy: If it's mobile, Apple is good, but Andriod is usually better.
I'll always stand by my opinion that if Macs were more competitively priced, I'd buy one in a heartbeat.
Don't you think Macbook Air has a fair price?
Don't you think Macbook Air has a fair price?
Anything with an i5 as weak as that and integrated graphics should not cost more than $500.
Company's point of vieuw:
Company's that make professional programs like 3dsmax, Qbase, Sonar etc like apple because it has standardized hardware. They dont have to fix support for every hardware configuration but just for 1.
For windows they have to keep track of all the drivers for all the different brand components who all have to work in sync, this leads to bugs and crashes.
Secondly OSX has a fundemental difference in structure that doesnt kill the whole OS if something crashes badly, but just the program if it crashes. This same difference causes old apple computer to not be able to multitask.
This does make apple computers very stable. If you have ever written to random unallocated memory while coding you know what I mean.
This however is also making its wat way into windows computers.
Linux does this even better but used to be harder to use, so only the real pro's use that. (Pixar, record labels etc).
Speed:
For speed of Rendering, encoding compiling or whatever there isnt much difference between OSX and Windows, some programs run better on windows and some better on Mac.
Linux holds the crown in terms of speed though because the whole O.S. can be made specifically to speed up whatever you are running.
(Sorry i forgot where i saw this test, think it was tomshardware.com)
Conclusion:
Apple suffers being a bit of a middle child here, and due to alot of semi pro's using it that dont like the unstabillity and bugs on windows but also cant use linux.
Other clueless people buy them because the semi-pro's have them and clever advertising from Apple.
Stealing designs:
Things like the Ipad, Iphone and mac all existed in some form before they started making them. They made them work well and made them mainstream paving the way for others to follow them into making even better devices.
For that I thank them.
However they have not invented the look of their devices and are not the owner of it.
Design, just like fashion has a tendency to change globally every now and then. We dont all make flat devices with big touchscreens on them because apple did it first (which they didnt) but because the technology to make this work well has only now become available.
Uh, to you guys arguing on Android battery life: It depends on the phone. Sure Android may lead to some battery life issues but having a 1.5ghz dual core with a 4.3inch screen on LTE isn't going to last long on a 1600mah battery.
These phone companies need to work on battery life before adding all this fancy dual core 1.5ghz shit.

Yeah, but that's Android's current problem. Too much hardware that's super unnecessary. It also sometimes leads to dickheads who go OH LOOK MY PHONE HAS A MORE POWERFUL PROCESSOR when it doesn't really provide noticeable benefits.
WP7 and iOS are fucking smooth and the phones don't have dual cores yet. Even Microsoft said dual cores in phones are a waste of battery for no real gain, that's why they're not a WP7 requirement.
I have an iPod touch 2G, and yeah, it's a good device, but apple are releasing a new model every year and constantly dropping support for the older ones.
But after the recent copyright bullshit from apple lately I'm not going to continue to buy their products, yeah, one person probably doesn't make a difference but I refuse to continue supporting these absolute dicks.
I had an iPod Touch 2G that I recently gave to my father so I could replace both my five years old phone and music player by a single device, i.e an iPhone 3GS.
It's a very good phone no doubt about that but if it wasn't in promotion I would have never taken it. It's way too expensive and Apple keeps fucking with people with all these unnecessary upgraded models.
I hate Apple now because I'm about to have to buy my fourth iPod because rather than just repair my iPod they are going to tell me it is irreparable and charge me £150 for another replacement. And since I don't have the money to buy the latest I'll probably have to rather than cope with a screen that decides when or not I can see what is actually on screen.

Supposedly the dual cores used more efficient cpu's so it made no difference.
Regardless, Android is smooth, and I'm using a low end phone.
kids in my school keep saying they pre-ordered the iphone 5, but I don't even see where it was announced?
By pre-ordered they mean "Asked my parents to keep an eye out for it, and buy me one"

696Mhz Arm V6 with a 3.5" screen on 3G...
I can get about 3 hours of having the screen on constantly and it craps out.
Hey, Atleast I can carry a 2nd battery with me though, which I now do.
Both Mac and Windows are very good operating systems, each with a number of certain advantages over the other. I wont go into the details as they can be found all over the web. I would think that
most comparisons out there are biased towards one side to some degree though, so if you're going to read them, read them critically.
A lot of it also just comes down to personal taste and past experience and how you generally use a computer.
Obviously the best way to find out which system is better for you is to get your hands on both of them and explore the possibilities and limitations, and with an open mind. I think that's part of the reason why many people who feel hateful towards Apple/Mac or Microsoft/Windows, they have never taken a complete tour of the "other side" or they didn't do it open-mindedly.
Another aspect that might be worth considering is the nature of humans, specifically that, I think, when someone feels sufficiently annoyed by someone/-thing they'll find more reasons to dislike them the longer they are being bothered by them and they wont necessarily be rational, hence negative experiences associated with one of the two companies/products (due to fanboyism maybe) may tint our perception of that company/product negatively in the future, and finding that others are in agreement with you only reinforces it. Realizing that that may be the case and opening your mind again is not easy, I think, so I can fully understand why it is the way it is. And I hope nobody feels offended when I say that, because I don't view it as a weakness or having anything to do with intelligence, it's just the way we are. That's my belief anyway which is influenced by my interest in neuroscience, psychology and philosophy.
On a more practical and relevant note, Macs do perform much worse than PCs when it comes to gaming, for whatever reasons, but I can see it improving in the future as the customer base for Macs continues to grow and more and more development houses are making games that support both platforms. Also, fanboyism, elitism, and corporate marketing schemes are in excess these days beyond Apple. And when a magazine writes a heavily biased review on something, just deal with it. If it gets someone that annoyed they are taking it too personal, I think. As if they are afraid that the entire human population is getting "brainwashed" and they are the last one with a clear head. Even if that were true, it shouldn't affect you since you can always tell people what YOU think. The problem is, speaking one's mind despite knowing that others wont agree can be intimidating, which is what it ultimately comes down to, I think, courtesy of our subconscious. Having a healthy amount of social interaction, regular conversations, etc with friends and acquaintances will help fix that, which of course seems to be a lacking aspect for many of us computer geeks nowadays (see how that fell into place nicely?).
I might have gone slightly off-topic there again, but finally I just want to make it clear that I am not an Apple fanboy if you've somehow gotten that impression so far, and I can say that very confidently as I frequently have problems with my Mac and curse at it and Apple because of them. I am also not sold on Lion and don't think much of the "Mac App Store" either. I use Windows from time to time for work and am pleased with it. (Also, to the person who said that Mac has messed up keyboard shortcuts earlier, I disagree, I use several keyboard shortcuts per minute all day long and never feel let down by them. It's a matter of getting used to them, and you can't blame Apple for that, just like I can't blame Microsoft for the way Windows does it. It would be nice if both systems had the same general shortcuts and mnemonics but that would require a cooperative effort between Microsoft and Apple for probably little return value, in that case you can blame both, or neither, whichever way you see it.)
they are hating on apple cuz they cant afford it
I have $2000 in savings right now and I still hate Apple. I'd love a Mac but I can buy a better Vaio, and Vaios are not cheap, for half the price.

It's hard to make sense of this post, but I do dislike Apple although they make good products. If I wanted to buy a Mac it's kind of hard to ignore the price, and I know Vaio's are good, I have one.
Talking about overpriced apple products
Are there any ultraportable net/notebooks like mac book air 11", but non-apple and that cost less? I need to prove my macfag friend apple prices aren't fair.

not exactly ultraportable but it blows the MBA out of the water anyway
might be less than par processor, let me find one on newegg
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834131153
slightly larger, but way better CPU, same graphics, more RAM etc
I can't even say that buying the iPhone 5 makes any sense, because the Meizu MX stomps all over it with a quad core Cortex A9 and it quite literally looks like an iPhone.

I don't see the sense in hating, but I do agree about pricing. I suppose some people are happy to use OSX over Windows 7 even if it costs them more? I know that would be the reason, and the more solid build and better battery life.

That's not what he is asking for. If you've seen an Air in real life recently, you'll see that those things are thin as fuck. I mean like 3 clipboards stack on each other are thicker pretty much (assuming you removed the metal clip).
And in our tablet-crazed age, a thick laptop is a no no, and Airs are thinner than anything, it's insane holding and using one in real life, just fucking insane.
[editline]30th September 2011[/editline]
It go to the point where in Best Buy I was thinking "Holy shit someone can just cut the lock cable preventing people from moving it too far and just slip the laptop in their shirt and run off!"
I have a thick laptop. Come at me bro.
I am at an Apple Store right now, the products may be overpriced, sure, but they are great overall. There shouldn't be so much hate for Apple.
Yeah, I have to agree with you. The battery life is really poor on Android.
You can't generalize every item using Android as having a better or worse battery.
And I don't see having a per-phone/tablet experience with Android as a bad thing. It leaves room for diversity and improvement.
I am at an Apple Store right now, the products may be overpriced, sure, but they are great overall. There shouldn't be so much hate for Apple.
That's bullshit trying to show off "OH LOOK I GETTING TEH IPHONE 5"
*After it comes Out*
You: Where's your iPhone5?
Them: Uh i decided not to get it so i cancelled the preorder

Honestly the Android Battery problem is they are trying to put small capacity batteries into powerful phones to compete with the iphone and Windows Mobile sleek and slim wise.
Instead of getting a dual core 1ghz, why not root and overclock your android phone to 1.5ghz? Most modern Android processors can go to 1.5 and beyond. Plus, they have a feature that powers the processors down to 300mhz when not in heavy use, and different power profiles in which you can switch.

Yeah and if someone wants to game on one a bit, I believe you can get one with a Nvidia 540m, which will run all source games with 35+fps, Black Ops, etc.

I know it's not what he's asking but nobody has made a laptop quite as slim as Apple's MBA yet, but either way it still proves you can get a lot more for less.
People hate apple because they can sell a $3000 computer that gets a HUGE, AMAZING 30 FRAMES PER SECOND ON TF2
For me it will always be because of their prices.
You are paying for the brand.
I generally wear plain unbranded T-Shirts, I never pay £20+ for a pair of jeans or a top.
Hence I'm not wasting my money on something fancy when I can get just as good for cheaper.
At the end of the day, It's a tool for work.
Bells and whistles or not.
Same with my phone.
My phone ---- Android - HTC Desire - Upgradable with Over The Air upgrades. <-- FREE!!!!!
Would never buy ---- Apple - iPhone - Spend £500+ on the next model to upgrade. <-- EVERYTIME THERE'S AN UPGRADE.
