Yes, plenty. I had terrible performance in skyrim. I had to overclock to 4.5 and use this TESVAL mod to make it playable in cities.
I was fine at stock clocks, overclocking did give me a huge boost though. 55 in cities before OC, and then 60+ after.
I want to upgrade but I also want to have a shot at fixing my heatsink and overclocking my Q6600.
Is this worth upgrading my Phenom 2 940 and budget mobo when this comes out?
I wish I had a q6600. They don't stutter near as bad in games as my E7500 does.
must be why you're so bad at lol huehuehue [editline]6th January 2012[/editline]
Is this worth upgrading my Phenom 2 940 and budget mobo when this comes out?
yes definitely [editline]6th January 2012[/editline]
Wondering if it's worth it to upgrade from a 2500k.
absolutely not
Wondering if it's worth it to upgrade from a 2500k.
It's only worthwhile to upgrade if you're still using anything beyond the last generation of processors (Core 2 series, Pentium series...etc). The performance difference you get from that really isn't worth the high costs.
3960k minimum. Fuck, Get two 8core Xeon SB's for $5000 each.
They aren't 5000 each, more like 1800 for the top of the line, with a 150w TDP. but have 32 threads is pretty awesome. The $5000 each processors are the Intel Itanium counterparts, Intel Xeon E7's aka on Westmere-EX. 10core+HT up to 8 sockets / system, and over 1TB of ram, now thats crazy.

Will these be the same sockets as last generation / same motherboards? Also what do you guys think: ask for a 3DS for my birthday or some cash to put towards and upgrade from an Q8200 to an ivy (or ask the 3DS and wait for "haswell" next year)
Ivy sounds so much more sophisticated than Sandy
Ivy's a respectable woman, Sandy's a bitch
Same sockets but there are some new native features that the new chipsets will have.
I was just trying to get a price in my head and if they use the same motherboards it's quite a bit easier.
Ugh... I think my i5-750 is bottlenecking my GTX 560Ti but I don't want to wait till April... but I know I should. Urghhhh
It isn't bottlenecking it, atleast for 98% of games.
Run MSI Afterburner then check GPU usage, if it's below ~85% It is probably bottlenecking.
Awesome. Totally not upset that I just got a 2600k. Yup, nope. Not upset at all.
Dude, that is already a powerful enough CPU. Some people are still stuck with Core 2 Duos. [editline]11th January 2012[/editline] Otherwise time to re-evaluate costs for my future build. ... no change :D
This would be the best birthday present if I could afford it.
Still running a C2D E6850 at home. Hopefully the price of the i5 2500K's will go down after IB is released.
Was thinking about upgrading from Phenom X4 955. Gotta start saving money :)
Hmm... Should I upgrade from my i7 920?
Hmm... Should I upgrade from my i7 920?
Yes
do you give terrible advice on purpose?
Hmm... Should I upgrade from my i7 920?
Is your i7 doing things too slow to your liking? if not then why upgrade? [editline]12th January 2012[/editline] I learnt the hard way that needlessly upgrading is a very stupid thing to do.
Have money for build but need to wait till April. ARRRRRRRRRRRG!!!!!!!!!!!!!
do you give terrible advice on purpose?
No?
Coming from a Centrino 2 2.1Ghz I was gonna get a 2500k, might as well wait for this.
I'm upgrading this week from a Q6600 to a i5 2500K. How big is the difference going to be?
gigantic, especially if you didn't overclock expect 50% performance improvements if not more
I'm upgrading this week from a Q6600 to a i5 2500K. How big is the difference going to be?
It's going to be a massive jump. I went from a stock q66 to a 2600k. I felt like the maxxel guy.
Hey, I had that as a desktop wallpaper for a while!
