My bank doesn't even have 2FA and they try to prevent fraudulent card charges. They're so bad that they flagged a charge I've been paying to Google for the past six months at the same time every day, with my email even in the charge's name. Totally fraudulent, I wouldn't have recognized it one of the hundreds of times I've checked my charges in those past six months, nope.
Up in arms! Arm kills off its anti That didn't take long.

Ha, get fucked ARM.
That's what I tell myself when I'm in the mood.

Ordered another chinese POS EEPROM programmer to save my chink tablet with bios reflash, seeing as resistors fell off the PCB on the first one and the second one kept sending 5 volts back to my computer (thank god for mobos with built in usb surge protectors lol). Third time's a charm, right? If that also fails I'll just borrow an RPi from a friend and use that for flashing
I'll buy one next time they breed?
I like how the ghost page bug from deleted posts is still around but it redirects to page 1 instead of the last page now so it's even more obnoxious when you click a notification and end up in the OP all confused.
Office 365 for businesses still has a limit of 16.
Interesting, Cooler Master is still selling old cooler designs in China apparently. I ordered an electronic load off eBay after seeing talk about them on Reddit and it's got some old cooler design on it. https://i.imgur.com/ANHYwhX.jpg I went digging through their "CPU Air Cooler" section on the website and found nothing, but then I noticed the "Standard cooler" section and checked that out. I think it's a http://www.coolermaster.com/cooling/standard-cooler/DI5-9HDSF-PL-GP/ Also, while I was there, I noticed a new top bar on their website. https://i.imgur.com/RYYjCxA.png The link is a bit.ly link instead of a direct link, because apparently rolling out your own analytics is too hard. It takes you to https://coolermastercorp.com/ which is half-broken because a large part of the shit on the site refers to http:// instead of https://, so they don't load, and also they force you to HTTPS, so you can't just go to http:// yourself to view an unbroken site. It's a Wordpress site and they've got some bbpress forum plugin installed with test posts visible https://www.coolermastercorp.com/bbpress/topic/new-topic-one/ Oh and the main Cooler Master site? Notice how I linked to http:// for the link to the cooler? Also broken on HTTPS. They just don't force you to HTTPS, because it's broken.
(you) need help
Imagine being surprised that people in the technology chat thread enjoy collecting technology
inside joke
is that a rebuild joke? For shame.
Got a Behringer UMC22, had a feeling the mic would sound better with a proper audio interface and an XLR cable, instead of an XLR to 3.5mm. Nah the mic just sucks all on its own. But hey, now I can buy a proper mic, and I already have the audio interface for it. And my headphones sound great through this thing.
okay, good.
Let me know how yours works out. I've got the UMC202 and on Win10 I have to disable and re-enable it in device manager every other day or so because the audio output just stops working for no reason.
I just got delivered 55 laptop batteries. I'm assuming half are unusable, so hoping for 160 cells that I can use. we'll see how close I am.
Will do. Got a mic you're using with it? Looking at my options right now for what to get. The generic cheap-ass BM800 mics don't actually look half bad, but there's some other stuff out there too. Mounting is going to be the biggest problem.
First pack had Panasonic NCR18650. And I have another 39 of those same packs. Hopefully they only have a few bad ones. These are pretty high capacity cells.
What the hell is Office 365's Outlook email encryption anyway? It's not PGP that's for sure.
I hope you're planning on using those cells with individual protection and monitoring. Used unmatched cells in series or parallel are a great way to start a fire. Could probably get away with extracting the cells in the setup they're in the laptop battery and using them like that, since they've been running together. But one of the cells has probably gone bad, since it's in your hands and not still in a laptop. Lot of homebrew powerbank setups I've seen use the cells individually with per-cell monitoring. You put a bunch of old cells in series, the weakest one in the link starts going bad, impedance goes up, cell starts heating up... That's why every decent BMS monitors each cell's voltage in the series.
Make sure all the cells you use have roughly the same capacity. If they don't, once the battery gets low on charge, the batteries that have greater capacity are going to strain to continue delivering enough power. If it's unbalanced enough, you might even explode the battery. Lithium batteries are no joke.
I'm not unaware of the risks. Won't be messing with series to start just 1S. And any cells which have oddly low capacity or high resistance I'll drain and won't be putting into use. And I plan on using individual fuses if any decide to freak out.
You can design powerbank systems to take into account shitty cells though. This chip is fucking neato, I want to use it at some point in my life: http://www.analog.com/media/en/technical-documentation/data-sheets/33001fb.pdf Uses flyback transformers to move charge from cells with a higher charge than others, to other cells, and you can hook them up in series.
Yea starting out will just be using good cells to play with making a big powerbank. But once I get more familiar I want to make a ~3SXP bank that I can run an inverter off of. Again a goal post is using it with a Solar Charge Controller and 1-2 panels to run a device 24/7. Our second fridge is a good candidate. But for now, doing low voltage stuff and testing everything
The slice batteries for the X220 are super expensive so I was thinking at some point of creating a powerbank capable of charging the X220, with the chip I linked. The flybacks could be hard in that form factor though, the guy who linked the part to be originally was looking at using them in the powerbank of an ebike. Like a proper bike, not a bicycle. Not exactly in a hurry to do that right now though, don't need 24+ hours of battery life with my X220. Got something else to do first.
So Comcast offers gigabit in my new apartment, but they literally won't sell it to me without a 2 year agreement. I'm feeling like not even getting it purely on principle with that bullshit.
I use an old AKG Perception 100 but I used to have a Behringer C3 and it worked very well. Couple that with a stand and shock mount and you'll have a great setup for not too much money.
