• Why do people hate Apple so?

I don't 100% hate Apple, it's more of their marketing (drawing people in with buzz words such as "revolutionary", "brilliant", "retina display") and the overpricing on items that come from FOXCONN. Sure they're simple to use but someone with a decent knowledge of computers and the attention span to spend time on google can create a hackintosh running OSX. For the common man there are computers that run at decent speeds and cost less, but we're talking about people who don't know how to download a proper Anti-Virus software.
I was generally negative towards Apple, before I tried one of my friends iMac while recording some music. I found that I really liked the idiot-proof OS and hassle-free interface. Now I use my mbp 13' for everything media and not much else(and surfing of course). It's a great working computer. It's kinda funny though. There seems to be almost a witch hunt for mac users, by Windows warriors trying to defend their OS. Especially on this forum. There isn't a day without another thread about videos destroying macs, or people getting angry on patents or Steve Jobs. They also call "all" mac users stupid hipsters that have no computer skills and too much money. I don't know where these stereotypes came from, but it takes me back to those years when ps3-fanboys and xbots would do everything to discredit the others console. God help you if you try to defend what you like, then you are a fanboy.
Yeah, no. I would not call this forum more hateful against Mac than other forums. About the videos destroying Macs, some are, like the one posted in the CIPWTTKT thread a few days ago, made with humour (and an already broken Macbook Pro, mind you), and then there's the rest that is simply wasting money for no reason at all. About the patents, I think most people (also in the Apple section) that they are pretty much bullshit, and made for nothing but patent trolling. They're design patents, for god's sake, and one of the patents even show something as simple as a black slate with a screen. They're generic and dumb, and they should never have been granted, though that doesn't mean that Apple can't use them legally. They fixed with the pictures of the Galaxy tab 10.1 and the SGS, so I feel that Apple should really just back the fuck off.

It seems like everyone and their mother is trying to use the US legal system to grab as much money as possible. I also made a comment about that video you mention, and I got like 19 disagrees and dumbs, just by saying it was a waste of money and that macs have insane re-sale value(the latter is true, since my friend got more money by selling his Mac Pro, than what he paid for it retail). I would like to see what happens if some dude destroys a windows pc. Probably cause a shit-storm like no other, especially if that person was using a mac. It's just such an idiotic thing to fight about. You wont convert people from using macs, just by saying that you think its bad, and having some kind of poster/image with info about pricing and hardware. People who like their macs will stick to them, just like windows people stick to their machines, car owners sticking to their brand, etc.

Let's say you posted a video showing a PC getting completely destroyed: If the point of the video was that it was a PC getting destroyed, yeah, people would probably give a shit. If it was simply because it was funny to smash the shit, no one would give a shit. Vice versa if it was a Mac, probably to a lesser extent, though, as there of course is some 12 years olds thinking it really does matter on this forum. 'Bout dem patents; of course everyone's suing eachother, but Apple is suing over fucking design patents. I never said it wasn't legal, but if you look at some of the patents, it's plainly ridiculous that they were granted. There's other companies suing over ridiculous things, as well, but none as big as Apple. It's not competetive, and it definitely isn't helping the consumer, and thus, of course, people get a bit worked up about Apple.
The original hate for Apple came from trolls (both irl and internet) who acted like elitist snobs because they owned a Mac. They were as gizmodo called them "a fanatic minority". No matter what, the stereotypes of Mac users are often true, it's somewhat funny seeing someone irl follow the stereotypes so well you'd think this was a skit in some comedy show like South Park or Family guy. Also to nerds who love high performance, games, and treasure customizing and upgrading computers, a Mac was useless. Obviously different people have different needs/wants when it comes to computers, but when some tech illiterate moron who spent $999 on a MBP for web browsing acts like they are better than you (and you use your PC for lots of things, it's like the machine that does it all) it's nothing short of infuriating. tl;dr: If people were tolerant of others computer usage, there would be less flame wars. Knowledge would also help, so many people think the entire purpose of computers are for web browsing only, which is insane if you think about it.
By the same token though, a lot of (primarily Windows) users think computers are just for playing games on, and that the only thing that matters is how good a GPU/CPU you can get for your money
how good a GPU/CPU you can get for your money
Uhhh, that's important though, its called not getting ripped off.
I don't hate Apple. But the only thing I like from Apple is the iPod Touch.
By the same token though, a lot of (primarily Windows) users think computers are just for playing games on, and that the only thing that matters is how good a GPU/CPU you can get for your money
No you can't, PC gamers are very rare. Snobby rich kids are everywhere (depends where you live). And since all Snobby rich kids use Macs... [editline]2nd September 2011[/editline] And it's getting to the point where unless you use photoshop, video edit, or something 99.99% of computer users don't do, then all a computer is is a web browser.
By the same token though, a lot of (primarily Windows) users think computers are just for playing games
Heck there allot more people playing games on PC then there are people using their computers for productivity, there is a reason why people say the "age of the personal computer" is over, unless you game or do some media production, you don't even need a computer. So many people use a tablet as their computer.
Uhhh, that's important though, its called not getting ripped off.
I would think the parts could be faster and more powerful, but heat and power restrictions are in effect when they want as small a body and best battery life as possible.
I would think the parts could be faster and more powerful, but heat and power restrictions are in effect when they want as small a body and best battery life as possible.
Well, the heat disipiation issues are already terrible in Apple laptops, so I would have to agree with you.
I've never had mine overheat and cause problems, but when the fans kick in for gaming and I hold my finger on a certain area near the keyboard its very hot.
People have reportedly received severe burns from older generation MacBooks due to a design flaw, and the fact the CPU can reach over 100C. With them trying to make thinner and thinner laptops, with more powerful hardware in them, this issue isn't just going to vanish. Why does the OP post through a proxy. Do they have something to hide?
Oh no, that's only the case if you voluntarily bought one.
I bought one with a education discount and I'm not a pretentious hipster Apple fanboy I don't see why people get so sore about what people decide to buy themselves, as long as they aren't a total moron like "MAC IS BETTER THAN PC UR A FAG", I think people who blindly are Apple fanboys are just as bad as the people who constantly bash Apple. Who cares, anyway? If you don't like them, don't buy their products, I don't see why people are constantly arguing over this.
Because they sue anything that moves.
Who cares, anyway? I dunno men, I just bought Mac for my studio and Logic Pro 9
Here's a logical opinion of apple. Ipods = OSX = Macs = :downs:
lmao calling other people geeks when you are on Facepunch.
I'm not saying I'm not a geek. I called myself a geek earlier. I'd call you Autistic for missing that, but given your posting style I bet you actually are [editline]3rd September 2011[/editline]
While I agree with this, in my experience in both real life and the internet, there is always a Mac guy trying to convince people to never buy a Windows PC ever again.
In my experience, I only see Macs recommended because the user is a (very)satisfied user of them, not due to any blind devotion. If Windows was suddenly 100x better than OS X then I'm sure they'd have no problem switching (Windows does have more software available after all), but they just find OS X/Mac hardware better than any other offering. Mac sales have been growing for something stupid like 5 straight years now quarter-on-quarter, so it stands to reason that some people will be previous Windows users who now prefer something else, and want to recommend it.
OS X is pretty fucking hard to use, I don't know about you but when the slightest thing that goes wrong in the system requires diving into a command line and going through text files that are all in *nix moonspeak I would call that pretty goddamn user unfriendly. When dragging an icon from the dock to the desktop makes it disappear into a void never to be found again, that's not what I call user-friendly. When I'm paying as much as I would for a business class machine, I expect business class components and quality. Laptops should have IPS monitors, be built like a Thinkpad, at least 4 GB of RAM, be spill and drop resistant, easy to service, and not get so fucking hot I can't put it on my lap. I want the ability to have a laptop that can run for 23 REAL hours of solid webbrowsing with a slice battery, and 9 hours on a 9 cell battery under realistic conditions. Apple does none of this, yet charges as much as Lenovo for their Thinkpads, and HP for their Elitebooks. When a smartphone actively requires being synced to a computer just to function "properly" something is fucked up, people buy smartphones with the expectation that they can pretty much never have to connect it to the computer for anything. Why is it that auto-rotate is hidden in the weirdest fucking place that I would never expect it to be, along with the on-screen media controls? Why do I need to go through the multi-tasking menu to shut down programs I'm not using, why not have it do it for me? On the same point, why do I have to shut down each individual application? Why can't the damn thing have a "kill all" button so I don't have to look like a retard hitting the same spot for 10-20 seconds? Why the fuck does this iPhone randomly get SHIT signal reception in the same place I was before, even though when it first started up it was at full bars, and another phone has perfectly fine signal reception? [editline]3rd September 2011[/editline] Also, I don't see an iPad that equals the Eee Transformer in utility. [editline]3rd September 2011[/editline] Fuck, my mom has an iPhone 3GS and it's actually harder for her to use it than Android, iOS never directly tells you what you can and can't do, until you realize that you can't even watch HQ video on youtube when using 3G, and you can't download anything from the App store bigger than 20 megs on 3G.
Fair enough, but insulting the owners is a bit over the line.
