• Why do people hate Apple so?

Because you can, on all ends.
People hate apple because they can sell a $3000 computer that gets a HUGE, AMAZING 30 FRAMES PER SECOND ON TF2
I am 100% sure, that you have no idea what you are talking about, and that you are a complete idiot.
Same with my phone. My phone ---- Android - HTC Desire - Upgradable with Over The Air upgrades. <-- FREE!!!!! Would never buy ---- Apple - iPhone - Spend £500+ on the next model to upgrade. <-- EVERYTIME THERE'S AN UPGRADE.
Thats dumb. HTC OTA upgrades are just firmware upgrades, just like the iOS updates, both are free. you would have to spend 500$+ on a HTC Phone aswell, if you want to upgrade to a better phone.
My contract has free upgrades every 18 months V:v:V
you would have to spend 500$+ on a HTC Phone aswell, if you want to upgrade to a better phone.
Yes but you don't have to, to get a better product, I would take a G1 over the iPhone 4 any day.
i'm on an iphone 1. The only time it's worth upgrading to 5g.
because they can on all ends
Yes but you don't have to, to get a better product, I would take a G1 over the iPhone 4 any day.
I wouldn't. iOS can go suck a cock anytime, but the hardware is better by a good deal. If I needed a smartphone, I would use it to browse the web almost exclusively, and for that, the iPhone would be better. I would take a MBP any day if it was cheaper than a comparable PC (more than 100$ cheaper, as I would need windows as well). For me it simply matters what hardware would be cheapest (and best) for me, and less what manufacturer it comes from. I would probably choose some other manufacturer if I had a choice, as I have some problems with how Apple's doing business, but in general, that's my rule. OS wise, I prefer Windows by far, but it's subjective, really (other than the fact that there's much more software on the Windows side), and I expect that some people will have a opinion that differ from mine.

And I really hate the plasticy childish UI.
Without quick and easy USB mass storage and a real filesystem, it's absolute junk to me.
Without quick and easy USB mass storage and a real filesystem, it's absolute junk to me. I can just straight up access my SD card from Linux without having to use iTunes (which isn't available for Linux anyway). I can just throw some files on it with any file manager I feel like using and it's good to go. Pretty simple stuff.

I totally understand the price complaints and the dislike for Apple's tight grip on the OS (iTunes required, etc). But when people are saying they can get "better" for cheaper, you mean "better" for you right? Or are you claiming it's just better and there's no reason for anybody else to pick an iPhone over whatever device you prefer?

Like right after you switch it on.
I personally love the overall quality of construction and design of apple products. They have had genuine thought and investment into the ergonomic and aesthetic appeals. Apple's the Bauhaus of technology and you pay slightly more but, in my experience, the products last longer and perform more consistently than competitors.
That's not what he is asking for. If you've seen an Air in real life recently, you'll see that those things are thin as fuck. I mean like 3 clipboards stack on each other are thicker pretty much (assuming you removed the metal clip). And in our tablet-crazed age, a thick laptop is a no no, and Airs are thinner than anything, it's insane holding and using one in real life, just fucking insane.
You have never used a Lenovo X220. It's a teensy bit thicker, and in return you get an IPS display, a theoretical max of 19 hours screen on time, and full customization. I'll take the battery life over thinness any day of the week. [editline]5th October 2011[/editline] The battery life on the Galaxy S2 rivals the iPhone 4. If you really want to make a valid comparison, switch off everything but push email, switch off background sync, turn off always-on mobile data, and eliminate any ability for the phone to have active applications running in the background. The Galaxy S2 will easily trash the iPhone 4 here. If you run a dark theme and dark non-live wallpaper, the SAMOLED+ means it will save enough battery to beat the iPhone 4 by a country mile. Yes, Android phones could easily be just as power efficient as iOS. In the process, you would lose so much that there really isn't much point to using Android anyway. With a properly managed phone, you should easily get out a full day of battery. With the Desire HD, one of the smallest batteries in a smartphone, I can get 2 full days of battery if I stay in areas of good cell reception.
I'm certain the Air has an IPS as well (I think Apple only uses IPS on their products). I'll check out that Lenovo if I ever need a laptop. [editline]5th October 2011[/editline] nvm, googling it, the Lenovo's price is an i3 for $800, the Air is $900 for an i5. And the openbox deals at Best buy have a 13.3" i5 Air for $970ish.

Which means the viewing angles are absolutely atrocious, and they insist on having a glossy screen.
I can't lay a finger on exactly why I hated Apple. I guess it was for a few reasons, but within the last few years I have gained a ton of respect for them. Originally, I didn't like Apple primarily because I associated them with OS X which seemed to be a "dumbed down" locked up operating system which I didn't like. I also thought all of their products were over-priced. After getting my iPhone 3GS my respect for them increased a lot because the quality of the product was incredible. Although I was required to Jailbreak the device to unlock features I needed. Then after buying my Macbook Air a few months ago, I realized how great OS X Lion is and that the Macbook Air price was comparable to any other PC notebook of that size. The release of the iPhone 4, and using my Macbook for a while made my respect increase tenfold. I guess the main reason why I hated apple was because I was uninformed.
are you sure? I'm glad they changed phones though.

Apple products are nice for what they are. I have a iPod touch and a MacBook pro. I mean, I don't brag because I have them, but I really do like them. I have a google nexus s 4g. I love that too. I feel people who hate on apple are just a bunch of cock suckers who have nothing better to do. If you like windows OS, go buy one. It's your personal preference. Why should I care? Apple products hold their value, even years later. Their customer service is legit as hell. Everything looks really nice. I don't really play video games on my computer. I just really do school work, check e-mail, photoshop, browse internet, play music. I'm a college student, so I need something reliable.
Apple products hold their value, even years later.
This is a very important fact that has almost swayed my buying decision a few times.
So any evidence to back up your claims?
What claims? That after owning apple products he has realized that he feels they have a nice quality product and that OSX is a very solid operating system? I'd say that his personal experience warrants the validity of his statements. I don't think you need concrete specs to be able to say "I think the quality is incredible".
So any evidence to back up your claims?
I didn't "claim" anything. I told my opinion on Apple and their products, and I don't need to justify my opinion.

I'd say that the quality of the product is okay, but the "felt" quality feels high-end. By "felt", I mean the fact that it's made of aluminium. It's not better than plastic, but it "feels" like it's better.
I don't get how this is still a discussion but if this is what people really wanna talk about sure. Wut I think - For many, it's an overpriced, over hyped and technically inferior device. Most people I know who hate Apple for their inaccessibility to their needs, pure and simple. Doesn't have a good game library, doesn't have the software, accessories, sound cards, etc etc etc. that PC's do. They simply don't cater to everyone, so, to those that they don't...they typically don't like Apple for it. Many people will say "I can't do this, so I don't like their shit". Funny enough though, that, in many and perhaps in most ways, other brands have made technically superior products, except, they don't have the brand. That's when you know you've made a successful brand. When you've convinced people you've made an amazing product...even if it really isn't. Apple makes products, Dell makes SKU's. There's a big f'n difference and the public has embraced a tech company that actually knows how to create a cohesive experience throughout their entire product line. Microsoft is desperately trying with their new generation...the whole complete product experience throughout different devices. They've been horrible horrible for decades, it's taken a lesson, just like everyone else, that the public isn't just after higher specs after all. Whether or not they can do this...remains to be seen. That's what you call pure genius in my opinion. Whether you like Apple or not...they've branded SUCCESSFULLY themselves as the nicer, higher end products. And because of this, they are successful. It's just a business, like any other business. It's like Nordstrom to Kmart, a million analogies can be made. If you don't get it, you're kinda dumb. Whether you like or dislike Apple...well, the debate will go on but Apple is laughing all the way to the bank despite it all.

Some Windows PCs are aluminium too and I've never seen someone use a hard shell case on a Windows PC. The UI is godawful unintuitive and it's almost as bad as XP's Fisher Price UI except they sanded it down and developed QE/CI to make it "shiny" and "sleeker." The hardware, for the price, is severely behind similarly priced Windows PCs. God forbid your DVD drive/hard drive/RAM fails because you can't service it yourself and instead have to pay a fee or void your warranty. Apple in 2011 is not the same innovator as Apple in the 1980's. They're not true innovators anymore, just "polishers." It's like cars - you can take a sports car and put body kits, spoilers, fart cans and decals on it all you wish, but if its engine isn't up to spec, it's not truly spectacular.
Macs make nice work and business computers. They're reliable, have great customer service and are generally nice to have. I havn't owned a Mac but if I get enough money I will be buying a Macbook Pro. I'll stick to windows for desktops, though.
I can't see anyone justifying Macs being higher quality than Windows PCs without saying "it's aluminium and sturdy."
True that, my chassis is huge and made of aluminium, Corsair 800D
The primary reason for Apple dislike is the price.
