Macs are great for things relating to art like video editing, image manipulation and music recording. However, 85% of their users don't do more than surf Facebook and play Farmville. Personally, I don't see what a Mac could provide me that a PC couldn't do better. But if you are way into video editing and recording music or are really adept at the things that Macs excel at, then by all means spend the money to purchase one. But if you are a technologically retarded college student whose activities on a computer don't extend beyond typing papers, using iTunes, or surfing the internet, for the love of god, get a $250 netbook and use that $1650 on something you'll actually use.

But a Windows PC has access to a great deal of the same software, so it's just as good.
I don't hate it, I really don't
I just hate the high prices
The only wrong things about Apple products is the price and the religion around them
Can someone give me some evidence and reason for calling a Mac for art majors? I don't understand how the mac is adapted to music editing, and the likes. How can't Windows do the same?

They can, except if you want to use Logic Studio which is for Mac only.
The worst thing to ever happen to computers was to make them so accessible, there now has to be support for the sheer amount of fucking retards who do not understand what the hell they are doing, they break hardware, pass on viral infections, require services to be dumbed down and bring nothing good to the technology. It faceplanted horribly after the art assets were mostly done.

Now, if it were ultra efficient and didn't suck the life out of my laptop battery I would consider it.
I get very similar battery lifetimes on Windows and Linux. Are there any distro's which are really good at power saving?
Overpriced compared to what? Cheap plastic laptops and phones? Aluminium and glass arent cheaper than plastic.
Are there better Android tablets than the Acer Iconia?
After using an Apple product people want one because it's easy and pretty, not because they don't know better, they know what they want.
[editline]26th August 2011[/editline]
Am I the only one who thinks Apple haters just have an automatic bias that says "to be a clever intellect who knows heaps about computers, i must use windows and hate on apple"?
Apple sucks for games but other than that, there is nothing wrong with them and since the rest of the market can't get that right, they can charge what they want for quality.
[editline]26th August 2011[/editline]
I will be using Windows, because Macs are not upgradable and expensive but why does that mean they are shit? I have never heard of a generic consumer who upgrades components in their computer. Its a different market, why can't people accept that?
I have a custom made PC with 8 processors and a gold plated mother board. Guess how much more I would of paid for a mac?
I'm a little iffy on "always improving their products." Some of their releases feel like repackages of the last gen product without enough real improvement to justify the price.
god dammit the post i'm replying to is on the last page

8 processors? I highly doubt that.
Ive made a list of why android is better than IOS
It may have some spelling errors but i went over and checked it and couldnt see any
This isnt so much why people hate apple. But more on why apple isnt the best thing to do with technology
Open Source Operating system (The normal veriosn of android (without mods) can do more than a jailbroken Iphone, When Android is Rooted (The android verison of jailbreaking) You can do allot more than any IOS device. This also means more apps for free. Apps that you pay for on IOS (usually the $1.19 ones) are free on android for the full verion)
More Devices which android is on so you can more variety from cheap smart phones right through to the Top end Smart phones.
Cheaper: Even the Galaxy SII (best android phone out there) is cheaper than the iPhone 4 and has more internal storage.
Normal Sim cards: Android phones take the normal sim cards which you can put in ohter phones, The iPhone 4 takes special Apple sim cards
Carrier: not so much of a problem anymore but android plans are usually cheaper since they dont have to pay 30% to apple. Also it is very easy to unlock an android phone to a different carrier
Screen: Even the low end android phone ($100-$300) have screen sizes about the same size as an iPhone 4. The high end phones have Amoled Screens which are ALLOT better than the retina displays on the iPhone 4s. They give better colours, brighter, use less battery, and have a high resoluion then the Retina display. All Samsung Android phones have Super Amoled+ screen which are even better than Amoled.
Expandable memory: The iphone 4 has 2 choices in Size, 16GB and 32GB. Android phones about $400-$600 have 16-64GB of just internal Storage, if you find a Micro SD card which is big enough you can take it upto 128GBs of total storage
More apps: All the apps on the Apple app store are now on Android, Most of them are free and the full version. There are also about 100,000 more apps for android then there is iPhones
Battery Life: Android had better battery life
Customizability: You can customize andorid to do what you want and look the way that you want. You can put a custom Rom (version) of android onto your phone
The desktop: With android you can put wigets on the Desktop which give you the weather, Time, Phone stats ETC. With IOS you have to open each app seperately. The desktop isnt cluttered, With android your app arnt put all onto the desktop, they are put into an app draw which you open to see all your apps. You can put your most used apps on the desktop.
Notifications: Android has a better notification system, instead of just a popup, the notification is stored in the notification bar until you read it or remove it. You also dont need to go into settings to turn GPS/WiFi/Bluetooth/Aircraft mode ETC. Just pull down the Notification Bar and tap on the icon and it will turn it on or off
The keyboard: The keyboard on android is allot better than on IOS, we also have a thing called swipe which is when you slide your finger over the rough path on the keyboard and it will work out what you are trying to say. The autocorrent is actually good.
Charging time: Android phones charges allot faster (upto 50%) than iphones do
Can be used straight out of the BOX, no need to plug into a program to activate.
All your apps and contacts are synced to google. When you get a new phone you can just log in with your google account and you have copied all your conacts over and you can reinstall all your apps
Multiple Apps Store and free full version apps: You have an app on the google market whihc costs, just google the name of the app with the extension (E.G. Ashpault 5.apk) and you can download the full app for free. There is also multiple market places.
Can be used as a USB device aswell as a phone: Need some storage put you dont have your USB with you? simple. Get a micro USB cable (everyone is bound to have one) plug into the computer, copy the data over. Simple
Browsers: The browsers deafault onto the mobile versions of the website instead of the desktop version, saving you ALLOT of mobile data
Proper Multitasking: You can Multitask allot better on android than you can on iOS, hold down the home button and it will bring up a Window wiht your most recently used APPs
Back button: The back button will take you to the previous screen. Your in your browser, want to change sone press the back button to go to the music player, Hold donw home button then go back to browser.
Menu button: This will bring a popup menu where you can customise select the text, Go to the app settings, ETC
Flash Support: All android phones have flash. This is used to watch youtube videos, most website use flash for various differnt thing. IOS Doenst have flash
Camera: The high end android phone can shoot 1080p Video, and have been able to for a while now. The iPhone 4 was the first iPhone to have 720P Recording
Bluetooth 3.0: This means allot faster bluetooth transfer.
WiFi signal: Andorid phones can support upto 300MB/s wifi, Iphone 4 can only support 54MB/s
Rooting doesnt void warrenty, Jailbreaking does
Google allows all app through: This means that its not the app thast first in, but the app that does the job the best
Android has a bigger market share: This means that more companies will wright produtcs for anndroid instead of IOS since they will get more use.
Open Source Operating system (The normal veriosn of android (without mods) can do more than a jailbroken Iphone, When Android is Rooted (The android verison of jailbreaking) You can do allot more than any IOS device. Large companies don't want their software to be copied/modified. Software from Microsoft and many other companies like Adobe aren't open source, go figure
More Devices which android is on so you can more variety from cheap smart phones right through to the Top end Smart phones.
It's always nice to have a variety of options
Cheaper: Even the Galaxy SII (best android phone out there) is cheaper than the iPhone 4 and has more internal storage.
Apple devices will always be expensive
Normal Sim cards: Android phones take the normal sim cards which you can put in ohter phones, The iPhone 4 takes special Apple sim cards
I don't understand why Apple used micro-sim for the iPhone 4 instead of a normal sim, especially since the micro-sim works exactly the same (You can cut down a normal sim to turn it into a micro-sim)
Carrier: not so much of a problem anymore but android plans are usually cheaper since they dont have to pay 30% to apple. Also it is very easy to unlock an android phone to a different carrier
Apple gon be expensive
Screen: Even the low end android phone ($100-$300) have screen sizes about the same size as an iPhone 4. The high end phones have Amoled Screens which are ALLOT better than the retina displays on the iPhone 4s. They give better colours, brighter, use less battery, and have a high resoluion then the Retina display. All Samsung Android phones have Super Amoled+ screen which are even better than Amoled.
Amoled screens are awesome. The only problem with them is that they are more difficult to see in sunlight
Expandable memory: The iphone 4 has 2 choices in Size, 16GB and 32GB. Android phones about $400-$600 have 16-64GB of just internal Storage, if you find a Micro SD card which is big enough you can take it upto 128GBs of total storage
32GB of space is a lot even for videos (that are at a mobile resolution), but it would be nice to have the option of a microsd
More apps: All the apps on the Apple app store are now on Android, Most of them are free and the full version. There are also about 100,000 more apps for android then there is iPhones
Where did you pull this shit from? iOS still has tons more apps than Android
Battery Life: Android had better battery life
iOS uses much less battery. The average android devices lasts around 8 hours with moderate usage, whereas iPhones usually last more than a day.
Customizability: You can customize andorid to do what you want and look the way that you want. You can put a custom Rom (version) of android onto your phone
iOS is (slowly) becoming more customizable, and can be jailbroken which allows a very large amount of customization
The desktop: With android you can put wigets on the Desktop which give you the weather, Time, Phone stats ETC. With IOS you have to open each app seperately. The desktop isnt cluttered, With android your app arnt put all onto the desktop, they are put into an app draw which you open to see all your apps. You can put your most used apps on the desktop.
iOS 5 now allows a similar kind of thing to widgets, showing stuff like weather and stocks in the notification bar when dragged down (the iOS 5 notification bar is copied from Android). The app draw on Android is just as cluttered and can not have the icons rearranged unless they are put onto the homescreen. And in iOS you can put your most used apps either in the dock bit at the bottom or at the most left in the pages where it's quickly accessible
Notifications: Android has a better notification system, instead of just a popup, the notification is stored in the notification bar until you read it or remove it. You also dont need to go into settings to turn GPS/WiFi/Bluetooth/Aircraft mode ETC. Just pull down the Notification Bar and tap on the icon and it will turn it on or off
iOS 5 has stole the drag-down notification bar from Android, which will now provide a decent notification system for iOS, however it doesn't feature the quick WiFi/GPS buttons (although you can get a quick menu if you're jailbroken)
The keyboard: The keyboard on android is allot better than on IOS, we also have a thing called swipe which is when you slide your finger over the rough path on the keyboard and it will work out what you are trying to say. The autocorrent is actually good.
Swype is pretty awesome and has been proven to be able to type faster than the iPhone keyboard, however the iPhone keyboard is much superior to the default Android one. You can now also get Swype for iOS if jailbroken
Don't really know anything about the charging times. The google sync is pretty cool, I love being able to go to my google mail and be able to copy a phone number that's been uploaded from the phone
Multiple Apps Store and free full version apps: You have an app on the google market whihc costs, just google the name of the app with the extension (E.G. Ashpault 5.apk) and you can download the full app for free. There is also multiple market places.
The idea of the original App Store was to have a place to get reviewed Apps in one place. Having multiple app stores just brings us back to the old days of searching google for different download websites
Can be used as a USB device aswell as a phone: Need some storage put you dont have your USB with you? simple. Get a micro USB cable (everyone is bound to have one) plug into the computer, copy the data over. Simple
I really like this about Android, feels like you have a portable hard drive in your pocket
Browsers: The browsers deafault onto the mobile versions of the website instead of the desktop version, saving you ALLOT of mobile data
Not sure what the statement is here. Both Android and iPhone/iPod Touch browsers default to mobile websites. The default Android browser can be laggy, but the Opera browser for Android is much superior. The iOS browser is nice, but when you scroll too fast, checkerboarding appears.
Proper Multitasking: You can Multitask allot better on android than you can on iOS, hold down the home button and it will bring up a Window wiht your most recently used APPs
iOS multitasking seems to work fine
Back button: The back button will take you to the previous screen. Your in your browser, want to change sone press the back button to go to the music player, Hold donw home button then go back to browser.
The iPhone was designed to be "revolutionary" as it only had 1 main button, so that on-screen buttons could be changed whenever needed.
Menu button: This will bring a popup menu where you can customise select the text, Go to the app settings, ETC
Pretty much the same thing as the back button, there'll be an onscreen button for it
Flash Support: All android phones have flash. This is used to watch youtube videos, most website use flash for various differnt thing. IOS Doenst have flash
HTML5 is the future whichever way you look at it. It's much more optimized than flash, and Apple just want to push it through. Most popular flash games are now on the App store, and most online videos can be watched without flash
Camera: The high end android phone can shoot 1080p Video, and have been able to for a while now. The iPhone 4 was the first iPhone to have 720P Recording
If you really want a high quality camera, you'll want to buy a camera. The output resolution doesn't always define the actual quality.
Bluetooth 3.0: This means allot faster bluetooth transfer.
True, and iOS still doesn't have proper bluetooth transfer without jailbreaking
WiFi signal: Andorid phones can support upto 300MB/s wifi, Iphone 4 can only support 54MB/s
The iPhone's WiFi signal seems sufficient for any WiFi spots I've used
Rooting doesnt void warrenty, Jailbreaking does
Reading up online, it says that rooting does void warrenty. I'm also certain that installing a custom rom voids warrenty. Rooting/installing a custom rom on an Android phone, or jailbreaking an iPhone can both be reversed which stops the warrenty from being voided.
Google allows all app through: This means that its not the app thast first in, but the app that does the job the best
Not all apps, many emulators were taken off the market, along with a few other apps. Google's very open app store often allows badly made apps or apps with viruses.
Android has a bigger market share: This means that more companies will wright produtcs for anndroid instead of IOS since they will get more use.
Generally, large companies want to make apps for iOS as it's harder to pirate. On Android, if you can find the apk (install file, very easy to find on the internet) for the application, you can install it as if you've bought it. On an iPhone, you have to jailbreak, patch a file on the iPhone, and download a jailbroken app to get pirated apps.
My response to each of those statements is bolded. You seem to be very biased towards Android. I've tried to be unbiased. I own an Android device, but I do like Apple devices. Both have their ups and downs to me
My response to each of those statements is bolded. You seem to be very biased towards Android. I've tried to be unbiased. I own an Android device, but I do like Apple devices. Both have their ups and downs to me
Ill post some replies to ur statements
More apps: All the apps on the Apple app store are now on Android, Most of them are free and the full version. There are also about 100,000 more apps for android then there is iPhones
Where did you pull this shit from? iOS still has tons more apps than Android
Since there isnt just one App store ther is allot more apps. i saw somewhere a while backk there is over 200,000 apps avalible for android
Battery Life: Android had better battery life
iOS uses much less battery. The average android devices lasts around 8 hours with moderate usage, whereas iPhones usually last more than a day.
From what ive seen my SGS has allot longer battery life. But it does depend on what you use it for
WiFi signal: Andorid phones can support upto 300MB/s wifi, Iphone 4 can only support 54MB/s
The iPhone's WiFi signal seems sufficient for any WiFi spots I've used
The transfer rate or files across the network (using the wifi sync and allshare on the SGS) is allot faster since the WiFi Can support higher speeds
Yes this is true. I quite like not needing to pay for my Android games :P
I think this depends on the carrier and company. On my SGS i can root it and install custom Roms without voiding my warrenty
Camera: The high end android phone can shoot 1080p Video, and have been able to for a while now. The iPhone 4 was the first iPhone to have 720P Recording
If you really want a high quality camera, you'll want to buy a camera. The output resolution doesn't always define the actual quality.
Well that is also true. But for a phone camera the camera on the Mid to high end phones are usually better.
I have used an iPhone 3/3GS and had an iPhone 4. So ive seen this argument form both sides and i really do prefer android.
My response to each of those statements is bolded. You seem to be very biased towards Android. I've tried to be unbiased. I own an Android device, but I do like Apple devices. Both have their ups and downs to me
I both agree and disagree with you. I'm fairly sure Android has more apps, but anyhow I'm totally sure that iOS don't have "tons more apps". Anyhow, it's becoming redundant with the amount of apps out there, anyway.
I just read a review on engadget where they said that they could just barely get more than 10 hours of battery life. That was a 3d 4g phone, though, and they added that the battery life was pretty bad. I don't know what your average android phone is, then. Other than that, Ireally only have left to say that the argument "Apple will always be expensive" is pretty damn shitty. Otherwise fairly unbiased, in my opinion.
Fuck just let this thread die, all it is is people who cannot tolerate that some people like different systems for a plethora of reasons, and you can't "counter" each reason just because you don't care about it ("I don't care about games, so you people using Windows are dumb" or "Hey a Mac can be powerful, even though you said you must build it for you can choose the parts and save money")
Android may have more apps, but large proportion of them are utter shite - No quality control whatsoever.
Android as a platform needs to get it's act together quick, it feels very "Messy" in places - There's no getting away from the fact that iOS is a very polished user experience, something Apple is all about.
Android may have more apps, but large proportion of them are utter shite - No quality control whatsoever.
Don't download the shitty apps with low scores :downs:
I do agree with the second part of your post.
Android may have more apps, but large proportion of them are utter shite - No quality control whatsoever.

Android doesn't need to get it's act together polish-wise, as it really has the largest market share right now, and it's still growing. Ice Cream Sandwich is due to october-november as well, so take a breather. It lacks some polish here and there, but overall it's pretty nice.
Don't download the shitty apps with low scores :downs:
Who said I did? - That doesn't change the fact the market is flooded with them, or the fact there is no quality control.
I in no way "hate" Android but I am perfectly aware of its shortcomings (I own 2 Android Devices, An Asus Transformer running 3.2 and a HTC Desire HD running 2.3.3)
people are stupid, just that
people are stupid, just that
It's hard to hate something that can't hate you back, but that doesn't mean I can dislike Apple's business methods.
people are stupid, just that
Yes, every mac user is stupid. It's what this whole thread is about. Windows people trying to discredit anyone that has a mac. God forbid someone prefer something else.
Yes, every mac user is stupid. It's what this whole thread is about. Windows people trying to discredit anyone that has a mac. God forbid someone prefer something else.
why would you assume he's trying to insult mac users? he didn't quote anyone and the title of the thread is "why do people hate apple so?". Presumably he was calling people stupid for blindly hating on a company without knowing the facts, on either side.
Yes, every mac user is stupid. It's what this whole thread is about. Windows people trying to discredit anyone that has a mac. God forbid someone prefer something else.
Wow, you're really fucking trying to stir up shit. Didn't you read the sticky? It applies to both sides, and you're rolling it out full fucking force. Most Apple users are very reasonable on here, but you're going around playing a fucking victim or something, get your act together.
[editline]9th September 2011[/editline]
I actually think it applies more to the title, and he would be somewhat right. You've just proven that they aren't lone idiots, though.
