Seemingly nobody understands. The topic name CLEARLY states 'Touched CPU pins, won't boot.' This isn't a topic about how some CPUs don't have pins, this isn't a topic to argue why some CPUs don't have pins. Clearly his fat greasy friend touched the pins, shorting out the CPU. My advice would be to check on the CPU connections, to see if you smell and foreign smell that doesn't belong, or see if there is any black spots on the top or bottom of the CPU. If you don't find anything, carefully clean the pins with some alcohol, let dry, reapply thermal solution, and reseat the CPU.
if it does infact have pins, then take a magnifying glass and check for bent ones, try getting a tweaser and bending them back. If not, get some specialist to come in jjust incase :P
There are no pins on a modern CPU. They look kinda like this:
http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=910789 :colbert:
Did you use standoffs? [editline]12:38PM[/editline]
Omg i did that while disassesmbling my old computer. Needed the cooler for my new cpu since it was oem. So i tried removing it, it was stuck so i forced it out the cpu was stuck to it...
Well I put the cooler down sideways facing away from me then I took a look at the socket and was surprised to see nothing there.
I borrowed a cpu from one of his rich friends. It works fine. But with this one it won't boot. How do I use alcohol to clean it?
Ye because we all know rich people are CPU banks.
whats that got to do with anything in this thread
sorry, too many tabs open hard to decide which thread to post on.
GTX 480 coming out in 5 days! I don't like ATi cards but I like AMD processors so... Just check for bent ones and adjust them very carefully. Working from the CPU right now, good as new.
