• Why do people hate Apple so?

People get irate because Apple turns their products into brand names that people can recognise, and then shout loudly that people are being brainwashed by shiny marketing and instead of buying that 15 inch Macbook Pro they should be buying the Asus XVCEE-4682Y5EF4-D because it's half the price and honestly once you reinstall Windows to get rid of all the shit it's great and then you just got to install anti virus and a PDF reader and some trial of an Office suite then get Windows Live Essentials etc etc etc
Macs aren't focused towards gaming, so most of Facepunch hates them for that. I've also noticed in reading the hate comments that a lot of them said they can't afford them, so would hate come out of that? Let people buy what they want, no matter how "shit" or "overpriced" they seem. For better or worse, the majority of mobile devices today are very much inspired by the iPhone and iPad. I have a Macbook Pro because the software used in my course was Mac only, and I didn't want to be restricted in the work I could do away from class depending on the mac workstations. Its by far the best laptop I've ever used. I swear other laptop companies are competing to make the worse built and lowest quality machines at times. Having 2GB of VRAM doesn't mean much to me when it feels like carrying it around its a tank and a cheap feeling one at that.
Look, it's subjective. You can't argue over opinions. But they rip people off and have the most infuriating marketing plan is basically a fact. They overly exaggerate how good their shit is. Then they spawned an army of blind idiots who support them without know what the fuck they're talking about.
I didn't really give a shit about apple until the moronic "I'm a mac, I'm a PC" adverts. Most of what they said was either complete bullshit or outdated, but people just ate it up. My favourite one was when the Mac says that he's for fun stuff, while the PC is for work. It's mostly the other way around, macs have always been better suited as work machines in areas like graphic design, etc. and PCs are very widely used for gaming. It's only very recently that apple have been trying to get away from the office workhorse image.

Its creative stuff where Macs are used extensively. Apple marketing is a great deal better than what the competition comes out, and the events are always quite exciting and get a great deal of coverage. Even the departure of Jobs was covered internationally by news, as are Apple announcements. It was only Microsoft who got similar coverage when Gates stepped down, I don't know of any other tech companies that get that type of coverage.

Apple products are severly overpriced and underpowered compared to the equivilent windows machine. The "apple lockdown" things that should you should be able to do on a smartphone/computer/tablet you cant do with iOs or OSX. The supporters, not all of them, but allot of them think that apple are the absolute greatest company out there, if they were why is android selling more? Why is windows the dominant computer os?. Last point is the fact that apple see that everything that is sold by them, they should still have control over the product.
First off, tell me where you can get a high end gamer for $600 so i can give them my money. secondly Apple doesn't make computers for gamers. they make computers for consumers who read emails, browse the web and do other mellow activities on their PCs once or twice a week and need something quick and easy to use without all the bells and whistles getting in the way. [editline]26th August 2011[/editline] So you hate the company because of the people who own the products?
you make it sound like there's a fucking checklist of shit you have to do on a windows laptop before you can check email and shit.
Am I the only one who thinks Apple haters just have an automatic bias that says "to be a clever intellect who knows heaps about computers, i must use windows and hate on apple"?
No. You have to use Linux, you silly boy. In fact, use BSD, no binary-blob software and don't forget to compile EVERYTHING. /sarcasm I love how people in this thread seem to thing Windows is super hard to use. It's not. My mother who can't operate the remote control of a TV properly can use Windows. As for hating Apple, I don't really hate them. I think OS X is an excellent operating system. I do, however hate there EULAs that prohibit any kind of modification or installing of there software on non-apple branded PCs, even if it works. Not that they can do anything about it. I also hate fan boys of just about anything. Those people that think product A is better than product B and give no valid reason are all retards in my book.
Heh. Another thing that boils my blood is that it is for "Media" 3D Studio Max doesn't run on OSX. (Please note I don't hate Apple, I admit I have an Ipod Nano 5th gen and an Ipod Touch 2nd gen and they are good for browsing the internet. It's just some of their customers that try to push it in your face that they are different, like my friend Matt whenever I try to talk to him about hardware that he knows next to nothing about. He's still my friend and I don't think we should fight over a collection of circuit boards and bits of plastic. )

The 2011 17" MBP comes with a 2.2ghz latest i7 (why wouldn't it? yearly hardware refresh) its a 1920x1200 panel, 1200p not 1080p so more workspace that the majority of panels nowadays. The cooling is quite sufficient for hours of gaming on my 15" MBP, I've had no overheating issues whatsoever so I don't see why the 17" would suffer. 3.5GB VRAM? I wonder can the card actually use all of it. I can see your point, even if you are trying to dumb down the specs of the MBP to help your argument. The price could be adjusted, or the specs improved a bit, but its a huge success so far for Apple and the competition isn't doing too much to threaten this success. The 750GB HDD is 5400RPM which is stupid on the most powerful MBP (stock), the customisation page allows you to opt for a 500GB 7200rpm but you'd want 750GB 7200rpm at no extra cost. The graphics card isn't great no, but macs aren't tailored for gaming. They need to limit how power consuming the parts are to preserve one critical thing that you have overlooked: battery life. Sure, if they cut the prices it would be terrific, a killer deal considering how neat OSX and the build quality is and while the specs aren't cutting edge, they're quite decent. So Media only stretches as far as 3D Studio Max? Quite a few Autodesk products run natively on OSX and recently AutoCAD being a big addition. A Parallels method was recently certified by Autodesk themselves as a reliable way to use their products that aren't available for OSX natively. Funfact, Final Cut Pro is industry standard software for editing. Its no coincidence that the majority of media suites in Universities and Industries are almost exclusively Mac machines.
Another thing that boils my blood is that it is for "Media"
It's bollocks, I've used both a mac and a PC for audio production. (Pro tools) I'll take the PC thanks, Cheaper, Quicker, Can be stuffed into a rack case.
I could reinstall XP when i was 9 (including HDD formatting), therefore any moron should be capable of doing so, given 2 hours of research on net.
This is exactly why people buy Macs. People (where by people I mean non-nerds) don't want to spend 2 hours researching on the internet on how to reformat their PC and reinstall their OS. They want to use their PC as a tool for doing something. Just because something is easy to do, doesn't mean people want to do it. Plugging in a DVD player to a brand new flat screen TV is dead easy, yet people will get the delivery men to do it for them. Apple wants their products to just work and have people not worry about how it works, just that it does. Now of course, not everything is going to work all the time, but that is the effect they strive for. It's why they give out almost no technical details about any of the iOS devices, and even the specs of their Macs are just generic "2.8GHz Core i7" instead of specific model numbers. They want to give the illusion of it just being a reliable work horse that will never need attention. It's also why they always described their products as being magic and wonderful and lovely etc etc etc. [editline]26th August 2011[/editline] That's why an iPhone 4 advert shows people making video calls to their grandkids, and the Galaxy S II advert boasts about Adobe Flash and having a dual core CPU. Apple wants to create an emotional bond between you and your product, and leave the details of the actual product to themselves.
I could reinstall XP when i was 9 (including HDD formatting), therefore any moron should be capable of doing so, given 2 hours of research on net.
You shouldn't have to spend hours researching how to make your new laptop work, it should just work out of the box, or take 10 minutes work to set up. This is what I meant by fuddle around.
I've had my 13" MBP for almost 3 years now, and I've loved it the entire time. It's very easy and pleasant to use (multitouch, anyone?), visually appealing, and really is almost error and headache-free. Bottom line is that I own it and I'm very happy with it and feel it's worth my money. Doesn't that count for anything?

Nobody sells prebuilt PCs without an operating system, unless you request it.

I was interested in one once, even saw a photo of it sitting ontop of a Nighthawk, before I realised how impractical it would be as a laptop. So you are saying, buying a laptop vs a laptop bag, but not both? Surely you'll get the most out of having both? Technology is "obsolete" the day it comes out in a sense, but it will be far from useless for many years to come, regardless if you get a notebook or a stupidly overpowered computer. My Macbook Pro with 2 years Applecare was a good few hundred cheaper than the Asus laptop, so I could afford a very nice laptop bag with the savings. Tehehe.

I'm on an iMac right now, with the 2008 10.5.8 OS X Leopard with 4 GB of Ram and it runs as quickly as new. It doesn't suck at games contrary to belief. I'm guessing people think that because no other Macs in the past have ever been able to play anything more than Chess really. Graphics are very good as expected with these computers, yes it is a lot simpler to use and to find things. For Garry's Mod when I'm installing addons, I can locate the addon folder in about 8 seconds max, vs. a PC laptop I had which you had to go through files and subfiles which looked like they would have no connection to Garry's Mod. Also, yes Macs are the computer of choice for video, music, and graphical editing. It comes standard with the new iMovie which is a huge improvement from the last one, Garageband, and other things I haven't checked out. Most people I know have to buy Sony Vegas or something to do that stuff. Security is also a plus. I had another iMac from 2005 that just "croaked" 4 days ago from a temperature sensor thinking it's overheating. It has never had one virus, spy ware, anything in it after all the porn and shit I've looked up. Never had to install any anti virus or anti spyware programs. People say it's because nobody has a Mac to make viruses for, but I know one person that does coding for Macs and has written viruses for them. Ok now after all this ramble about Macs, I will say that 95% of the users are the biggest faggots on the face of the earth and don't know anything about computers, which some of you have said. I almost hate going into the Mac store for anything because of all the people there that are either fairies, have thick rimmed glasses and skinny pants, or laid back retired seniors who want a computer to search teh interwebs. So yeah sorry I own a Mac and like Macs, but the users and some of the workers at the store... I still like PC's too but Macs seem more convenient and reliable to me, and I love the build quality of them. Runs games fine with Steam, can make some c00l beatZ with Garageband y0, I love making Youtube Poops in iMovie lol, and will always run as fast as day one unless you spend all your time on 4chan or real hardcore porn sites lol.

Dell's failure rate is about the same as Apple's.

Also, I use 27" iMac at school for HTML/Dreamweaver design, the interface is nice, but I prefer my home dual-screen. IMO school was dumb to buy those 6 iMacs instead of 10 more PCs with better specs for 3DS max. (the other PCs at school are brand new from this year)
I use Logic Pro in my Audio Engineering course so it's pretty useful to have something that I can use to take work home with me.
Honestly, I only hate Apple for the ridiculous overpricing of there products and that bullshit "oooh we've got magic fucking world changing technology". No you don't, you've got modern age technology and sell it to folks who don't know two shits about this technology.
