I totally understand that there are computing enthusiasts out there who will buy and prefer Macs for whatever reason. But the kind of people that will actually bother to reformat a laptop are the kind of people interested in the raw performance of something or getting the best out of what they bought. And I wouldn't say that they appear to be the kind of people who would consider Mac computers for the price/ performance. Which is why I don't think bringing up bloatware is a fair comparison when the normal user of a Mac won't reformat, much like the normal user of a Windows PC won't either.
But seriously, fuck bloatware to high hell, Norton is the biggest offender as it takes so long to remove.
But even if they settled with a Windows machine, doesn't mean they won't have considered a Mac. And likewise while I appreciate from a raw power point of view, a Windows machine will be better than a Mac, I would have no problem reformatting a Windows PC that I bought. The issue is (for the moment) I prefer Macs, and they simply do not need a reformat out of the box(other than the speciality Microsoft Store PCs and the like). Comparing bloatware on a Mac and PC is comparable though, since they both contain superfluous software. It's just that PC bloatware tends to be awful, run at startup all the time (thus slowing down the PC's boot time and overall speed) and be useless anyway. At most Mac bloat is only useless, and so doesn't impair the machine as a whole, so a Mac won't need a reformat, but a PC would. If PC bloatware never ran at start up or littered the desktop with shortcuts and docks and other stupid stuff it would be a non issue.
The fanatics piss me off. My econ teacher used a PC as an example for a inferior good and a Mac as an example of a Superior good.
So what about my Water cooled i7 920@4GHz HD5850 6GB DDR3 Asus Xonar Essence Sound 128GB SSD custom build in a Corsair Obsidian 800D with a mechanical keyboard, G9x laser mouse, and HP LP2475 H-IPS panel monitor? Some tin can in their eyes I presume?
If people would just back off and not try to 'convert' you (or belittle a non-Mac PC without knowing what some people can do on it, or why they use it) I wouldn't care or even notice Apple PC's. But all the snobby rich guys and all the narcissistic people all own Macs, and never shut up about them.
tl;dr: Even "objective" news sites have admitted Apple products attract narcissistic people, so that's why people "hate" Apple.
But by showing off your hardware, you are missing the point. Macs are great but the software works so well with the hardware. The interface takes design cues from Apple's current hardware line, as Apple made the trackpads bigger they added more multitouch features, when they removed the CD drive they added a utility to network share other CD drives. Your hardware is great sure (other than your graphics card. Why do you have such a shit graphics card), but it's still running Windows which is a one size fits all OS. It's a good OS sure, but it's simply not going to work like a Mac does.
I've said it before in this thread but I'll say it again. If you judge Macs on pure (computer)hardware then yeah they come of worse against a Windows machine. But a Mac is an end-to-end product. It might not be as fast as your watercooled PC, but it's just not got the fit and finish of a Mac. You see the same strategy play out on iOS. You can have custom, bespoke hardware, running a custom bespoke (i)OS, or you can have the raw hardware of an Android phone and deal with the rough corners of using Android. It's a tradeoff. Some people want their computers to be nice through and through, and Apple is the only company to do this (which is odd considering they've gone from zero to second most valuable company in the world in the space of 15 years. You'd think more people than just HP would get the message).

Maintenance should cost nothing. Repairs? Okay that can be expensive if your components are out of warranty.
Lucky most have lifetime warranties isn't it.

I think you are missing the point that people here are power users and the benefits of Macs aren't there. I am well aware average Joes will see the benefit, but I wish the whole "different strokes for different folks" concept would be crammed into their head. Cause quite frankly they think you are poor or an idiot if you don't use Macs only. That's my gripe, I am well aware that Macs will be problem free and better for most people, but it's their ignorance on what different people use computers for, and all the things that can and can't be done on a a certain OS and setup.

Maintenence as in what? clear the dust out and reapply thermal compound? And repairs are only an issue if hardware is out of warrenty, or you're too dumb to google/fix a problem yourself and take it into pissy werld to be ripped off.
Just thought i'd add a tiny bit of fuel to the fire: For the price apple charges you for 4 gigs of 1333 mhz ddr3 ram, you can get 12 gigs of gskill ddr3 1600 mhz ram :D
i'm pre much just not tryna fuck with anything too complicated and i know all you niggas are about to be like "oh pc too complicated for you? you're a fucking dumbass faggot priss bitch" but like i really just feel like using a mac would be best for me man

Macs are the worst thing to ever happen to computers.
But I do like iPods.
(Yes I'm posting this this from a Mac because it's school given laptop and I'm in the middle of maths right now)

While I don't care for Macs or OSX, that's just a bit silly.

Macs serve a purpose and they are good in their own right. However, I wouldn't say they are better or worse then a PC. They do the same thing, just in two different ways. It's like iOS vs Android because undeniably both OS's are good, but both take different approached to doing smartphones.
So people need to learn to be happy with what they have and stop caring whether their stuff is better then anyone else. If you don't like Apple, then just don't buy their stuff. Honestly, what difference does it make that someone else likes it. lol
(That last part wasn't really directed at you. Just to everyone in general)
MacOSX is actually not that bad. While it's a bit silly (read: very silly) in it's attempt at being different than Windows is does have few good features that I'd LOVE to see on Windows.
Specifically, Exposé and Spaces.

EDIT: I can't say a single positive thing about the hardware though, it looks like crap, it feels like crap and it breaks like cheap Chinese piece of crap.

But an awful lot of tasks can be done on a Mac too (that people don't realise). Your "different strokes" applies just as much to PC fans as much as Mac fans. Indeed that you described your PC, and then derisively called it a "tin can" to a Mac user shows this.
I still find it funny that they advertise on their website that you'll get x4.8 better performance on Call of Duty 4 compared to the last generation.
Fuck, for the same price of a Mac, I can get x4.8 better performance in Call of Duty MW3 compared to the last generation of Mac.
I bought a new laptop recently, I considered buying a macbook until I saw the price, over 1000€!!!
My laptop cost me 500€ and it is way better in every way than a 1000€ macbook.
I just don't understand what is so special on macbooks that's worth paying double...
Anyway I don't hate apple, I love the iPods, I have 2 iPod nano and I'm very happy with them I think they are probably the best music players in the world. But I didn't pay much more for the nano han what I would have payed for another portable music player in the same category.
Basically I think Apple has some cool stuff like the iPod but then some overpriced crap like iPhones and Mac.

yeah fuck all macs they're terrible omg!!!!!!!!!!!!
At this point, people are just repeating themselves. Keep in mind, this isn't my personal belief. This is what I saw:
Against Apple
-Macs are overpriced.
-Most Mac users are idiots
-Tech support sucks
-Can't run games well
-Hardware is known to fail
-Planned obsolescence for certain products
For Apple
-Simple to use
-Has good software
-Lightweight
-Is always improving their products
My opinion
I wouldn't buy a Mac personally.
-The mice and keyboards feel awkward (yes, I know you can get others)
-I'm unfamiliar with the OS so it is more confusing locating data aside from main programs
-The price is too high considering their hardware can be matched for a cheaper price and their software holds no interest to me. (There are alternatives to the software though I don't plan to use them)
-I couldn't care less about being able to fit a laptop in an envelope. An extra 2 pounds isn't going to kill me
-I can spare a minute out of my day to get an anti-virus. Then spare another to not be a dumbass by downloading viruses
-(This is just a bash I feel like throwing in) If I wanted overpriced hardware with a cool design, I'd just get Alienware
-Last of all, I have no problems with Windows. If it was really so frustrating, there are plenty of modified versions that I could download (not that I'm saying you should)
In all honesty, I'd only recommend a Mac to an art major. They would be the most likely to utilize the software.
We done here?

The worst thing to ever happen to computers was to make them so accessible, there now has to be support for the sheer amount of fucking retards who do not understand what the hell they are doing, they break hardware, pass on viral infections, require services to be dumbed down and bring nothing good to the technology. Can we please revert back to Commodore 64 and try again?

I agree, the only reason why this thread kept going was because every time someone answered the OP's questions with those points, people kept trying to justify or explain each point, despite the fact that it doesn't matter if they are valid, it's just the people here don't want them.

With an accelerator board and a bit more fast RAM you can pull off DOOM.

AH HELL YA! I KNOW WHAT I'M DOIN FRIDAY!
All I need is to have a huge hard drive, a zorro based ethernet card and the right TCIP drivers to get it online, it would seriously do me, Amiga OS 4.0 is similar to a modern OS and I could get all of my normal PC tasks done on it, I don't even really play PC games that much anymore.
[editline]7th September 2011[/editline]
And I doubt anyone still writes Viruses for the amiga, nobody at all uses them anymore.

I could be even more hipster than the Mac and Linux users, fuck yeah!
All computers and operating systems suck.
True, they all fail horribly in one way.
Let's make our own OS and dominate the market!
