Just throwing this out there. But buying a more expensive car tends to have benefits, much like buying a mansion compared to a house has benefits. Because they are one of the first competitors to a Macbook ever. How so? Thinness. A laptop is meant to be portable, performance matters little, form factor matters all. Sure, there's the term "Ultrabooks", but that's still a pretty much niche. Most people I see with a Mac, either owns a Macbook or a Macbook Pro. As far as I recall the Macbook is about the same price as the Air, and the MBP is more expensive. Why did they not choose the Air? I don't know, but the extreme thinness isn't enough to buy one of them, it seems. Also, Microsoft is of course promoting the Samsung Series 9, and that's because it's a sexy piece of hardware. Haven't seen many of them around, though, so again, I doubt that the thinness is the big deal.
Most people I see with a Mac, either owns a Macbook or a Macbook Pro
Exactly, and a ANY Mac is thinner than almost ANY Windows laptop. Thinness matters.
Exactly, and a ANY Mac is thinner than almost ANY Windows laptop. Thinness matters.
Oh, you're joking. Sorry, sarcasm doesn't translate well over the internet. [sp]Read the post goddammit. "Most people I see with a MAC". Your reading comprehension (even though that sentence really is shit english) must be pretty bad. Most people I see use a Windows based laptop.[/sp]
why cant people like both of them. i like pc because im more familiar with it and its compatible tools, but i like ipods over zunes because they are easier to use to me.
All i'm gonna say is that yes Apple computers are overpriced, but everything has an overpriced option. Cars: You could buy a hot hatchback or you could buy a Ferrari Clothes: you could buy brand less but you could also buy Ralph Lauren holidays: You could stay in Europe or you could go to America Housing:You could buy a small house or you could buy a mansion. And finally You could buy a PC with the works or you could buy a Mac. Not justifying the cost, nothing can, but why do we buy Dolce & Gabanna? Why are Lamborghini still in business? Its because there's that thing, that magic of buying something that is the height of quality, sure the specs in a Mac is nothing special but they put a emphasis on how it all fits together like very few manufactures do, like the equivalent pc may have better specs, but it's easy to take a budget, buy the best you can afford and then shove it in a box but the design that Apple puts in won't look impressive on a tech sheet, but put a Macbook Air next to a ThinkPad and you know the design makes a difference.
I don't know about you, but I'd prefer my laptop to be understated and utilitarian. The Macbook Air is none of those things. It also doesn't have anywhere near enough ports to really connect anything to it. Why do you buy D&G? Because it's the look and feel, and the probability that yes, you are buying something that has more style, better materials, etc. Why is Lamborghini still in business? Because nothing, nothing can compare to the sound of a roaring V12 behind your back as you do an all-wheel powerslide in ridiculously good leather seats, as opposed to driving a Honda Accord. The Mac does none of that, it's a computer and it's a disposable good at the end of the day.
Care to expand? Not trying to debate, rather I'm genuinely interested in knowing what you think. Did you mean the marketing bit or the hiding the internals/ simplification bit?
Yeah, I personally get a bit annoyed about the smugness in for example the "I'm a Mac" commercials and that alike. The word "Magic" is also used a bit too much, in my opinion, and while it appeals to people along with the "It just works" slogan, it's simply too much for some people who know a thing or two about computers. They're great at marketing, really, but they are also great at pissing people off. Lots of commercials piss me off, though, so Apple isn't exclusive in that department. [editline]19th November 2011[/editline]
http://gizmodo.com/296696/apple-partners-with-starbucks-for-free-wi+fi-access-to-itunes-music-store I wasn't lying... And I kind of like it just due to the fact that I can put it inside of a drawstring knapsack with some paper and a pen and go to class and have it be lighter overall than if i were to use a macbook pro or my old windows laptop. But I agree, if you're looking for the ability to use an external mouse, keyboard, or thumb drive you're kind of fucked.
Yeah, I personally get a bit annoyed about the smugness in for example the "I'm a Mac" commercials and that alike. And thats really the attitude they want to impress on the people who buy their stuff, too. People like to feel exclusive, and better-than. This type of branding works well, but annoys people who don't fall for it/ know better.
Just throwing this out there. But buying a more expensive car tends to have benefits, much like buying a mansion compared to a house has benefits. Buying a Mac has no discernible benefit over a cheaper PC other than the brand name.
Fast cars are impractical and mansions are hard to maintain, actually most expensive things are actually a pain in the ass to have, but again like i said it doesn't matter because you consider that before you buy it and you still decide you want it. Like a mac, you know you can get the same specs in a cheaper PC but you still get the Mac because it's a nicer computer.
nicer computer.
Thats debatable.

As for the Lamborghini, true Macs are not as fast as PCs but with a Lamborghini you get to brag about how it has carbon fibre this and space age that, well with Mac laptops you get to brag about the Unibody.

I'm a pretty big Windows enthusiast. Hated Apple. Hated the Mac, the iPhone at some point, and the iPad. I was one of those people who went, "oh it's just overpriced bullshit that nobody wants." Then I got an iPhone and I really liked it. It's so nice and smooth and the apps are pretty much unparalleled. Then I got an iPad 1G and it was super great but after a while I got bored of iOS and went to Windows Phone 7 and eventually to Android, owning a Samsung Nexus S and a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. The Nexus S was pretty damn neat and the customization was incredible. The Galaxy Tab 10.1 was a laggy shithole (I'll admit. I still love Android but I couldn't stand the shit performance of that fucking Tegra 2). So I ditched the Tab and got an iPad 2 and immediately fell in love again. Using Android on the Tab, I slowly forgot iOS then moving back to iOS, I started realizing how awesome it is. Yeah you can't do everything under the sun with it and you can't customize jack shit, but goddamn it's just more reliable and has better battery life. I can't say which is better than the other because it depends entirely on what kind of user you are. Frankly, I got sick of trying a new ROM every week because the former ROM decided it didn't like my carrier anymore or some other bullshit and started longing for an experience that just worked well out of the box with zero bullshit, and so far, only the iPhone gives me that. That's the iPhone. As for the iPad, the apps on my Galaxy Tab 10.1 were decent. There were some apps that let you customize things that would be impossible on the iPad, but generally, the apps were pretty rubbish. You were mostly limited to half-assed tablet versions of phone apps or had to use a phone app that was comically blown up to a big screen that it wasn't designed for so it wasn't a pleasant experience. Flash was cool but the browsing wasn't generally as smooth as the iPad 2's browsing. I started missing all the apps that I had grown accustomed to on the iPad with the Galaxy and I eventually went back. Getting the iPad back is what actually convinced me to go back to iPhone. I still love the Nexus and it's still a masterpiece of a phone, but I'm seriously sick of dicking around with ROMs and bullshit. As for Windows... I got a Macbook Pro yesterday with an i7 and everything. It was my first foray into the OSX ecosystem in general after having been an avid Windows fanboy for over 15 years. It's pretty fucking awesome. Mac has gone a long way since the bullshit I used when I was in high school. It used to have Panther or some other craptastic version of OSX that generally sucked assholes, but Lion is a joy to use. The touchpad is fucking sex, specifically after leaving my old Dell's shitpile Alps touchpad that would have sudden cancer and start performing retard sessions in the middle of something important every 10 minutes. But beyond having a touchpad that works really damn well, it's so nice and big and the multi-touch on it is pretty much as good as an iPad's multitouch. It's really sensitive and is smartly built. This isn't to say that suddenly I hate Windows Phone 7, hate Android, hate Windows 7. I'm not a mindless idiot like 99% of the MacRumors forums, but I will say that all of this hate towards Apple products is completely unjustified. These people don't give it a proper chance. Apple itself as a company is a shithole nowadays with how much trolling they do with other companies and how they fuck over legacy users (iOS5 slowed down the iPhone 4 beyond reasonableness. They did it on purpose) but its products are really damn good. The hardware is unparalleled and the experience of the OS is really neat. I hate typing this way because it makes me sound like I've been completely brainwashed by this shit but seriously it's really damn neat and I recommend anybody out there who talks shit about these products to try the latest iterations of their lineup. It's not the same shit as it used to be a few years back. They actually grew some talent and started to not suck. As if to balance this growth in quality, they also started to become assholes and sue everyone under the sun for thinking about rectangles but fuck it, the products are awesome.
They're getting ride of headphone jacks now? Goddamn it, and I bet they are keeping useless VGA or something dumb like that.
Where the fuck did you get that idea?
Where the fuck did you get that idea?
A few posts earlier people were complaining about lack of ports.
I cant stand the engadget trolls. "it has VGA? what is this 2001?" give me all the ports you can fit in. so I dont have shitty adaptors dangling out.
A few posts earlier people were complaining about lack of ports.
The only thing I really see missing is VGA, but I personally have no use for it.
I cant stand the engadget trolls. A dongle is fine.
well, this thread really got out of hand. For everyone pointing out Macs flaws, why do you need to constantly prosecute the people who choose to use them. How does it impact you and no. Don't even think about referencing those show offs, they are eveywhere and Mac attracts them because its Apple, Apple doesn't make them. They would be shovanistic regardless of whether Apple existed or not. Anyway, the main point of this post is not why apple is bad, there are many reasons, but why do you feel the need to let eveyone know that? Can't it be my own choice to use an iPhone because I enjoy it more than using a Galaxy? What is the problem with that? That's my question.
