looks like it only has an integrated gpu, which might be a dealbreaker since i'll be rendering a lot of 3d work. but honestly anything at this point would be a step up from the hd 4000
update, again.
fitted the new keyboard, laptop now boots fine and dandy - except the screen backlight doesnt work. bought a new 1600x900 screen and a cable as it was only a WXGA 1366 shitter anyway.
hopefully we're nearly at the end of this debacle. after the screen, a new battery and probably an SSD, I'll have spent about £120 servicing this back to working order. I've kind of reached the edge of it being worth doing VS just buying a refurbed unit. Oh well, it was fun to fiddle with I guess.
Been thinking of upgrading/sidegrading my i7 3517U / 635M Asus laptop since it's starting to die on me, and I can actually afford stuff coming off my co-op now. Mostly going to be used for my engineering degree and after that, so 90% VS code with some Altium Designer and Solidworks in there as well. Don't really know if I should go with a newer laptop or mod up an T430, since they're at least somewhat common around here.
I think it'll get you through your engineering degree no problem but it might be worth it for you to save up a bit for a newer model with a resolution higher than 1600x900.
So I may be bumping a thread that doesn't get a lot of activity but what do you guys think about this?

I'm considering upgrading from my E6320, mainly because of the screen, for when I go back to uni. My work laptop for the past year has been an X1 Carbon (yeah, I know) and it's been an absolute dream. Even with my limited exposure of setting up laptops for office workers, I think I'm beginning to get this whole ThinkPad thing.
£600 seems a fair price, adding on the SSD upgrade I'll need to do. It's just SSD preinstalled adds another £100 for some reason. And I have yet to find a better price for an L480 than this, assuming I want the IPS screen, which I definitely do.
