I will wait until AMD releases their second Bulldozer CPU before I will make a decision before I will buy IVY.
I will wait until AMD releases their second Bulldozer CPU before I will make a decision before I will buy IVY.
Why?
AMD says that this 2nd-generation FX-series processor, code-named Piledriver, would offer up to 20% to 30% better performance increase under digital media workloads.
So 20%-30% faster if the claims are indeed correct. I'll assume they are despite the growing pile of not so accurate claims from AMD's PR department. Now the estimates for Ivy Bridge
Intel's performance targets (compared to Sandy Bridge): Up to 20% increase in CPU performance. Up to 30% increase in integrated GPU performance.
So 20% increase in performance over Sandy Bridge. Now because these are percentage values they are based upon the original CPU performance values. Increasing Bulldozer performance by 30% will not make it faster than Sandy Bridge performance increased by 20%.
How will the integrated GPU perform compared to a GeForce 8800? [editline]5th January 2012[/editline] Intel is apparently releasing a new LGA 2011 processor too, and it's cheaper than the 3770k. Are there any disadvantages?
I still have an old C2Q Q8200. Shall I wait for Ivy Bridge or buy a i5-2500K?
Can't wait. Still on a Q6600. I'll probably move to the 3570k. Already got my RAM. [editline]5th January 2012[/editline]
Damn 22nm... That's only ~200 silicon atoms wide.
Damn. When they say microchip, they don't lie.
I still have an old C2Q Q8200. Shall I wait for Ivy Bridge or buy a i5-2500K?
Just hold out. It's only a 3 months away
I should really upgrade from this Athlon x2
So excited for the 3770k
Ivy sounds so much more sophisticated than Sandy
less power consumed = less heat = more overclock gigahurtz
Why didn't they just increase the base GHz then?
I was going to jump from a dual-core intel to a i5 2500K, but I'm waiting until these are released!
I want to add text to videos should I get the highest-end IV-E as soon as it's released?
But can these new processors run pong at more than 5 FPS?
Why didn't they just increase the base GHz then?
I'm sure they could have, but Ivy Bridge looks to be more about reduced power consumption and more efficiency. It's not like they need to increase the speeds by a lot to stomp whatever piledriver brings to the table. Though it would be nice to have the slightly higher base clocks so you don't need to void your warranty to get the faster speeds, but it's not that often that a CPU fails anyway.
I want to add text to videos should I get the highest-end IV-E as soon as it's released?
absolutely
I'm still on my q6600 and i find that fast. Ivy would be like ludicrous speed to me.
Wondering if it's worth it to upgrade from a 2500k.
Also, remember this anyone? [editline]5th January 2012[/editline] MY MERGE
Pepper;34067889']Also, remember this anyone? [editline]5th January 2012[/editline] MY MERGE
Lol temps are over 9000 I bet.
I want to add text to videos should I get the highest-end IV-E as soon as it's released?
3960k minimum. Fuck, Get two 8core Xeon SB's for $5000 each.
3960k minimum. Fuck, Get two 8core Xeon SB's for $5000 each.
I think that would be totally worth it to save 5 seconds per week rendering video
Pepper;34067801']I'm still on my q6600 and i find that fast. Ivy would be like ludicrous speed to me.
I wish I had a q6600. They don't stutter near as bad in games as my E7500 does.
If I decide to buy an Ivy, I'm rolling out my Pentium 4 3.00 GHz a week before release, just so I can feel any difference from my i5 2500k.
Still holding strong on my QX6850

Going from a 65nm Q6600 to a 22nm will be mind blowing.
Yup, still got my Q9550 and UD3P. Going to upgrade to Ivy Bridge once it's released. Procrastinated about getting Sandy Bridge, but I chose to wait. Skyrim is supposed to have a massive difference in FPS with faster CPUs. Won't be seeing 15 FPS in Whiterun with my 6950 no more.

It should boost your FPS by a ton, since it deals specifically with slower CPUs.
Skyrim is supposed to have a massive difference in FPS with faster CPUs. Won't be seeing 15 FPS in Whiterun with my 6950 no more.
It does, I still see about 35fps on my 4.5ghz 2600k, but that's with AL mod.
Yeah, I did download TESVAL, didn't make that much of a difference, maybe 3-4 fps at most where my fps was really low in cities and towns. Apparently with a 7970 there's a huge difference between Bulldozer and Sandy Bridge in this game Makes me wonder how much faster Bulldozer is versus a Q9550 when both are oc'ed
Are people really have performance issues in Skyrim that they need mods? I'm interested in seeing a 7970 with an Ivy Bridge vs Sandy Bridge comparison.
Are people really have performance issues in Skyrim that they need mods? I'm interested in seeing a 7970 with an Ivy Bridge vs Sandy Bridge comparison.
Yes, plenty. I had terrible performance in skyrim. I had to overclock to 4.5 and use this TESVAL mod to make it playable in cities.
